Cure Characteristics and Ageing Resistance of Recovered Waste Pre-Vulcanized Nitrile/Epoxidized Natural Rubber Latex Blends in Nitrile Butadiene Rubber Compounds

Waste pre-vulcanized nitrile latex (WPNL), obtained from nitrile glove dipping tank was blended at different ratios with concentrated ENR latex processed via ultrafiltration and designated as ENRLC-SP20 and ENRLC-SP50, respectively, with the number indicating, the percentage of WPNL incorporated into the blend. The blends were prepared in the latex stage and subsequently processed into dry rubber. The rubbers were then blended with virgin nitrile rubber (NBR) at various ratios and the curing characteristics and physical properties of the blends were evaluated. The results showed the maximum torque (MH) decreases while the minimum torque (ML) increases with increasing level of SP 50 rubber. Using higher concentrations of SP-50, the results showed slight reductions in the cure (t90) and scorch time (ts2), respectively. It was also found that by increasing ratio of ENRLC-SP20 and ENRLC-SP50 improves the heat ageing resistance of NBR blends at 100°C as evidenced by the higher percentages in retention of the blends, compared to the control compound.

Curing characteristics and swelling behavior of natural rubber/styrene butadiene rubber/recycled nitrile glove (NR/SBR/rNBRg) blends were investigated. Eleven composition ratio; 50/50/0, 50/40/10, 50/30/20, 50/20/30, 50/10/40, 50/0/50, 40/50/10, 30/50/20, 20/50/30, 10/50/40, and 0/50/50 of SMRL/SBR/rNBRg with the size of rNBRg ; 2.5 3.0 cm2 were prepared by using two roll mill at room temperature. Cure characteristics such as scorch time,t2, cure time,t90, minimum torque, ML, maximum torque, MH, and swelling behavior of SMRL/SBR/rNBRg ternary blends were examined. Results indicated that the scorch time and maximum torque of the NR/SBR/rNBRg blends decreased with increasing rNBRg content. The minimum torque of the blends increased as rNBRg content increased. The cure time of NR/SBR/rNBRg blends show a unique trend, which are depending on the domain rubber content. The increment in rNBRg content decreased the crosslink density of NR/SBR/rNBRg blends.

Effects of different particle sizes of recycled nitrile glove (rNBRg) on curing characteristics and physical properties of natural rubber/styrene butadiene rubber/recycled nitrile glove (NR/SBR/rNBRg) blends were studied. The particle sizes of rNBRg were differentiated by the method of producing. S1 was obtained by cutting the rNBRg (whole glove) into smaller sheet; S2 was obtained by passing rNBRg through 2 rolls mill for 10 times; S3 was obtained by passing rNBRg through 2 rolls mill for 10 times and then mechanically grinded. NR/SBR/rNBRg blends were prepared at 50/30/20 composition using two roll mill at room temperature, with different particle sizes, rNBRg (S1), rNBRg (S2) and rNBRg (S3). Scorch time, cure time, minimum torque, maximum torque, crosslink density and hardness of the blends were examined. Results indicated that scorch time, cure time and minimum torque decreased as the rNBRg particle size decreased, while maximum torque and crosslink density increased. The rigidity of NR/SBR/rNBRg blends increased when smaller rNBRg particles were used, which explained the increased in hardness and decreased in resilience of the blends.

The potential of activated carbon as a filler in rubber compound has been reviewed .Cure characteristics and physical properties ofImperataCylindricaactivated carbon filled natural rubber of Standard Malaysian Rubber (SMR L) were studied. SMR L was used as the elastomer and the composition of filler loading were varied from 0-50 parts per hundred rubber (phr). A semi-efficient vulcanization system was used throughout the study. The cure characteristics of the rubber compound was determined by using rheometer. The samples of hardness and resilience were measured by durometer shore A and Wallace Dunlop Tripsometer. Cure characteristics showed that cure time, t90and scorch time,t2increased as increased filler loading which indicate poor interaction between rubber and filler which slow down the vulcanization time. Minimum torque,MLand maximum torque,MHincreased as increased filler loading due to the low processability of the SMR L compounds. Crosslink density and hardness exhibit increment as increased filler loading due to increase rigidity of the SMR L compounds. The resilience will decrease correspondingly as increased in rigidity of the compounds.

This research studied about the effect of concentrations sulfuric acid (H2SO4) on the hydrolysis process of corn cobs waste to manufacture of cellulose nanocrystal (NCC) which will be applied as fillers in natural rubber latex. This study began with a pre-vulcanization process of natural rubber latex at a temperature of 70 oC and followed by a vulcanization process at 110 oC for 10 minutes. The results of the testing of physical properties indicate that the higher amount of NCC loading will result in higher crosslinked denotes, while the results of testing the mechanical properties indicate that the maximum value is achieved at the loading of NCCs as much as 6 phr. The mechanical test results supported by the analysis of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) showing the NCC have spread well. Characterization of the Transform Electron Microscope (TEM) shown  the resulting of NCC was spherical shape with the size of NCC produced for each concentration of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) 45%, 55%, and 65% respectively 57.65 nm; 28.43 nm; and 82.61 nm with an amount of each 0.849 g; 1,824 g; and 0.681 g. The mechanical and physical properties of the optimum natural rubber latex products occurred in the loading of nanocrystal cellulose with a number of 6 bsk, where the values ​​of cross-connect density, tensile strength, elongation at break, M200 and M300 were respectively 10.6234 2Mc-1x10- 5; 18.2 MPa; 780%; 2.23 MPa and 2.7 MPa.

The study of chitosan loading onto epoxidized natural rubber compounds were prepared by incorporation of chitosan into epoxidised natural rubber matrix using a two-roll mill. The effects of chitosan loading on the curing characteristics, tensile properties and morphology of the compounds were investigated. Results indicated that slight changes in curing time (t90), and scorch time (tS2) of the compounds with the incorporation of chitosan. An increment is observed in the maximum torque, tensile modulus and durometer hardness of the compounds while tensile strength and elongation at break declines with chitosan loading.
