Automatic focusing is one of the key technology of robot vision and digital video-systems, while play an important role in determining the quality of image. The performance of focusing depends on whether the evaluation function has unbiasedness, unimodality and noise resistance. This paper proposes a new evaluation function algorithm by improving image clarity-evaluation function of the traditional neighborhood difference operator. Compared with the existing algorithm, the results of experiments demonstrated the new algorithm has a good sensitivity, timeliness, good anti-noise ability and stability during the automatic focusing process.

This paper presents a methodology to find the optimum build orientation in the additive manufacturing of topologically optimized structural parts. The outlined methodology is based on applying a differential operator to the density distribution matrix of a topologically optimized design. The methodology is developed for 2D parts, where the profile of the geometry is constant. The 2D spatial difference operator effectively calculates the elemental density gradient vector, ultimately used to calculate the angles between i) overhanging surfaces of a topology optimized design, and ii) the build platform of a 3D printer. These angles, referred to as build angles, are used to estimate the relative amount of supporting structure required to print the design at a prescribed part orientation. This methodology can potentially be adopted to simulate the additive manufacturing surface quality of density based, structural topology optimization designs.

Reconfigurable manufacturing system is essential for sustainable change, rapid response ability important characteristics, research, development and application of manufacturing system. The main architecture and major characteristics of reconfigurable manufacturing systems is explored. Normally, the quality of RMS can be evaluated by several factors. Firstly, the gross cost of production and reconstruction should be less. Secondly, The time of design and manufacture (ascent time) should be shorter. Thirdly, the utilization ratio of existed resource should reach to the utmost. Finally, the cargo stream planning in common space should keep in optimal condition. At last, The author give an example to shown the RMS, the hydraulic integrated package for a gearshift device in automobile, are mentioned to compare and analyze.

The DVB Project is a European-based standards forum that for close to 15 years has been developing specifications for digital video broadcasting, many now implemented worldwide. Its IPR policy has several novel elements. These include “negative disclosure,” the obligation of each member to license IPRs essential to DVB specifications unless it gives notice of the unavailability of the IPR. This approach contrasts with the more common rule (e.g., within ANSI accredited bodies) calling for IPR disclosure and confirmation of availability on FR&ND terms. Other notable features of the IPR policy of DVB are arbitration and fostering of patent pooling. This article provides a commentary on the DVB’s IPR policy and on its application. It also describes the work of the DVB in resolving IPR “gateway” issues when the perceived dominance of technology contributors, notably through control over IPRs, risked, in the view of some members, distorting new digital markets. In two cases, DVB has created a licensing mechanism to dispel these concerns. In addition to the quality of its technical work, DVB’s success lies in its novel IPR policy and its ability to achieve consensus to resolve gateway issues.

Background: This study examined the feasibility, burden and acceptability of a legacy-making intervention in adults with cancer and preliminary effects on patient quality-of-life (QOL) measures. Method: We conducted a Stage IB pilot, intervention study. The intervention was a digital video legacy-making interview of adults with advanced cancer to create a digital video of their memories and experiences. Baseline and post-video QOL assessments included: Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy—General (FACT-G), Patient Dignity Inventory (PDI), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and Emotional Thermometers for distress, anxiety, anger, help and depression. Participants received a final copy of the digital video for distribution to their families. Results: Adults (n = 16) ages 38-83 years old with an advanced or life-limiting cancer diagnosis completed an intervention. Feasibility and acceptability was strong with 0% attrition. While the pilot study was not powered for quantitative significance, there were changes from baseline to post-intervention in the participants’ total or subscale FACT-G scores, PDI, HADS anxiety or depression scores, and Emotional Thermometer scores. Conclusions: A digital video legacy-making intervention is feasible for adults with cancer without significant negative outcomes for individuals completing the study. It remains unclear whether this intervention contributes to positive quality of life outcomes.

Accurate and efficient image-clarity evaluation function which adopts digital image processing technology is the key to achieving automatic focusing. The different evaluation functions are adopted for different images. By converting color images to grayscale, and comparing them with the green component which extract from the color images, it is found that using the gray image can get a much better results and an evaluation function is built which is used for tool images. Experiments prove that the used algorithm has a good single peak, accuracy, stability, and fast speed.
