The occurrence in the Strait of Sicily of the saddled snake eel, Pisodonophis semicinctus (Osteichthyes: Ophichthidae), a rare finding for the Mediterranean Sea, is confirmed on the basis of one specimen caught off the northern coast of Tunisia in 1991. The specimen, 800 mm in total length and 457 g in body weight (preserved condition), was captured during a commercial bottom trawl hauled at 30 m next to Cape Bon (north of Tunisia). This represents the second and fourth documented record of this Atlantic intruder within the Strait of Sicily and the Mediterranean Sea, respectively.

Kata kunci : Erosi , Indramayu, pasokan sedimen The study area Indramayu, is geographically located at the northern coast of Jawa, which is an open beach that influenced by wave action from the northwest, north and northeast directions. The purpose of this study is to analyze the shift of the shore line based on oceanographic parametric analysis made by surface wind component. An empiric approach to the coastal line change conduct oceanographic parameters shows that erosion and sedimentation have occured along the coastal area of Indramayu and its surounding. The eroded area encompasses the northeastern and northwestern coasts of Indramayu. Its longshore current is follow by sediment (Q) supplies that tend to be deposited in the northwest area. The value of Q in the Z-3 zone is larger than Z-1 and Z-2 zones, as relative amount of sediment supplies tend to move northwest. The coastal area of Delta Cimanuk is estimated to be zone of sediment accumulation along the year, while the erosion process in southeast part of Indramayu spreads and occurs seasonally. Keywords : Erosion, Indramayu, sediment supply

This chapter recounts Oran’s history over the longue durée. It speaks of a city situated on the northern coast of Africa, but also on the southern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Oran was a creation of Spain and southern Europe as well as of Tlemcen, the Sahara, and the African sources of goods that lay beyond it. Indeed, in the first century or two of its existence, Oran owed its existence to its proximity to the Iberian Peninsula. The westernmost section of the Mediterranean, stretching from Cape Tenès in the east to the Straights of Gibraltar in the west, has been described as a medieval “Ibero-African English Channel,” linking North Africa and Spain with a constant flow of commercial ships. Oran’s dependence on larger circuits of western Mediterranean commerce would continue into the nineteenth century.

We report a first record of the alien fishCryptocentrus caeruleopunctatusin the Mediterranean Sea. The fish was found along the northern coast of Israel. This finding increases the number of Red Sea gobies in the Mediterranean to six, and the number of shrimp-gobies to two. A dense colony of this species was observed at depths of 20–30 m in the Rosh Ha'nikra-Achziv Nature Reserve.

The Strait of Messina is located at the centre of the Mediterranean Sea and is considered a biodiversity hotspot and an obligatory seasonal passage for different pelagic species such as sharks, marine mammals, and billfishes. For the first time, in the Strait of Messina, our research group tagged a Mediterranean spearfish (Tetrapturus belone) using a pop-up satellite archival tag (PSAT). The observation of abiotic parameters (depth, light, and temperature) recorded by the PSAT confirmed that the tagged specimen was predated after about nine hours. The tag was then regurgitated 14 days after the tag deployment date. The analysis of collected data seems to indicate that the predator may be an ectothermic shark, most likely the bluntnose sixgill shark (Hexanchus griseus).
