Collapse accumulation is one of the most common bad geology bodies in mountain and canyon regions in southwest of China. Jiuzi collapse accumulation, which is located in the left bank of 400~1200 meters from wanjiakouzi hydropower station in the Xuanwei city Yunnan province, is primarily performing as a collapse body with some sliding character. Due to the close location to the dam site, Jiuzi collapse accumulation shows a tremendous safe hidden trouble to the engineering construction, and studying on its stabilization is of prime importance. Taking Jiuzi collapse accumulation as an example, expound the application of the Rosenblueth moment estimation method into probabilistic analysis of slope stability, effectively combined the traditional safety factor method with probability assessment method.

The existence of faults in the dam site area threatens the stability and safety of large-scale hydropower projects in China. The fault argillaceous zone is the worst kind of fault fracture zone, and the determination of its deformation and strength parameters is the key point of rock engineering investigation. In this study, the in-situ bearing plate test and direct shear test were carried out on the gouge zone of F67 fault in the dam site of Fengman Hydropower Station. The test results show that the deformation and shear law of each test point is good, which is basically consistent with the actual condition of the measured rock mass. However, due to the limited number of measurements, the results are limited in terms of macroscopic representation. The experimental results provide scientific basis for subsequent engineering design and further enhance the understanding of mechanical properties of fault gouges.

The abutment slope at left bank in Dagangshan hydropower station has complex geological conditions with deep fractures, developed faults and unloading crack. The excavation will influence the stability of the slope. To evaluate the slope stability, the finite element model of this abutment slope was built in this paper to study the deformation, stress and plastic zone distribution of the slope during the excavation. The potential failure location of the slope is forecasted, some suggestions are proposed to be helpful to keep the stability of the slope.

AbstractThe Fractional Cycle Bias (FCB) product is crucial for the Ambiguity Resolution (AR) in Precise Point Positioning (PPP). Different from the traditional method using the ionospheric-free ambiguity which is formed by the Wide Lane (WL) and Narrow Lane (NL) combinations, the uncombined PPP model is flexible and effective to generate the FCB products. This study presents the FCB estimation method based on the multi-Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) precise satellite orbit and clock corrections from the international GNSS Monitoring and Assessment System (iGMAS) observations using the uncombined PPP model. The dual-frequency raw ambiguities are combined by the integer coefficients (4,− 3) and (1,− 1) to directly estimate the FCBs. The details of FCB estimation are described with the Global Positioning System (GPS), BeiDou-2 Navigation Satellite System (BDS-2) and Galileo Navigation Satellite System (Galileo). For the estimated FCBs, the Root Mean Squares (RMSs) of the posterior residuals are smaller than 0.1 cycles, which indicates a high consistency for the float ambiguities. The stability of the WL FCBs series is better than 0.02 cycles for the three GNSS systems, while the STandard Deviation (STD) of the NL FCBs for BDS-2 is larger than 0.139 cycles. The combined FCBs have better stability than the raw series. With the multi-GNSS FCB products, the PPP AR for GPS/BDS-2/Galileo is demonstrated using the raw observations. For hourly static positioning results, the performance of the PPP AR with the three-system observations is improved by 42.6%, but only 13.1% for kinematic positioning results. The results indicate that precise and reliable positioning can be achieved with the PPP AR of GPS/BDS-2/Galileo, supported by multi-GNSS satellite orbit, clock, and FCB products based on iGMAS.

In order to study the failure mechanism and assess the stability of the inlet slope of the outlet structure of Lianghekou Hydropower station, the strength reduction method considering the ubiquitous joint model is proposed. Firstly, two-dimension numerical models are built to investigate the influence of the dilation angle of ubiquitous joints, mesh discretization, and solution domain size on the slope stability. It is found that the factor of safety is insensitive to the dilation angle of ubiquitous joints and the solution domain size but sensitive to the mesh discretization when the number of elements less than a certain threshold. Then, a complex three-dimension numerical model is built to assess the stability of the inlet slope of the outlet structure of Lianghekou Hydropower station. During the strength reduction procedure, the progressive failure process and the final failure surface of the slope are obtained. Furthermore, the comparison of factors of safety obtained from strength reduction method and analytical solutions indicates that the effect of vertical side boundaries plays an important role in the stability of jointed rock slope, and the cohesive force is the main contribution to the resistant force of vertical side boundaries.

Mid-term stability assessment is an important work to support power system operation in a province power grid of China every year. The stability assessment method and process was introduced in this paper. As an example, the stability of Jiangxi province power system was evaluated in the following two years. Weak area and weak transmission line were found out in each power supply area. Prevention and control measures were proposed. According to problems among the assessment process and using the state monitoring data, an approach was discussed to increase the assessment result accuracy. The analysis conclusion provides the reference to the safe and stable operation of Jiangxi power system.

On August 29 and 30, 2012, local extreme rainfalls struck the construction area of the Jinping I Hydropower Station, Xichang, China, and triggered many geohazards. The upper region of the left valley slope 200 m downstream of the dam failed and slid, exposing the D-pile of the G1002 electricity pylon and threatening the entire power transmission line. Therefore, guaranteeing the stability of the residual soil masses in the rear area of the main scarp and the safety of the G1002 electricity pylon became a primary emergency task. Geological field surveys, topographical mapping, study of the failure mechanisms, and stability evaluations were carried out from October 12, 2012, to November 7, 2013. It is revealed that the failure mechanism of the G1002 electricity pylon landslide is flood-induced tractive sliding along the interlayer between the colluvium and the bedrock, significantly influenced by heavy precipitation and frequent blasting activities during the dam construction. The residual soil masses around the G1002 electricity pylon foundation are unstable under rainfall conditions. In order to ensure the stability of the residual soil masses and pylon foundation, a mitigation measure of the anchor cables combined with lattice frame beams was proposed and applied in practice. This paper provides insights into the problems associated with the selection of the locations of electricity pylons in ravine regions as well as mitigation strategies for similar landslides.
