Development and Testing of an E-Commerce Web Site Evaluation Model

The scope of this research is to develop and test a model for evaluating B2C e-commerce Web sites. Consequently, this study seeks to investigate the relationship between the Web site interface of B2C e-commerce and virtual customer behavior, concentrating on purchasing attitude and intention. The objective of this article is, therefore, to research which features of a virtual store effectively influence the user purchasing process via the Internet. In order to achieve this aim, the technology acceptance model was adapted for pertinent theoretical references about consumer behavior on the Web. The model developed was then tested and validated through a structural equation modeling approach. An empirical analysis of the CD e-retailing industry in Brazil was then conducted. The study concludes that, for the electronic commerce of CDs, ease of use, trust, pleasure, and attractiveness as perceived by visitors to CD e-retailing Web sites are key issues for understanding customer attitude and purchasing intention.

With the rapid advancements in the internet technology, many retailers are embracing internet of things technology to enhance customer experience and improve efficiency. Specifically, many customer-facing IoT technologies such as augmented reality, smart shopping carts, smart displays, and RFID tags are expected to change the way customers experience retailing shopping. Drawing on the technology acceptance model, trust perspective, task-technology fit, and organizational reputation perspective, this study examines the customer adoption of IoT applications in retail setting. Responses collected from 289 actual retail shoppers were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results reveal that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, task-technology fit, retailer reputation, and initial trust are significant predictors of customer attitude and intentions to use IoT in retail stores. The study findings have key implications for academicians and retailers in improving customer acceptance and in delivering superior customer experience.

Purpose This paper aims to analyse the effect of technology acceptance variables on customer attitude and customer engagement behaviours (CEB) with social tourism websites (STWs). Design/methodology/approach An empirical study was carried out with 346 customers. A model was developed to analyse the relationships between CEB and their determinants. Partial least squares – structural equation modelling was used to test the model. Findings Customers’ perceptions of enjoyment, ease of use, usefulness and trustworthiness positively influence their attitude towards STWs and their subsequent engagement behaviours [purchases, word of mouth (WOM) and referrals]. Originality/value This study develops and empirically tests a model that analyses the impact of technology acceptance model variables on CEB, both transactional (customer purchases) and non-transactional (customer WOM, referrals and feedback), in the context of STWs.

Many companies now actively use the Web as a key marketing and sales vehicle for their goods or services. To be successful, e-commerce Web sites must be useful, easy to use, easy to navigate, and easy to understand - measures of the Technology Acceptance Model’s (TAM) variables Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Ease of Use. Although many studies have used the model to better understand e-commerce, the problem is that they have ignored one very important external variable - the effects that an aging population may have on the usability the Internet and of e-commerce Web sites. As people age, they begin to experience problems with their vision, their hearing, cognitive functions, and their mobility. It was posited that the TAM and its variables of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness, influenced by the product and services offered by the Web site, the usability of the Web site, and the senior’s ability to use the Internet, determine a senior’s attitude toward and behavioral intention to use e-commerce Web sites. It was found that the research model accurately reflects the effects of the aging process and that the perceived usefulness of e-commerce Web sites positively and significantly influenced a senior’s attitude toward using and intention to use the Web sites. It was also found that a Web site’s usability positively and significantly influenced the perceived ease of use of e-commerce Web sites.

This presentation describes Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) when using individual protective measures (IPMs) against the spreading of viruses like COVID-19. The constructs in TAM are perceived usefulness, and ease of use, attitude towards the use of IPMs and the actual use as well as social influence, which were measured with relevant indicator variables. The statistical method used in the analysis was Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). IPMs include personal protective measures for everyday use (e.g., voluntary home isolation, respiratory etiquette, and hand hygiene); Personal protective measures for influenza pandemics (e.g., voluntary home quarantine, and use of face masks in community settings); and Environmental measures (e.g., routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces). The results indicate that all relationships were significant also so that the effect sizes were large to medium with the exception of social influence -> perceived usefulness and social influence -> attitude towards usage.

Purpose – This paper aims to report the findings of an empirical research focusing on Hong Kong online users’ intention to book online tourism products with latest figures. Focusing on the technology acceptance model (TAM), this case study extends the recent research with providing insight regarding the online users’ perceptions of TAM dimensions and how these dimensions are perceived among different demographic groups and Internet usage characteristics with latest figures in Hong Kong, a major tourism destination in Asia with many world-class hotels. Design/methodology/approach – A total of 213 Hong Kong online users were surveyed in March and April 2013 in Hong Kong business districts. Findings – Findings reveal that most respondents who use the Internet for booking online travel products are young, and people above a certain age are not likely to favor booking tourism products online. They are more likely to stick to traditional personal service. Perceived usefulness of the Internet is found more influential than its ease of use in forming a usage intention, and ease of use is perceived more important by jobseekers, student and employees than the other profession groups. In addition, respondents who use the Internet every day and did purchase online tourism product perceived usefulness more important than ease of use. Research limitations/implications – The generalization of this research is limited by its sample size and number of questions. Originality/value – The study gives a new perspective by linking TAM with intention to book online in Hong Kong. The paper would be of interest to the Web site planners or online tourism practitioners to consider Web site usefulness as much as its ease of its use, as both usefulness and ease of use of tourism Web sites are strong predictors of intention to book online.

Abstract. The long-term objective of this research is to enrich the development of science, especially the development of SMEs related to the adoption of information technology with studies using the Technology Acceptance Model. The specific aim of the research is to examine what factors are inhibiting the adoption of e commerce technology in SMEs in Banyumas Regency, as well as examining whether e-commerce adoption has an impact on increasing the demand for product quantities in SMEs. Collecting data in this study was carried out by distributing questionnaires through direct interviews with SMEs in Banyumas District who were respondents. The sampling technique in this study using random sampling technique. Whereas for data analysis using Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) version 22.0 and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with AMOS program. The results of the study show that the Technology Acceptance Model theory is able to explain the institutions of SMEs actors to use e-commerce technology. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menyebarkan kuesioner melalui antar langsung kepada pelaku UMKM di Kabupaten Banyumas yang menjadi responden.  Teknik pengambilan sampel dalam penelitian ini dengan menggunakan teknik random sampling. Sedangkan untuk analisis data mengunakan Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) versi 22.0 dan Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) dengan program AMOS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa teori Technology Acceptance Model  mampu menjelaskan instensi para pelaku UMKM untuk menggunakan teknologi e-commerce.  Hasil penelitian juga berhasil menerima 3 (tiga) hipotesis yaitu Perceived usefulnes  berpengaruh terhadap use behavior, Perceived ease of use berpengaruh terhadap use behavior, use behavior  berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan permintaan kuantitas produk.  Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan implementasi e-commerce tidak berpengaruh terhadap persepsi manfaat (perceived usefulness), Implementasi e-commerce tidak berpengaruh terhadap persepsi kemudahan pengoperasian sistem  (perceived ease of use) atau dengan kata lain menolak 2 (dua) hipotesis lainnya.Keywords. Smart home services (SHSs) afford users an effective lifestyle management system, which provides human-oriented networking of smart devices and applications that enable users to control their homes from anywhere at any time. Despite the benefits of SHSs, however, their acceptance is very low. There remains a gap in the literature in terms of a comprehensive model that addresses users’ intention to use SHSs. To address this gap, the present study explored the factors that influence SHS acceptance among users based on well-established theoretical frameworks, such as the technology acceptance model, innovation diffusion theory, and the theory of planned behavior. To this end, the study integrated four additional factors, namely, perceived convenience, perceived connectedness, perceived cost, and perceived privacy risk, into the exploration and carried out structural equation modeling to quantitatively determine the effects of these factors. Questionnaires were administered to 750 users. The findings indicated that perceived compatibility, perceived convenience, perceived connectedness, perceived cost, perceived behavioral control with perceived usefulness, and perceived ease of use directly and indirectly exerted a significant influence on users’ intention to use SHSs.

The use of multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA) methodology is not uncommon in organizational decisions. However, information systems (IS) researchers have focused on statistical hypothesis testing in examining organizational technology adoption decisions. In this study, an MCDA methodology is adopted in examining the effects of the technology acceptance model (TAM) constructs on organizational software acquisition decision. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) provides an evaluation model based on the experiential knowledge of domain experts. The results of the study show that software performance plays a significant role in the software acquisition decision matrix, while vendor characteristic is given the least priority. The study also points to the fact that perceived usefulness is more vital than perceived ease of use in software evaluation and acquisition.
