In view of major problems for the current metal cutting technology, a combined sand coated wire electrochemical machining technology is introduced. This method uses porous silicon carbide coated in metal wire electrode for grinding and electrolytic machining, which has both wire electrolytic and sand wire grinding characteristics, and greatly improves the cutting efficiency. The composite wire electrochemical cutting technology principle is analyzed. The method for determining the main process parameters is presented, and the effectiveness of its application in thin-walled metal pipe cutting is validated.

The paper presents new results in the building materials area. One of the solutions of the thin-walled elements obtaining can be achieved due to new additive using. The main purpose of the paper was improvement concrete properties for thin-walled constructive elements. The experimental and standard methods have been used and new complex additive for concrete. The research shows that a comprehensive additive consisting of aqueous solution of polycarboxilate polymer, silica sol and potassium nitrite is effective and makes it possible to produce high-efficiency concrete with unique properties: higher compression strength, higher crack resistance, frost resistance, water resistance, abrasion resistance. The study shows that the concrete is chemical resistant. Modified concrete can be recommended for manufacturing critical concrete structures of special purpose, for example high-rise constriction.

In order to improve the limits of wall thickness reduction of 30CrMnSiA steel in process of spinning, realize multi-pass continuous spinning process, and furthermore improve the forming efficiency and shape accuracy of thin-walled shell of 30CrMnSiA steel in spinning process, the influence of traditional annealing and austenization plus spheroidal annealing on the structure performance of 30CrMnSiA steel and the spun performance of 30CrMnSiA steel are studied. Process parameters of traditional anneal and austenize plus spheroidal annealing are optimized to obtain higher plastic performance and lower ratio of yield strength to tensile strength. Spinning experiments of the workpieces that have been heattreated by the optimized traditional annealing process and austenization plus spheroidal process are completed. The result shows that the optimized austenization plus spheroidal annealing is beneficial to achieve a large thinning rate for flow spinning process, and can meet the demands of low cost and high efficiency of batch production.

ABSTRACT With increasing attention toward novel sterilization methods, plasma sterilization has gained more and more interest. However, the underlying mechanisms are still unknown. In this paper, we investigated the inactivation of Escherichia coli using dielectric-barrier discharge (DBD) plasma in saline water. There were three processes shown in the survival curve, namely, during the preparation period, the reaction period, and the saturation period. Observations under a transmission electron microscope (TEM) and detection by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) supplied adequate details regarding these processes. Based on these results, we infer that during the preparation period, the main process is the accumulation of chemical substances. During the reaction period, adequate amounts of chemicals decompose and denature cell membranes and macromolecules to kill bacteria in large quantities. During the saturation period, the killing effect decreases because of the protection by clustered cells and the saturation of pH. This study of sterilizing processes systematically reveals the mechanisms of plasma sterilization. IMPORTANCE Compared with traditional methods, plasma sterilization has advantages of high efficiency, easy operation, and environmental protection. This may be more suitable for air and sewage sterilization in specific spaces, such as hospitals, laboratories, and pharmaceutical factories. However, the mechanisms of sterilization are still relatively unknown, especially for bactericidal activities. Knowledge of sterilization processes provides guidance for practical applications. For example, the bactericidal action mainly occurs during the reaction period, and the treatment time can be set based on the reaction period, which could save a lot of energy. The results of this study will help to improve the efficiency of plasma sterilization devices.

The aim of this study is to investigate the machining characteristics of ultrasonic vibration assisted electrical discharge machining (EDM) process using gas media as the dielectric fluids. The process parameters were designed based on Taguchi method to conduct the experimental works. The main process parameters such as machining polarity, peak current, pulse duration, air pressure, working time, and servo reference voltage were chosen to determine their effects on machining performance in terms of material removal rate and surface roughness for SKD 61 tool steels. The experimental response values were transferred to signal-to-noise (S/N) ratios, and then the significant machining parameters associated with the machining performance were examined by analysis of variance (ANOVA). Therefore, the technique of ultrasonic vibration assisted EDM process in gas media was established with the concerning features related to environmentally friendly, high efficiency, and high machining quality to fit the demands of modern manufacturing applications.
