In this paper, the poplar LVL was reinforced with monolayer fiberglass mesh. The reinforcing effect of lay angle between the weft of fiberglass mesh and the veneer grain was studied. And three different nondestructive testing (NDT) methods, such as the longitudinal transmission method, longitudinal vibration method and flexural vibration method (out-plane and in-plane), were used to test the dynamic Young’s modulus of the reinforced poplar LVL. The correlativity was investigated between the dynamic Young’s modulus and the static MOE of the reinforced poplar LVL. The reinforcing effect was best when the lay angle of fiberglass mesh was 30°. And the flexural vibration method and longitudinal vibration method had better accuracy to estimate the static MOE.

In this paper, the poplar LVL was reinforced with multilayer fiberglass mesh. The reinforcing effect of adding position of fiberglass mesh on improving the static MOE was studied. And three different nondestructive testing (NDT) methods, such as the longitudinal transmission method, longitudinal vibration method and flexural vibration method (out-plane and in-plane), were used to test the dynamic properties of the reinforced poplar LVL. The correlation analysis was implemented between the dynamic Young’s modulus and the static MOE of the reinforced poplar LVL. It can be concluded that the three NDT methods are useful for predicting the MOE of reinforced LVL, but the flexural and longitudinal vibration methods had better accuracy to estimate the MOE.

In this paper the vibration testing and Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) analysis detection on the basis of nondestructive testing method were analyzed. The dynamic Young’s modulus of the regeneration pre-sensitized offset plate were obtained by using the nondestructive testing methods, including the dynamic Young’s modulus by longitudinal vibration method, the dynamic Young’s modulus by out-plane flexural vibration method, and the dynamic Young’s modulus by in-plane flexural vibration method. The linear correlativity was investigated between the dynamic Young’s modulus and the modulus of elasticity(MOE) for the regeneration pre-sensitized offset plate. The linear correlations between the dynamic Young’s modulus and the MOE were good. So it is feasible to predict and analyze the plate mechanical properties put forward the nondestructive testing method of key mechanical performance parameters.

In this paper, the poplar LVL was reinforced with monolayer fiberglass mesh. The reinforcing effect of monolayer fiberglass mesh on improving the static bending strength (or modulus of rupture, MOR) was studied. And three different nondestructive testing (NDT) methods, such as the longitudinal transmission method, longitudinal vibration method and flexural vibration method (out-plane and in-plane), were used to test the dynamic Young’s modulus of the reinforced poplar LVL. The linear relationships were investigated between the four dynamic Young’s moduli and the MOR of the reinforced poplar LVL. It can be concluded that the three NDT methods are useful for predicting the MOR of reinforced LVL, but the flexural and longitudinal vibration methods had better accuracy to estimate the MOR.

Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) panels made from pine (Pinus sylvestris L. Var. mongolica Litven.) veneers were tested for mechanical properties and prediction models in this study. Three different nondestructive testing (NDT) methods and the static bending test were conducted on the LVL. The NDT methods included the longitudinal vibration method, longitudinal transmission method and flexural vibration method. The effects of veneer thickness on the dynamic Young’s modulus and the modulus of elasticity (MOE) of pine LVL with vertical load were investigated. There were four variety thickness veneers including 2.2 mm, 2.6 mm, 3.0 mm and 3.4 mm. The results showed that the dynamic Young’s modulus and MOE of LVL diminished with the increase of veneer thickness, there was a strong linearity correlation between each dynamic Young’s modulus and the static MOE, and the prediction models of mechanical properties can be used to predict MOE of pine LVL.

In this paper, four different nondestructive testing (NDT) methods and the static bending test were conducted on the pine (Pinus sylvestris L. Var. mongolica Litven.) laminated veneer lumber (LVL). The NDT methods included the longitudinal transmission method, longitudinal vibration method, in-plane and out-plane flexural vibration method. The effects of the compression ratio on the Young’s modulus and bending strength (MOR) of LVL were investigated. There were four compression ratios for different ply numbers of LVL, 8.1% for eight-ply samples, 18.3% for nine-ply samples, 26.5% for ten-ply samples, 33.1% for eleven-ply samples, respectively. The microscopic structure of the LVL was analyzed with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results showed that the microstructure of LVL changed greatly between different compression ratios. And the dynamic Young’s modulus and static bending (MOE) and bending strength (MOR) were greatly increased when the compression ratio increased form 18.3% to 26.5%.

This work reports the results of Young’s modulus of elasticity obtained for 3 types of engineered stones. Using parallelepiped specimens with dimensions 150  30  20 mm3, Young’s modulus is determined by different methods: static and dynamic. Via quasi-static deformation tests: - uniaxial tension, - uniaxial compression, and, - pure bending (i.e. symmetrical four-point bending), determination of Young’s modulus was carried out by means of the conventional electric-resistance extensometry with strain-gauge strips glued to the specimens. The results obtained from these quasi-static deformation tests are compared with the results of dynamic Young’s modulus obtained with RFDA equipment (Resonant Frequency & Damping Analyser) using the parallelepiped specimens in a flexural vibration mode. Dynamic Young’s modulus was also evaluated through measurements of ultrasonic pulses velocity. Composition and microstructures of the materials under investigation are also presented and discussed.

In order to set up a new effective method for measuring mechanical properties of the wood-plastics structural plates with stiffener, three different nondestructive testing (NDT) methods were used on the specimens with stiffener, which were made of virgin high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with poplar fibers as filler. The values of dynamic Young’s modulus of the specimens were measured by a FFT system. And the values of static bending modulus of elasticity (MOE) were also determined by three point bending test according to ASTM D790-03. The paper analyzed the variability of the dynamic Young’s modulus of specimens with stiffener obtained with different NDT methods, and the correlativity was also estimated between the dynamic Young’s modulus and the static MOE of all specimens. The results suggested that the intensity of the wood-plastics structural plates could be enhanced by stiffener, and the NDT methods could be appropriate to estimate the dynamic Young’s modulus of the wood-plastics structural plates with stiffener.
