ZnO nanorods doped with Ce4+ ions have been synthesized by a solvothermal method. The concentration level of Ce4+ additive was varied systematically from 1 to 10 mol. %. The structural and optical properties of Ce4+ -doped nanostructures are investigated using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron micrograph, UV-visible absorption and photoluminescence Spectroscopy. The results showed that the concentration increase of Ce4+ doping induce the enhancement of photoluminescence.

Fe-doped TiO2nanotubes (Fe-TNTs) have been prepared by ultrasonic-assisted hydrothermal method. The structure and composition of the as-prepared TiO2nanotubes were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy. Their photocatalytic activities were evaluated by the degradation of MO under visible light. The UV-visible absorption spectra of the Fe-TNT showed a red shift and an enhancement of the absorption in the visible region compared to the pure TNT. The Fe-TNTs were provided with good photocatalytic activities and photostability and under visible light irradiation, and the optimum molar ratio of Ti : Fe was found to be 100 : 1 in our experiments.

Novel mace-like (wolf-teeth clubs) CdS nanostructures were successfully prepared on a large scale using CdCl2•2.5H2O and NH2CSNH2 as starting materials through a convenient mixed-solvothermal route. The as-synthesized products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV-visible absorption spectroscopy. The experimental results reveal that the morphology of CdS products was greatly affected by the volume ratio of anhydrous ethanol and distilled water. The possible mechanism for the formation of mace-like CdS nanostructures is simply discussed.

Core/shell structured TiO2/ZnO was synthesized in a basic aqueous solution through a simple hydrolyzing method. The powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy of the initial TiO2/ZnO powder showed diffraction peaks corresponding to the ZnO and TiO2 phase. The structure and thickness of ZnO shell (about 2.5 nm) coated TiO2 surface as thin layers or nanoclusters, depends upon the reactant concentration and the reaction time. The characteristics of the optical absorption were described by UV-visible absorption spectroscopy.

This paper investigates the photocatalytic characteristics of Ag nanowire (AgNW)/TiO2 and AgNW/TiO2/graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites. Samples were synthesized by the direct coating of TiO2 particles on the surface of silver nanowires. As-prepared AgNW/TiO2 and AgNW/TiO2/GO nanocomposites were characterized by electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, UV/visible absorption spectroscopy, and infrared spectroscopy. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) images confirmed the successful deposition of TiO2 nanoparticles on the surface of AgNWs. The photocatalytic activity of synthesized nanocomposites was evaluated using Rhodamine B (RhB) in an aqueous solution as the model organic dye. Results showed that synthesized AgNW/TiO2/GO nanocomposite has superior photocatalytic activities when it comes to the decomposition of RhB.

Zns: Mn / ZnO inverted shell quantum dots have been synthesized using a wet chemical process. The study used Mn of 4 percent weight. Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) images show a 50 nm order for the quantum dot size. Confirmation of the ZnO capped ZnSMn was done by TEM and X ray diffraction (XRD).The test band distance is measured using the UV Visible absorption characteristics. Measurement of the dielectric constant is done using the LCR meter

In this work, we have investigated the influence of rapid thermal annealing (RTA) on structural and optical properties of ZnO nanorods synthesized by a mechanochemical reaction route using a planetary ball mill for different reaction time durations. Optical properties of as-grown and RTA-annealed samples are studied by UV–visible absorption and photoluminescence (PL), while structural studies are performed using X-ray diffraction line profile analysis and transmission electron microscopy. X-ray diffraction pattern of each sample is accompanied by characteristic wurtzite peaks of zinc oxide and exhibits the decrease in full width half maxima of the peaks after RTA. Williamson–Hall plot of each pattern is done to correlate the effect of strain of as-synthesized and RTA-treated samples. UV–visible absorption spectra show distinct redshift of excitonic absorption peaks with respect to those of as-synthesized samples. Interestingly, in PL spectra, the broad visible emission peaks observed for as-synthesized samples are eliminated completely for annealed samples. However, some of the constituent peaks in the UV–blue region of the PL spectra redshifted due to the grain growth and strain reduction.

ABSTRACTThe present work reports the renewable hydrogen production by an anaerobic photocatalytic reforming of formic acid over CdS sensitized Na2Ti2O4(OH)2 nanotubes. the Na2Ti2O4(OH)2 nanotube was prepared and charactered by X-ray diffraction, UV-visible absorption, transmission electron microscopy, etc. The activity of the catalyst in formic acid was investigated. The greatest photocatalytic reforming activity of formic acid occurs as the formic acid initial concentration is 20 v.%. A probable mechanism for the photocatalytic reforming process was proposed and discussed.

In current work, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were prepared by a rapid biogenic technique “Green method” utilizing root extract of Olea ferruginea. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized for UV visible spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy Studies (HRTEM) and biological assays. UV visible absorption spectroscopy confirms the formation of AgNPs by giving Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) peak at 430 nm. FTIR study showed occurrence of various functional groups present in root extract of Olea ferruginea. X-ray diffraction analysis determined the crystalline nature of bio-fabricated silver nanoparticles. The elemental composition of green made silver nanoparticles was studied through Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) analysis. SEM & HRTEM study revealed the size, shape, surface morphology & dispersion level of molecules. The biologically synthesized AgNPs showed high antimicrobial, antifungal and antioxidant activity. The AgNPs are observed to be an excellent catalyst on reduction of hazardous dyes, which is confirmed by a decrease in absorbance of maximum values.
