An unknown taxon of Stellaria was discovered in Yakushima, a Japanese island known to harbor several endemic species. To determine the identity of this taxon, this study employed MIG-seq for the reconstruction of a finely resolved phylogenetic tree of the newly discovered taxon, along with some related species of Stellaria. The results showed that the newly discovered taxon is a relative of S. alsine. Based on this result, Stellaria alsine subsp. nanasubsp. nov. was published.

AbstractIn this second part of a revision of the genus Loboptera Brunner v. W., the Moroccan species are treated. In addition to the 6 species already known (L. alluaudi Chopard, L. decipiens (Germar), L. irregularis Chopard, L. maroccana Bolívar, L. minor Bolivar, L. truncata Chopard), 5 new species and 1 new subspecies are described (L. cuneilobata, L. cryptofoveata, L. foveolata, L. glandulifera, L. ovolobata, L. minor semicirculolobata). Only one of the species (L. decipiens) has a wide distribution; the other species appear to be endemic to Morocco except for L. ovolobata which also reaches into western Algeria. The endemic species (incl. L. ovolobata) form a well defined group of closely related species (the maroccana group). The characteristics of the maroccana group are described. A key for the identification of the Moroccan species is also given.

Stackhousia tryonii Bailey, which appears to be endemic to the serpentinite soils of the Port Curtis district, central Queensland, is a hyper-accumulator of nickel. Concentrations of this element reach 1-20% of the dry weight of the leaves and 0.1-1% in other parts of the plant. This is the first discovery of such behaviour in a plant from eastern Australia. S. tryonii is easily distinguishable from the Queensland occurrences of a related species, S. monogyna Labill., by its smaller inflorescences and muchbranched, tufted, slender stems and distinctive sparsely tuberculate seed coat. S. monogyna shows no abnormal nickel accumulation. Detailed diagnostic comparative descriptions of S. tryonii and S. monogyna are provided, and notes are given on the ecology and distribution of the two species.

Two new species similar to Cyana dohertyi (Elwes, 1890), C. lada Volynkin, Černý & Saldaitis, sp. nov. (Vietnam and China) and C. titovi Volynkin, Černý & Ivanova, sp. nov. (Vietnam) are described. A new subspecies C. dohertyi mertsana Volynkin & Černý, ssp. nov. is described from North Thailand and North Vietnam. Adults, male and female genitalia of the new and related species are illustrated.

ABSTRACT Taxonomic and floristic studies in the state of Rio de Janeiro allowed the rediscovery of Miconia gigantea, an endemic species to the Atlantic Forest, until recently known only from the type specimen, collected over 100 years by A.F.M. Glaziou. We present an amended and detailed description of M. gigantea, providing characteristics of the flowers, fruits and seeds, in addition to illustrations, comments about taxonomic affinities with closely related species, the presently known distribution together with new occurrence records, and the conservation status.

Tandem repetitive Afa-family sequences of 340 bp are known to occur in wheat and related species of tribe Triticeae. We isolated six and three Afa-family sequences from Leymus racemosus and Psathyrostachys juncea, respectively, both of which are perennial species. The sequences account for 0.5% and 0.2% of L. racemosus and P. juncea genomes, respectively, and using in situ hybridization were located in subtelomeric and interstitial regions of L. racemosus chromosomes. These sequences are clustered with those of Elymus trachycaulus in the phylogenetic tree. Our findings indicate that the Afa-family sequences have been amplified at least twice in the lineage of L. racemosus, P. juncea, and E. trachycaulus.Key words: Triticeae, Leymus, Psathyrostachys, tandem repeat, Afa-family sequences.

A new species of Nemouridae of the genus Indonemoura Baumann 1975, I. furcoloba Li & Yang, sp. nov., is described from both sexes from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of southern China. The relationships with related species are discussed. Additionally, a new subspecies is proposed for a population of I. nigrihamita Li & Yang, 2008 from northern Sichuan Province of southwestern China.

Due to some biological features, species belonging to genus Dorcadion Dalman, 1817 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) can be easily divided into isolated populations. This can be considered as an important factor of speciation process and allows the observation of various effects of biological evolution of taxa. These effects can be measured on morphological characters with some different approaches such as geometric morphometrics. This study aims to determine pronotum and elytra shape differences of the samples of three isolated localities of Turkey (Akyurt, Bala, and Beynam) detected in Ankara, and to contribute to taxonomic and evolutionary knowledge of Dorcadion micans Thomson (1867) by evaluating the analysis of outcomes. As a result, significant differences between populations were detected both in pronotum and elytra. Besides, common variations were observed in some morphological characters of the Bala and Beynam populations, unlike Akyurt population. Accordingly, the distinguishing characters are discussed, and the following new subspecies is described: Dorcadion micans majoripunctum ssp. nov. from Ankara province in Northern part of Central Anatolia.

Centaurea peltieri (C. sect. Melanoloma) is described and illustrated as a new endemic species from the Oriental High Atlas of Morocco. The morphology of involucral bracts is the discriminant feature separating it from other closely related species of the section.

Some species of criocerine beetles have a hyper-elongated part of the intromittent organ called a flagellum. In resting position, the flagellum is stored in a specialized internal sac in the intromittent organ. This specialized state of the flagellum and internal sac is indispensable during copulation for flagellar insertion into the female spermathecal duct for sperm transfer. However, the morphogenesis of the flagellum does not generate the active state of the flagellum; rather, the flagellum is generated in an inactive and completely coiled state. After eclosion, males of Lema coronata evert and withdraw the internal sac multiple times before sexual maturation, without mounting a female. This behaviour serves to uncoil the flagellum and guide it into the active state with the aid of surface structures on the internal sac. A closely related species, Lema dilecta , also has a long flagellum and undergoes the same behaviour to place the flagellum in the active position. However, some other species of criocerine beetles with much shorter flagella can attain the active state without exhibiting this behaviour. Based on a previously proposed phylogenetic tree, we discuss the evolutionary history of the hyper-elongation of the flagellum and associated behaviour.
