This chapter describes a lighthouse heritage experiential education project conducted by Run Run Shaw Library, City University of Hong Kong. The project initiative aims to connect students to archival collections with the aid of digital technology. The research, or “digital forensic investigation,” was conducted on the Xiyu Pagoda Lighthouse, a demolished lighthouse that once existed on Xiyu Island, Penghu, Taiwan. The first stages of research have been framed within a six-step “forensic investigation” model. Proceeding research developed from and beyond the model and focused on resolving the inconsistencies encountered in the initial research. Digital humanities tools were utilized for reconstruction and representation purposes, accumulating evidence through an iterative process between primary and authoritative sources, and first-hand observation. Beyond demonstrating the way in which technology can be employed to enhance historical research, the aim of this chapter is to illustrate how library initiatives can serve to connect students to archival collections.

This article provides an update of a lighthouse heritage experiential education project conducted by the Run Run Shaw Library, City University of Hong Kong. This project initiative aims to encourage students to conduct research by leveraging digital technology and archival collections, and hence connect themselves with the communities. The research team followed the six-step ‘forensic investigation' to continue its mission of 3D restoration of the lost Xiyu Pagoda Lighthouse in Xiyu Island, Penghu, Taiwan. A new line of inquiry regarding the economic behaviour of the pagoda lighthouse was also extended during the course of clarifying the obscured text of the evidence collected. Beyond demonstrating how technology and humanities are intertwined, the aim of this article is to illustrate how librarians may actively disseminate knowledge through connecting students with archival collections.

In this paper we collect and observes the existing digital forensic investigation models, which are essentially the application of information systems and communications engineering for forensic purposes. In addition, a review of the federal criminal situation in Mexico is presented (through the revision of the regulations in the Federal Criminal Code), because the Code indirectly describes the reality of what can be prosecuted and admitted as evidence, criminally speaking, with the application of digital forensic investigation models in Mexico. This is due to the significant deficiency in the proposal of digital forensic investigation models, in which there is not enough emphasis on the potential admissibility of the evidence gathered through the models, to give attention to the need to provide “evidence” to Institutions responsible for the impartation of justice, as if doing digital forensic investigation to be a technological issue and not as it really is: a socio-legal-technological issue. Therefore, considering the criminal reality in Mexico, locating the practices of existing models that make sense in accordance with the norm, an abbreviated model is proposed that really helps successful prosecutions.

This article focuses on digital humanities and Renaissance studies in Canada, highlighting established projects such as Iter and newer efforts such as Serai, and addressing recent interest in historical GIS. This survey of projects demonstrates how the work of Renaissance studies faculty and graduate students in Canada is increasing accessibility to sources, creating new knowledge environments and spaces for collaboration, and encouraging new ways to map and visualize Renaissance data, with an end result that enhances our understanding of the past and the ways that digital technology is changing humanities scholarship. The article also suggests that from the perspective of graduate students, participation in these endeavours provides not only training in digital technologies but also the opportunity to contribute knowledge to the field in concrete ways and the chance to establish a foundation in methodologies and practices that will shape approaches to Renaissance studies research and teaching in the future.

Digital Forensic Investigations is explained as are sponse to an event that has already occurred in relation to information which is highly classified or is of prime importance to a criminal incident. Forensics Challenges in IoT Environments IoT would soon pervade all aspects of our life from managing our home temperature to thinking cars and smart management of the cities. The application of professional engineering principles and methodologies to investigating failures and incidents, usually to determine causation. Normally, it involves preparing a report of findings, which may form the basis for testimony in legal proceedings as an expert witness. A forensic engineer may serve as an engineering consultant to members of the legal profession and as an expert witness in courts of law, arbitration proceedings and administrative adjudication proceedings. Forensic engineering is a part of professional engineering practice that may cover all disciplines of engineering. It is a specialized set of skills that can include multidisciplinary training in failure analysis, simulation, safety, accelerated life testing and statistical analysis, as well as knowledge of the specific engineering field.
