A novel algorithm is presented to acquire accurate human contour. For current algorithms extracting contour with multi-pixels width, it is difficulty in obtaining accurate distance between centroid and any point on human contour for gait recognition. For connective human contour, we use candidate regions and vectors to calculate and compare the angles of adjoining vectors, so that we get point set of human contour and describe human contour of single-pixel width. For disjoint contour, image pre-processing is implemented to fuse disjoint silhouettes with their centroids. Subsequently, we go on performing the algorithm of complete contour to get accurate contour. This algorithm solves the problem that any point on human contour locates accurately. It takes the advantages in image processing of human silhouette, particularly in accurate extraction of human contour for gait or posture recognition.

In this paper, we will introduce a novel low-cost, small size, portable nail printer. The usage of this system is to print any desired pattern on a finger nail in just a few minutes. The detailed pre-processing procedures will be described in this paper. These include image processing to find the correct printing zone, and color management to match the patterns’ color. In each phase, a novel algorithm will be introduced to refine the result. The paper will state the mathematical principles behind each phase, and show the experimental results, which illustrate the algorithms’ capabilities to handle the task.

In this paper, we present a novel algorithm for uneven illumination image processing based on HIS color space and joint color space. Compared with many existing algorithms of image enhancement for the uneven illumination image, the proposed method have high performance compared with Histogram Equalization, Homomorphic filtering and Retinex. Some experiments are implemented to testify this conclusion.

The paper deals with the theory of qth-order fractal dimensions and its application to texture analysis. In particular, the state-of-the-art regarding the fractal dimension estimation for characterizing textures is presented. After, the insufficiency of the single fractal dimension is proven and the qth order fractal dimensions are introduced to overcome such drawback. The multifractality spectrum function D(q) is described, a novel algorithm for estimating such dimensions is then proposed, and its use in digital-image processing is addressed. Results on real SAR image textures are reported and discussed.

In this article a method for reconstructing atmospheric cloud surfaces using a stereo camera system is presented. The proposed camera system utilizes fish-eye lenses in a flexible wide baseline camera setup. The entire workflow from the camera calibration to the creation of the 3D point set is discussed, but the focus is mainly on cloud segmentation and on the image processing steps of stereo reconstruction. Speed requirements, geometric limitations, and possible extensions of the presented method are also covered. After evaluating the proposed method on artificial cloud images, this paper concludes with results and discussion of possible applications for such systems.
