The large-span space beam string-structure system is a kind of economic and larger spanning spatial structure system. A new type of space beam-string-structure with outer truss torus is introduced. Sunflower-patterned space beam-string-structure was taken as an example and its dynamic characteristics under full-span load and half-span load were analyzed by block Lanczos method. The efect of prestress level and load level on dynamic behavior of the structure was studied. The results are valuable for the dynamic response research on the earthquakes and wind vibration and will provide a reference for a further design and project application of such structure.

In this paper there is presented a new space structure system called the PRACTIX system. A review is given of the methodology when using the new solution, with an emphasis on the technology in the manufacturing of the elements and their development into larger parts. Also, there are presented some examples of practical applications of the PRACTIX system for roof structures for petrol stations, and two sports halls, constructed in the Republic of Macedonia. The system is also appropriate for realization of other very different conventional and modern buildings, like industrial halls and warehouse canopies for bus and railway stations, sports stadiums, congress halls and exhibition pavillions, theatres, restaurants, airport hangers etc.

Truss string structure (TSS) is a new type of large-span space structure which is composed of upper spatial truss and bottom high-strength cables with vertical supports. For certain upper truss, the main affect factor of dynamic characteristics of a TSS are prestress of the cables, pole number, rise-span ratio and vertical span ratio. In modal parameters, modal frequencies is the most direct and easily observed parameter, which largely reflects the stiffness of the structure and plays an important role in the dynamic response of the structure. In this paper, the mode testing experiment and finite element analysis is executed, to study the changes of the lower modal frequencies in different prestressed cables and to study the influence of the prestress to the dynamic properties of TSS.

Space beam-string-structure with outer truss torus is a new type of space structure. The new structural system is to reduce the space occupied by roof structure and could be laid by the rigid roofing material conveniently. Based on the local analysis method and the whole system balance, a simplified calculation method for initial prestress of ribbed grid space beam string structure were proposed when the cable curve equation was determined. An example was investigated and the results confirmed the feasibility of the proposed method.

Latticed shell string structure with inner and outer truss torus, radial cables of which emerge from the roof, is proposed. Ribbed latticed shell string structure with a span of 100m is taken as an example and the modal analysis is performed. The effects of the rises of radial cables and the curvatures of latticed shell on dynamic characteristics of this structure are also investigated. The result reveals some characteristics of modal of the latticed shell string structure with inner and outer truss torus, which could be referenced by structure designers.

Balancing stiffness and weight is of substantial importance for antenna structure design. Conventional fold-rib antennas need sufficient weight to meet stiffness requirements. To address this issue, this paper proposes a new type of cable-rib tension deployable antenna that consists of six radial rib deployment mechanisms, numerous tensioned cables, and a mesh reflective surface. The primary innovation of this study is the application of numerous tensioned cables instead of metal materials to enhance the stiffness of the entire antenna while ensuring relatively less weight. Dynamic characteristics were analyzed to optimize the weight and stiffness of the antenna with the finite element model by subspace method. The first six orders of natural frequencies and corresponding vibration modes of the antenna structure are obtained. In addition, the effects of structural parameters on natural frequency are studied, and a method to improve the rigidity of the deployable antenna structure is proposed.

Suspend-dome structure form which colligates advantages of cable dome and reticulated shell is a new type spatial hybrid structure system. This article introduced the configuration and principle of suspend-dome structure system, and researched the structural behavior influence by altering the joint stiffness, vector height of the suspend-dome and the loop cable pretension. The results show that suspend-dome structure should make comprehensive consideration on interaction between vector height, prestress application and other factors, and relevant optimizing design method can be adopted in the design.

AbstractA plea bargaining system is a novelty and originally a legal transplant in Northern European countries. It exists—in some form—for instance in Finland, Norway and Denmark, whereas in Sweden only the system of crown witnesses is likely to be introduced. In this chapter plea bargaining is put into the East-Nordic—Finnish and Swedish—contexts. How does plea bargaining fit into the East-Nordic court culture? Which ingredients does the contemporary legal culture consist of? In which way is court culture changing due to the new values in the society? Or are the amendments made primarily to reduce the costs of the state? Fairness, procedural justice, conflict resolution, negotiated law, pragmatically acceptable compromise, procedural truth, court service, communication and interaction are examples of the topics that are currently discussed in Finland and Sweden. At the same time, the use of written proceedings and proceedings in the absence of an accused are increasing. Is the plea bargaining system a step towards a more effective and economic criminal procedural system or is it mirroring new type of thinking concerning criminal proceedings? In this chapter, these elements are discussed. Finland is used as a main example. The Finnish situation is also compared with Sweden.

Dynamic flux balance models (DFBM) are used in this study to infer metabolite concentrations that are difficult to measure online. The concentrations are estimated based on few available measurements. To account for uncertainty in initial conditions the DFBM is converted into a variable structure system based on a multiparametric linear programming (mpLP) where different regions of the state space are described by correspondingly different state space models. Using this variable structure system, a special set membership-based estimation approach is proposed to estimate unmeasured concentrations from few available measurements. For unobservable concentrations, upper and lower bounds are estimated. The proposed set membership estimation was applied to batch fermentation of E. coli based on DFBM.

An out-of-core block Lanczos method with the OpenMP parallel scheme was developed to solve large spare damped eigenproblems. The symmetric generalized eigenproblem is first solved using the block Lanczos method with the preconditioned conjugate gradient (PCG) method, and the condensed damped eigenproblem is then solved to obtain the complex eigenvalues. Since the PCG solvers and out-of-core schemes are used, a large-scale eigenproblem can be solved using minimal computer memory. The out-of-core arrays only need to be read once in each Lanczos iteration, so the proposed method requires little extra CPU time. In addition, the second-level OpenMP parallel computation in the PCG solver is suggested to avoid using a large block size that often increases the number of iterations needed to achieve convergence.
