The oil and gas sector exerts a major influence on the global economy. However, its negative impact on the environment and society has provoked increasing concerns about its activities and consumption of natural resources. Therefore, and in view of the fact that Latin America has the world's largest conventional oil reserves, the aim of this paper is to analyse the voluntary disclosure of information on the corporate social responsibility (CSR) of oil and gas companies operating in Latin America, and to study the factors that may influence the provision of this information. The results obtained show that although companies in this sector are becoming more aware of the impact of their activity, greater efforts need to be made with respect to CSR. We find that the largest, most profitable oil and gas companies tend to publish the most complete CSR reports.

Abstract The pandemic has significantly worsened the situation of oil and gas companies, causing a decline in demand and prices on the global energy market. In this crisis situation, there is an urgent need to review the organizational activities of companies, within which there is an interest in studying the impact of corporate social responsibility on the sustainability of companies and their environmental safety. Despite a sufficient number of empirical works studying the impact of corporate social responsibility on environmental indicators, there are not enough works in foreign and domestic literature studying this relationship on the example of the oil and gas industry. The purpose of this work is to determine the impact of corporate social responsibility on the environmental sustainability of oil and gas companies. The object of this study is corporate social responsibility, and the subject is the impact of corporate social responsibility on the sustainability of oil and gas companies.

Corporate Social Responsibility is an interesting topic, since various theories are used as a basis for implementing it. Oil and Gas Company is one of the entities that practice Corporate Social Responsibility. The Corporate Social Responsibility implementation in oil and gas companies is oriented to their own interests in achieving the optimal profits. Oil and gas as one of the natural resources included in community ownership cannot be owned absolutely by anyone, including individuals, groups and even countries. The method used was a critical review of the Corporate Social Responsibility implementation in oil and gas companies. The results showed that the Corporate Social Responsibility implementation of oil and gas companies referred to the theory of shareholders oriented to the interests of shareholders. Corporate Social Responsibility implementation was only used to build a company’s reputation, so that the company would get increasing profits. The Corporate Social Responsibility implementation of oil and gas companies which referred to the theory of stakeholders was only oriented towards building public confidence that the company was sincere in carrying out Corporate Social Responsibility projects, but basically its expectations were on the company’s reputation. In addition, the involvement of stakeholders was not given room to make decisions about Corporate Social Responsibility implementation. Corporate Social Responsibility in the perspective of maqasid al-syari’ah must fulfill 4 (four) main components, consisting of maqasid al-syari’ah compliance, formation of a multi-stakeholder body, establishment of a Sharia Board, and fulfillment of sharia compliance. Keywords: Corporate Social Responsibility, Oil and Gas Companies, Maqasid Al-Syari’ah

Abstract The objective of this study was to provide empirical evidence from the perspective of corporate social responsibility practices by multinational oil and gas companies in emerging economies on how investments in and disclosure of this practice could enhance financial sustainability. Accounting-based measures on investments, financial performance, disclosures of activities and panel data set on company size (total assets) over a 10-year period (t) were analysed. Findings show that oil firms with interest in emerging economies take key aspects of corporate social responsibility practices seriously. There was significant positive relationship (p = 0.0035 < 0.05) between investment in the practice and sustainability in financial performance. No significant relationship (p = 0.4409 > 0.05) was established between disclosure and financial performance. Functional corporate social responsibility practices were envisaged to yield sustained dividend in terms of a stronger financial outlook for oil and gas companies for poverty alleviation and to achieve key sustainable development goals and targets in emerging economies.

As it is predicted that there will be a decrease in production at the oil and gas facilities that are currently operating, it becomes necessary to start developing new oil and gas fields. This results in changes to the state’s policy regarding the participation of private companies in the development and implementation of oil and gas offshore exploration and production new projects. Access to unique fields can be provided to the most socially responsible companies. The purpose of this study is to present the author’s methodology for assessing the dynamics of corporate sustainability. The methodology is based on the assessment of individual, well-founded indicators of sustainable development of companies. The proposed methodology takes into account factors in areas such as occupational health and safety, environmental protection and economic efficiency and identifies two performance indicators. The first indicator is an aggregated index for three groups of factors to assess company ratings relative to the performance of the best company. The second indicator is an assessment of the dynamics within the company relative to the previous values of indicators of corporate social responsibility. The research results obtained using the proposed methodology show that oil and gas companies differ significantly in terms of corporate sustainability. The developed methodology for assessing corporate sustainability is of practical importance and can be used by companies in the analysis and planning of operating and investment activities that ensure the achievement of goals of corporate social responsibility.
