This work present the study of the sintering of polycrystalline diamond compact with hyperbolic truncated cone profile using hexagonal boron nitride assembly, rather than salt mold, which is different from conventional assembly and this kind of polycrystalline diamond compact is widely used in percussion rock bits and roller cone rock bits. The well-sintered polycrystalline diamond compact without transition layer is prepared on a WC-10wt% Co substrate at temperature 1450°C for 3 min at non-hydrostatic high pressure of 5.5Gpa.Different analyzing techniques, such as X- ray diffraction, micro-Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy were applied to characterize the micro-structure, residual stress and sintering behavior. The SEM analysis indicates that diamond-diamond (D-D) direct bonding had formed in the polycrystalline diamond layer. The Raman spectroscopy shows compressive stress in the polycrystalline diamond layer is much higher than that sintered using traditional assembly.

CaB2O4 was added into hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) to improve the sintering behaviors of hBN. CaB2O4 and hBN were mixed and then pressed into plates. The plates were sintered at 2000°C for 5h under a N2 ambience. The phase compositions with different CaB2O4 contents were examined with X-ray diffraction analysis. The fracture cross-sections of the hBN plates were investigated by SEM. The apparent density and Rockwell hardness were also measured. The results show that the hBN particles had a plate-like shape and the grain sizes of hBN increased with increasing CaB2O4 contents. The apparent density and Rockwell hardness decreased with increasing CaB2O4 contents. When the CaB2O4 content was 15(wt) %, the hBN has the average grain sizes of 3μm in diameter and 200nm in thickness, the apparent density of 1.06 g/cm3 and the Rockwell hardness of 3, respectively.

In this study, we examined the influence of microstructured charcoal (MC) when added to ammonium nitrate fuel oil (ANFO) samples. We performed a study that investigated ANFOs structure, crystallinity, and morphology by utilizing infrared spectroscopy (IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. MC characteristics were probed by Raman spectroscopy and SEM analysis. SEM analysis indicated how fuel oil (FO) covered ammonium nitrate prill. Moreover, the surface of the MC was covered by specific microfibers and microtubes. The disordered graphitic structure of the MC was also confirmed by Raman spectroscopy. Simulation of blasting properties revealed that the addition of MC should decrease blasting parameters like heat explosion, detonation pressure, and detonation temperature. However, the obtained differences are negligible in comparison with the regular ANFO. All analyses indicated that MC was a good candidate as an additive to ANFO.

Abstract Polytypes of colourless and coloured single crystals of silicon carbide (SiC) grown on SiC substrates by chemical vapour deposition are studied using Raman spectroscopy supplemented by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses. The SEM analysis of the defect stacking faults, inclusions of defects and their distribution has shown that they correlate with the peak positions of the obtained Raman spectra and with the XRD data on the crystal structure

A series of ceramics samples belonging to theCeO2-Bi2O3phase system have been prepared via a coprecipitation route. The crystallized phases were obtained by heating the solid precursors at600∘Cfor 6 hours, then quenching the samples. X-ray diffraction analyses show that forx<0.20a solid solutionCe1−xBixO2−x/2with fluorine structure is formed. For x ranging between 0.25 and 0.7, a tetragonalβ′phase coexisting with the FCC solid solution is observed. For x ranging between 0.8 and 0.9, a new tetragonalβphase appears. Theβ′phase is postulated to be a superstructure of theβphase. Finally, close tox=1, the classical monoclinicα Bi2O3structure is observed. Raman spectroscopy confirms the existence of the phase changes as x varies between 0 and 1.
