Ammonium persulfate–dimethyl sulfoxide (APS–DMSO) has been developed as an efficient and new dehydrating reagent for a convenient one-pot process for the synthesis of miscellaneous cyclic imides in high yields starting from readily available primary amines and cyclic anhydrides. A plausible radical mechanism involving DMSO has been proposed. The application of this facile one-pot imide forming process has been demonstrated for a practical synthesis of vernakalant.

One-pot three-component condensation of isatoic anhydride with primary amines or ammonium carbonate and aromatic aldehydes in refluxing ethanol in the presence of catalytic amounts of silica-supported preyssler nanoparticles (SPNP) afforded the corresponding 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones in high yields, and bis-dihydroquinazolinones were synthesized for the first time by a novel pseudo-five-component condensation of isatoic anhydride, a primary amine, and a dialdehyde in water. The catalyst is reusable and can be applied several times without any decrease in product yield.

A simple one-pot four-component synthetic method was reported for the preparation of tetrasubstituted imidazole derivatives from benzil, aromatic aldehydes, primary amines and ammonium acetate in the presence of Preyssler-type heteropoly acid catalyst. This method was proved to be eco-benign, easy work-up, convenient, relatively short reaction times and the products were isolated with high yields.

A number of alkyl, aryl and bifunctional isothiocyanates are obtained in moderate to high yields (41–94%) in a two-step, one-pot reaction of the parent primary amines or their salts with carbon disulfide, followed by reaction of the thus formed dithiocarbamates with T3P® (propane phosphonic acid anhydride) as a new and efficient desulfurating agent.

A one-pot synthesis of indenothiazole derivatives via four-component reactions of ninhydrin, acid chlorides, ammonium thiocyanate and primary amines at 70 °C is described. The method offers several advantages including high yields of products and an easy experimental work-up procedure.

A number of 2-amino-4-aryl-6-substituted pyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile derivatives were synthesized via one-pot multicomponent condensation reactions of different aromatic aldehydes with malononitrile and different primary amines, using different molecular ratios and different reaction conditions to achieve considerable product yields. Moreover, we succeed, for the first time to develop a new method to synthesize the aforementioned under the fusion condition without using solvent and catalysts. With this method, a wide range of novel 2-amino-3,5-dicyano-4-aryl-6-substituted aminopyridine derivatives were synthesized with high yields and board substrate of functional groups. The synthesized pyridine derivatives were found to have a corrosion inhibition efficiency, the rate of which increased with the increasing concentration of the derivatives. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic data and elemental analyses.

Reaction between triphenylphosphine, dimethy acetylenedicarboxylate and amines produces phosphorus ylids which undergo a smooth reaction with ethyl chlorooxoacetate and triethylamine to produce dimethyl N-aryl-(or alkyl)-4-ethoxy-5-oxo-2,5-dihydro-1 H-pyrole-2,3-dicarboxylates in high yields.

An efficient and facile one-pot, three-component protocol for the synthesis of pyrimido[4,5-b]quinoline-4-amines from the condensation of 2-aminoquinoline-3-carbonitrile, N,N-dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal and primary amines under microwave irradiation is reported. This efficient, straightforward procedure led to the desired products in high yields without the need for a catalyst or for a tandem addition–elimination–cyclisation reaction.

Trifluoromethylated piperazines were readily synthesized with excellent regioselectivity in high yields by the sequential reaction of 2-trifluoromethylated N-nosylaziridine (2-CF3-N-Ns-aziridine) with various primary amines, followed by treatment with vinylsulfonium salts, in one pot.
