The Yb3+ and Yb3+/Nd3+ co-doped SiO2-Al2O3-Na2CO3-SrF2-CaF2 oxyfluorosilicate glasses have been prepared by high temperature melt-quenching method. The prepared glasses are excited with 808 nm, and the near infrared emission bands are observed. The intensified emission band was centered at 1030 nm (2F5/2 -> 2F7/2) of Yb3+ ions. Stimulated emission cross-section was evaluated for the prominent 2F5/2 -> 2F7/2 transition of Yb3+ ion by using the Mc-Cumber theory. The energy transfer from Nd3+ to Yb3+ ions in co-doped silicate based oxyfluoride glasses are described under the 514 nm excitation wavelength. Full Text: PDF ReferencesN. Chiodini, A. Paleari, G. Four diads consisting of a free-base or zinc aryl-porphyrin associated with two ruthenium(II) bis(terdentate) complexes (non-cyclometallated Ru ( N 6) or cylometallated Ru ( N 5 C )) have been synthesized. The strong electron-withdrawing properties of the Ru ( N 6) as compared to the Ru ( N 5 C ) complex have been illustrated by their electrochemical and spectroscopic properties. Emission spectra of the diads and the reference compounds have shown that very efficient fluorescence quenching occurs, probably by energy transfer processes from the porphyrin to the 3MLCT excited state of the ruthenium unit.

An efficient enhancement of 2.78 μm emission from the transition of Er3+: 4I11/2 → 4I13/2 by Tm3+ introduction in the Er/Tm: PbF2 crystal was grown by the Bridgman technique for the first time. The spectroscopic properties, energy transfer mechanism, and first-principles calculations of as-grown crystals were investigated in detail. The co-doped Tm3+ ion can offer an appropriate sensitization and deactivation effect for Er3+ ion at the same time in PbF2 crystal under the pump of conventional 800 nm laser diodes (LDs). With the introduction of Tm3+ ion into the Er3+: PbF2 crystal, the Er/Tm: PbF2 crystal exhibited an enhancing 2.78 μm mid-infrared (MIR) emission. Furthermore, the cyclic energy transfer mechanism that contains several energy transfer processes and cross-relaxation processes was proposed, which would well achieve the population inversion between the Er3+: 4I11/2 and Er3+: 4I13/2 levels. First-principles calculations were performed to find that good performance originates from the uniform distribution of Er3+ and Tm3+ ions in PbF2 crystal. This work will provide an avenue to design MIR laser materials with good performance.

The article presents the possible mechanisms of interaction between emission of Eu3+ ions and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) from Ag0 nanoparticles. The antimony-germanate glasses were synthetized by standard melt-quenching method. The influence of high-phonon glass forming compounds on excitation and luminescence spectra was analysed. Also, we showed that Sb2O3 is a mild reducing agent of noble metal ions. This mild reduction property enables thermochemical reduction of Ag+ to Ag0 in a single-step during the melting process. The energy transfer mechanisms between Eu3+ ions and Ag0 nanoparticles were also discussed in terms of local field effect of Ag0 nanoparticles. Full Text: PDF ReferencesS. Chatterjee, S. K.
