Fingerprint image preprocessing technology has been widely used with the development of intelligent identity recognition system, which studies fingerprint image restoration, enhancement and thinning based on digital image processing technology. This paper presents system design and realization of preprocessing technology for fingerprint image. Fingerprint image has restoration processing by adopting image filed calculation, image background segmentation, image equalization, image convergence and image smoothing algorithm in order at first. Then Gabor wavelet algorithm is used to enhance the contrast of fingerprint image. Image thinning algorithm is carried out to extract the skeleton of fingerprint image at last. Test result shows that the method presented has good accuracy, quick speed and strong robustness for realtime application.

Due to the uniqueness and invariability of fingerprints, and the feasibility and practicability of the fingerprint identification technology, fingerprint identification has become the most popular, the most convenient, one of the most reliable personal identity authentication technology. Although on this technology has a variety of molding products, but because many of the core technology by commercial interests and confidentiality need without open, as well as the development of the society put forward higher requirements on the performance of the system, so in this field of research, still has important theoretical significance and practical value.

Biometrics usage is growing daily and fingerprint-based recognition system is among the most effective and popular methods of personality identification. The conventional fingerprint sensor functions on total internal reflectance (TIR), which is a method that captures the external features of the finger that is presented to it. Hence, this opens it up to spoof attacks. Liveness detection is an anti-spoofing approach that has the potentials to identify physiological features in fingerprints. It has been demonstrated that spoof fingerprint made of gelatin, gummy and play-doh can easily deceive sensor. Therefore, the security of such sensor is not guaranteed. Here, we established a secure and robust fake-spoof fingerprint identification algorithm using Circular Gabor Wavelet for texture segmentation of the captured images. The samples were exposed to feature extraction processing using circular Gabor wavelet algorithm developed for texture segmentations. The result was evaluated using FAR which measures if a user presented is accepted under a false claimed identity. The FAR result was 0.03125 with an accuracy of 99.968% which showed distinct difference between live and spoof fingerprint.

Fingerprint recognition systems are widely used in the field of biometrics. Many existing fingerprint sensors acquire fingerprint images as the user's fingerprint is contacted on a solid flat sensor. Because of this contact, input images from the same finger can be quite different and there are latent fingerprint issues that can lead to forgery and hygienic problems. For these reasons, a touchless fingerprint recognition system has been investigated, in which a fingerprint image can be captured without contact. While this system can solve the problems which arise through contact of the user's finger, other challenges emerge.

Based on analyzing and experimenting a large number of the existing fingerprint image preprocessing algorithm, this paper presents a novel high-quality fingerprint image preprocessing algorithm. Taking full account of the inherent characteristics of the fingerprint image, the algorithm arranges overall features and local detail. The experiments show that it is a simple, efficient algorithm which can improve the quality of the fingerprint image, and lay a good foundation for the subsequent processing.

Fingerprint segmentation is an important problem in fingerprint image preprocessing. This paper describes a new approach to the segmentation of fingerprint images based on fractal dimension. First, the Sobel operator is used to calculate the gradient of fingerprint image, and then we employ the concept of fractal dimension to further analyze the image produced by the first step. By estimating the fractal dimension of the foreground and the background of the fingerprint, and combining grayscale as features, finally accomplish the segmentation of fingerprint. The experimental results show that the proposed method performs well in fingerprint segmenting and is better than the existing method.

Fingerprint identification technology is one of the biometric identification technologies that match and recognize the collected fingerprint image to determine the identity of the person. Fingerprint identification technology compared to other biometric identifications is more unique, practical and workable. Therefore, the fingerprint identification as the most popular, most convenient and most reliable authentication method, it has been widely used in many aspects of social life. This paper introduced the whole structure of the fingerprint identification system and the function of every part in fingerprint identification system, mainly introduced the part of fingerprint image pre-processing and implemented one of the algorithms for fingerprint image preprocessing with MATLAB. The result of the experiment shows that the algorithm for fingerprint image preprocessing that used in the paper meets the fingerprint image preprocessing requirements and it provides a basis for fingerprint characteristics extracting and fingerprint characteristics matching.

Fingerprint image feature extraction is a critical step to fingerprint recognition system, which studies topological structure, mathematical model and extraction algorithm of fingerprint feature. This paper presents system design and realization of feature extraction algorithm for fingerprint image. On the basis of fingerprint skeleton image, feature points including ending points, bifurcation points and singular points are extracted at first. Then false feature points are detected and eliminated by the violent changes of ambient orientation field. True feature points are marked at last. Test result shows that the method presented has good accuracy, quick speed and strong robustness for realtime application.
