The aim of the chapter is to develop an approach for improving quality management in flexographic printing on packages using cognitive agent. A hybrid agents' architecture based on the learning intelligent distribution agent architecture (LIDA) and hierarchical temporal memory has been developed. Such approach has not been developed before; therefore, it is the main contribution of this chapter. The first part of the chapter presents the introduction to the research problem and background. Next, research methodology and the LIDA cognitive agents have been described. The main part of chapter presents the cognitive agent's architecture and functionality related to quality management in flexographic printing. The last part presents discussion, future works, and major conclusions.

PurposeThis paper aims to propose a framework on complaint management system for quality management by applying the text mining method and potential failure identification that can support organization learning (OL). Customer complaints in the form of email text is the input of the framework, while the most frequent complaints are visualized using a Pareto diagram. The company can learn from this Pareto diagram and take action to improve their process.Design/methodology/approachThe first main part of the framework is creating a defect database from potential failure identification, which is the initial part of the failure mode and effect analysis technique. The second main part is the text mining of customer email complaints. The last part of the framework is matching the result of text mining with the defect database and presenting in the form of a Pareto diagram. After the framework is proposed, a case study is conducted to illustrate the applicability of the proposed method.FindingsBy using the defect database, the framework can interpret the customer email complaints into the list of most defect complained by customer using a Pareto diagram. The results of the Pareto diagram, based on the results of text mining of consumer complaints via email, can be used by a company to learn from complaint and to analyze the potential failure mode. This analysis helps company to take anticipatory action for avoiding potential failure mode happening in the future.Originality/valueThe framework on complaint management system for quality management by applying the text mining method and potential failure identification is proposed for the first time in this paper.

Abstract: Research methodology is a method to consistently resolve the research problem. Research methodology may be termed as knowledge of science for studying how research is done empirically and theoretically. In this paper we have studied different steps that are usually taken by a researcher in studying his research problem of civil engineering along with the logic behind them. It is utmost important for the researcher to have the knowledge of the research techniques/method along with its methodology. Researchers also need to understand the presumptions underlying various techniques and they need to know the criteria by which they can decide that certain techniques and procedures will be applicable to certain problems and others will not. All this means that it is necessary for the researcher to design his methodology for his problem as the same may differ from problem to problem. Research methodologies are the need of hour due to modernization in research field of civil engineering. Nowadays only innovative research methods are adopted in branch of civil engineering like geotechnical engineering, geoenvironmental engineering, structural engineering, geo-mechanics etc so that best results are obtained from these methodologies. In this paper we are going to discuss role of some of the research methodologies used for research purposes in geotechnical engineering for respective research problems. Keywords: Research methodology, geotechnical engineering, pushover analysis, FLAC method, numerical method,

The presented story, which the reader and the reader will find in the text (when I am silent), comes from interviews collected during my research in the Netherlands in 2013. The research problem I chose at that time – the issue of the identity of Tamils from Sri Lanka in the Netherlands – I decided to investigate using a modified version of the biographical method, which is increasingly used in sociological research. Such a model of analysis is common today also in studies on migration processes, and especially in studies on the problem of refugee. Using this method, in the analytical part, I present the refugee life cycle based on the schema of the rituals of passage by Arnold van Gennep. Therefore, I use a model drawn from anthropological research, namely the pattern of individuals going through certain stages in their development and in the process of social functioning. After the first part, where I outline the research methodology and the main theoretical assumptions, I provide a first-person narrative of one of the people who left Sri Lanka, and her life was inextricably intertwined with the local nearly 30-year civil war.
