Natural ventilation in an workshop of iron and steel company has been numerically simulated by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method. Realizable k −ε turbulent model combined with a DO radiation model which took into account the radiation between the heat source and the wall was applied to carry out the simulation for a typical industrial workshop. Numerical results were verified by published experimental data of local temperature and further modification of the workshop structure was made based on numerical calculation to improve the natural ventilation effect further.

This paper adopted computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method, used k-ε RNG turbulence model-closed control differential equations for numerical simulation. Through numerical simulation and analysis of wind environment in a middle school campus, the round wind field under dominant wind direction was got in the summer and winter. According to the results of velocity field and pressure field, analysis the wind environment, compared the influence of wind direction and surrounding buildings space to the natural ventilation, provided guidance introduce for the layout of the school.

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software was used to simulate the internal flow field of an example muffler, and compared the results with the experimental data, verifying the reliability of the simulation algorithm. On this basis, changed the example muffler structure, researched the pressure loss of muffler which was influenced by the insert duct, the position of the baffle and the inlet air velocity. The corresponding regularities have been obtained with the results of computations, which provide a basis for the design of the muffler.

In order to ensure safety of nuclear installations, thermohydraulics has developed many ways how to predict the behavior of coolant in a heated boiling channel. Accuracy of these predictions can be improved using three-dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method, which is based on first principles of fluid mechanics. Even though when using CFD, there is a struggle between the accuracy and low computation costs, in many cases CFD can provide feasible improvement of accuracy compared to more traditional approaches. In this research, the focus is set on channel boiling problems, especially those associated with boiling transitions. The phenomenon of critical heat flux (CHF) is investigated using two-phase CFD computation and is compared to experimental data. There is also comparison with other computation methods. When experiment provides some set of data, CFD calculation provides description of the whole flow behavior that provides significantly more information and is of great value during the design process when it gives the understanding of undergoing effects. Besides CHF, general ability of CFD to predict changes in boiling patterns in two-phase channel boiling flows is discussed.

Prediction of an aerodynamic load acting on a wing or usually called wing loading becomes an important stage for structural analysis. Several methods have been used in estimating the wing loading. Schrenk approximation method is commonly used to achieve the fast estimation of lift distribution along wingspan, but in order to achieve a high level accuracy of aerodynamic prediction, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with Navier Stokes-based equation can be used. LAPAN Surveillance UAV (LSU series) has been chosen to represent an aerodynamics analysis on generic small unmanned aircraft with twinboom vertical stabilizer configuration. This study was focused to verify the Schrenk approximation method using high accuracy numerical simulation (CFD). The goal of this study was to determine the lift distribution along wingspan and a number of errors between Schrenk approximation and CFD method. In this study, Schrenk approximation result showed similarity with the CFX simulation. So the two results have been verified in analysis of wing loading. ABSTRAKPrediksi dari beban aerodinamika yang terjadi pada sayap menjadi salah satu tahap yang penting dalam analisis struktur perancangan pesawat. Beberapa metode telah digunakan untuk mengestimasi besarnya beban aerodinamika pada sayap. Metode Schrenk umum digunakan untuk estimasi cepat perhitungan besar distribusi gaya angkat di sepanjang sayap. Guna mencapai tingkat akurasi yang tinggi dari prediksi aerodinamika, simulasi Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) dengan berbasis persamaan Navier-Stokes dapat digunakan. Pesawat nirawak LSU dipilih untuk merepresentasikan analisis aerodinamika pada pesawat nirawak dengan konfigurasi twin-tailboom pusher. Fokus dari studi yang dilakukan adalah untuk memverifikasi dari metode pendekatan dari Schrenk dengan menggunakan metode yang memiliki akurasi tinggi seperti simulasi CFD. Tujuan dari studi adalah untuk menghitung distribusi gaya angkat sepanjang sayap dan menentukan seberapa besar error dari kedua metode.

Abstract The aim of this research paper is to reduce the drag of SUV by using a vortex generator and to calculate the pressure and turbulence profile across the vehicle. The Ahmed Reference Model is taken as a benchmark test. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation with and without vortex generator is performed at different velocities across the SUV similar to TATA Sumo. The performance of Vortex generator is analyzed at different velocities to obtain the particular velocity at which it will have the minimum value of drag. The end results are henceforth analyzed and a comparative study has been performed with the experimental data given by Gopal and Senthikumar on SUV. And finally it is found that the 10 % of drag reduction is achieved using vortex generator.

The performance of a hydrodynamic journal bearing with different center circumferential grooves (CGs) is investigated using Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. The influences of the CG extended angel have been investigated based on the numerical model. The results show that the CG of millimeter range depth in load zone is not good for the bearing performance but it is opposite in unload zone.

In this work, fluid dynamics of a turbulent round impinging jet has been studied using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and the results have been compared with experimental data from the literature. The fluid was water with density of 1000 kg/m3 and the average velocity of the submerged jet was kept constant at 10.7 m/s while the liquid viscosity varied from 1 cP to 100 cP. Different turbulence models including k-ε, k-ω and Reynolds Stress Model (RSM) have been employed in ANSYS FLUENT and the predicted axial and radial velocity profiles at various distances from the wall are compared with LDV data. It was observed that at locations away from the target wall, predicted velocities are comparable to the measured velocities for all the viscosities. However, near the wall, the deviation between the CFD predictions and experimental measurements become noticeable. The performance of k-ω model and RSM are found to be better than the k-ε model especially for the highest viscous fluid, but no model was found to be superior for all conditions and at all locations.

A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model of a 600 MW opposed swirling coal-fired utility boiler has been established. The chemical percolation devolatilization (CPD) model, instead of an empirical method, has been adapted to predict the nitrogen release during the devolatilization. The current CFD model has been validated by comparing the simulated results with the experimental data obtained from the boiler for case study. The validated CFD model is then applied to study the effects of ratio of over fire air (OFA) on the combustion and nitrogen oxides (NOx) emission characteristics. It is found that, with increasing the ratio of OFA, the carbon content in fly ash increases linearly, and the NOx emission reduces largely. The OFA ratio of 30% is optimal for both high burnout of pulverized coal and low NOx emission. The present study provides helpful information for understanding and optimizing the combustion of the studied boiler
