Abstract Oriented thin films of β-(Ga1-xFex)2O3 have been deposited by RF magnetron sputtering on c-Al2O3 and GaN substrates. The itinerant character of Fe 3d states forming the top of the valence band (VB) of Fe substituted of β-Ga2O3 thin films has been determined from resonant photoelectron spectroscopy (RPES). Further, admixture of itinerant and localized character of these Fe 3d sates is obtained for larger binding energies i.e deeper of VB. The bottom of the conduction band (CB) for β-(Ga1-xFex)2O3 is also found to be strongly hybridized states involving Fe 3d and O 2p states as compared to that of Ga 4s in pristine β-Ga2O3. This suggests that β-Ga2O3 transforms from band like system to a charge transfer system with Fe substitution. Furthermore, the bandgap red shits with Fe composition, which has been found to be primarily related to the shift of the CB edge.

We investigate the increase of C-H vibration in benzene rings of pentacene molecule upon doping with indium by the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) characterization technique. The risen of C-H vibration spectral component is employed to demonstrate the charge transfer between In dopant atoms and C atoms in benzene rings of pentacene molecule. This experiment can be used to explain the same mechanism of charge transfer between In dopant atoms and C atoms in In-doped nickel-phthalocyanine(NiPc).

Heterojunction photocatalysts have attracted a significant amount of attention due to their advantages over a single photocatalyst and, particularly, their superior spatial charge separation. Herein, the BiVO4/Bi2S3/SnS2 heterojunction was synthesized via solvothermal synthesis with different ratios of BiVO4 to SnS2. The photodegradation rate of the 0.03 BiVO4/SnS2 sample for rhodamine B removal is 2.3 times or 2.9 times greater than that of a single SnS2 or BiVO4, respectively. The chemical bond between photocatalysts is confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and the synchronized shift observed in binding energies strongly indicates the electron screening effect at the heterojunction. A Z-scheme model is proposed to explain charge transfer pathway in the system, in which the formation of Bi2S3 plays a crucial role in the enhanced photocatalytic performance of the heterojunction.
