Many business schools are attempting to integrate their curricula with enterprise software, particularly enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. Although the introduction of ERP into the undergraduate academic curriculum offers students a potentially deeper under-standing of business processes, it cannot by itself provide for students a connection between the adoption of robust information systems and a paradigm shift in the way that business organizations operate in a global, information-centric environment. Connecting a new global economy with enterprise systems requires a course much broader than ERP that places enterprise systems in a much larger information-communication technology (ICT) context. This chapter presents a teaching model that provides that context, emphasizing the critical role of systems components and relationships, the central function of information in problem solving, and business perspectives of information from infrastructure to applications.

Information management has assumed an increasing importance at business organizations, over the last decades. Such trends lead companies to promote enormous efforts on organizing and optimizing their business processes, acquiring expensive enterprise information systems, aiming to promote an accurate answer to market uncertainty. Unfortunately, traditional software implementations have revealed low levels of satisfaction by Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems’ customers. This study aims to evaluate the reasons for success and failure of ERP systems implemented in Portugal and the methodologies taken by consulting teams. To achieve such a goal, it has been submitted a web survey to Portuguese companies and consulting teams, in order to confirm major errors, ERP systems’ coverage and quality’s response for business processes, and assessment of engineering requirements as a major concern. This study is concluded with the presentation of the web survey results and some conclusions about ERP systems’ implementation at Portugal.

The rigorous corporate governance frameworks in Company Law and Securities and Exchange Board of India regulations, have not prevented incidents of fraud in listed companies in India. The top management should therefore play a critical role, by fostering desirable organisational culture, clarifying clear boundaries of organisational behaviour and also enunciating value statements and requisite policies in the company. Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) (see https://www.bemlindia.in/ ) which is in a tough and competitive business environment, has codified its values statement ‘BEML FIRST’ (Focus on Customer, Innovation & Technology, Reliability & Quality, Speed & Responsiveness and Trust & Teamwork). Taking support of its committed workforce and leveraging technology, the company has set high standards in corporate governance, and has zero tolerance to unethical behaviour. BEML has a well-established Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), an online file management system and a committee of functional directors which plays a major role in taking critical decisions, bringing in transparency in business processes and decision-making in the company.

Abstract In the techno world of today, with the rapid advancement of new economic construction, a diversity of information expertise is emerging. Through implementing the advanced cloud computing business model, enterprises have resolved the problems with the shortage of capital, workforce, and technology, which are vital in e-commerce operations to handle the conflict with the e-commerce undertakings of enterprises and the scarcity of resources. Cloud computing can play a critical role in increasing business processes through e-commerce applications, leading to higher financial value for enterprises. Hence, in this paper, Cloud Computing assisted Enterprise Resource Planning (CCAERP) has been proposed to base on an e-commerce application for enterprise management. Currently, most internal e-commerce systems and ERP systems are relatively autonomous. Nevertheless, a single method of operating proved capable of satisfying the requirements of business growth with growing fierce market competition. Effective enterprise resource planning and e-commerce convergence have been one of the subjects of business growth in the new era. This paper first analyzes the relationship between Enterprise Resource Planning and e-commerce and then examines and explores the incorporation requirements and feasibility of the enterprise.

An ERP (enterprise resource planning) is an information system that makes it possible to manage and monitor on a daily basis all the information and operational services of a company. It is able to effectively reduce the cost of products, improve customer service experience, and increase business competitiveness. However, the implementation rate of the ERP system is much lower than originally planned, and many companies have not achieved the intended objectives. This situation is due to many factors (high implementation costs, technical complexity, lack of well-trained employees, lack of incentive mechanisms, etc.), but the key element is the separation of relations between the ERP system and enterprise strategy, organizational structure, and business processes. The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of IT governance in achieving ERP performance with a focus on the implementation phase.

In today’s competitive market environment coupled with post effect of globalization, managing supply chains is critical to any business. Rather than becoming function-oriented, firms are now selectively deploying valuable resources on automated processes operated through technology-enabled ‘information communication’ platforms to improve performance. However, there are visible gaps in integrating business processes with information-enabled domain like enterprise resource planning (ERP), which has the potential to bring in the radical improvement in firm’s performance. Again, integration always does not come with positive results, specifically to Indian capital goods sector. Under this consideration, an attempt has been made to explore this unknown domain with conceptualization of a hypothesized model. Data for validation of this study were collected through questionnaire from 25 different units under Indian capital goods industry and relationship proposed in the hypothesized framework is tested by using structural equation modelling. Analysis of result indicates a favourable disposition of the model framework wherein synergy between business processes and ERP, on an integrated mode, can fetch higher level of performance. Considering multiple performance-related issues deterring growth of India’s capital goods industry, it is strongly recommended to synergize business processes under information system domain in order to make business sustainable.

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia has been able to contribute to the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of 55.56% based on national data Planning Bureau of the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs of the Republic of Indonesia, in 2008. To expand market share and improve the competitiveness of SMEs, SMEs need an application that can integrate and automate business processes of SMEs. ERP applications can be one solution for SMEs because of the advantages that can be provided such as providing information with fast response time, increase the interaction between the departments of an organization, improving the management of ordering goods cycle, etc. Some of the critical issues faced by SMEs are the limited funds and information technology capabilities they have. In understanding the needs of the services required by SMEs for ERP applications and to provide guidance for SMEs and response to the lack of research about ERP in Indonesia, this research aims to describe the long-term plan maps of the ERP's research agenda that will be made for SMEs in Indonesia.
