The purpose of this chapter is to present an overview of current research on sustainable procurement identifying practices and case studies in supply chain that have been said to improve its performance from a global perspective. As an introduction, this chapter describes the importance of sustainability in supply chain, driving the discussion into the procurement process. Theoretical perspectives used in sustainable supply chain literature are presented, focusing on procurement management and the three dimensions of sustainability. The chapter discusses current procurement practices as a source of competitive advantage. It also highlights techniques, tools, and methodologies from research case studies, and presents sustainable procurement practices as a driver of performance improvement. Finally, this chapter provides further research directions and confirms sustainable procurement as a key process to performance enhancement in supply chain management, and as a source for global business improvement and competitive advantage achievement.

Supply chain is the process of continuous flow of products or services from source to the destination. Supply chain management has become an effective tool now a day to survive in this competitive world. Organizations do their best to harvest profits by adopting better supply chain management practices for competitive advantage and organizational performance. In this paper an attempt has been made to understand the relationship among supply chain practices, competitive advantage, and organizational performance using structural equation modelling. This research conceptualizes and develops five secondary dimensions of supply chain practices (Use of technology, SC speed, Customer satisfaction, SC integration, and Inventory management). The research also identifies four primary competitive advantage components (Inventory management, Customer satisfaction, Profitability, and Customer base identification) and six primary organizational performance components (Financial Performance, Market performance, SC competencies, Customer satisfaction, Stakeholder satisfaction, and Innovation and learning). The data for analysis was collected from top 10 non-livestock organized retail players operating in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, New Delhi and, Gurgaon in India. The relationships in the proposed framework were tested using structural equation modelling. The results indicate that Indian retailers know that competitive advantage has high impact on SCP but they have less understanding in matching SCP and competitive advantage with organizational performance.

AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to provide a theory-based explanation for the generation of competitive advantage from Analytics and to examine this explanation with evidence from confirmatory case studies. A theoretical argumentation for achieving sustainable competitive advantage from knowledge unfolding in the knowledge-based view forms the foundation for this explanation. Literature about the process of Analytics initiatives, surrounding factors, and conditions, and benefits from Analytics are mapped onto the knowledge-based view to derive propositions. Eight confirmatory case studies of organizations mature in Analytics were collected, focused on Logistics and Supply Chain Management. A theoretical framework explaining the creation of competitive advantage from Analytics is derived and presented with an extensive description and rationale. This highlights various aspects outside of the analytical methods contributing to impactful and successful Analytics initiatives. Thereby, the relevance of a problem focus and iterative solving of the problem, especially with incorporation of user feedback, is justified and compared to other approaches. Regarding expertise, the advantage of cross-functional teams over data scientist centric initiatives is discussed, as well as modes and reasons of incorporating external expertise. Regarding the deployment of Analytics solutions, the importance of consumability, users assuming responsibility of incorporating solutions into their processes, and an innovation promoting culture (as opposed to a data-driven culture) are described and rationalized. Further, this study presents a practical manifestation of the knowledge-based view.

Competitive competition and the advent of the global marketplace becomes its own challenges, these challenges are associated with getting products and services are timely and low cost. Resolution to face both these things one of which with the application of Supply Chain Management (SCM). SCM is very effective for use in addressing the supply chain and securing competitive advantage and improve organizational performance not only within the Organization but the Organization among the supply chain. SCM will be used to provide the information the State of the stocks of raw materials and will be enabled as a reminder (reminder) and the order of the raw materials to the supplier by using Massage Passing or SMS Gateway. Model SCM is expected to control the inventory of goods, either over stock or stocks that are already able to save stock with time quickly and efficiently.

In this study, we examined the impact of supply chain management practices (SCMP): strategic supplier partnership, customer relationship, level of information shared, and information quality on competitive advantage and organizational performance in the Nigerian manufacturing sector. In so doing, this study was set out to find out if these practices generate conditions that promote higher or lesser competitive advantage and organizational performance. The survey research design was adopted because the characteristics of the respondents were fully captured in other to make important decisions. A total number of 122 were found usable out of 146 copies of questionnaire circulated. The structural equation modelling (SEM) was the estimation technique employed to measure the relationships among the various variables/constructs using AMOS 22.0. It was found out that the four predictors (strategic supplier partnership, customer relationship, level of information shared, information quality) of SCMP had significant impact on organizational performance. The study also revealed that of the four independent variables, three (strategic supplier partnership, customer relationship, and level of information shared) had significant impact on competitive advantage, while information quality had no significant impact on competitive advantage. In response to our research questions, we concluded that the four constructs or predictors generate conditions that promote higher competitive advantage and organizational performance in the Nigerian manufacturing sector. The study recommended that manufacturing organizations should share quality, timely and accurate information to ensure their product offerings can be altered to meet customers while offering competitive prices. The study further recommended that organizations should assist its suppliers to improve product quality; regularly relate with clients to set dependability, receptiveness, and other standards; notify trading partners early when changing needs arises; and have fast product development.
