Yttrium Iron Garnet (YIG) has been used as an important material in the Circulator/Isolator which is used in RF communication system, mobile phone, and satellite broadcasting, etc. In this study, we investigated the variation of electromagnetic properties of YIG ferrites for Isolator/Circulator application with Zr addition. The YIG ferrites, Y2.1Ca0.9Fe4.4-xV0.5In0.05Al0.05ZrxO12 with x=0, 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2, were prepared by the conventional ceramic sintering process. The Zr-substituted YIG ferrite, Y2.1Ca0.9Fe4.4-xV0.5In0.05Al0.05ZrxO12, showed the highest saturation magnetization (1097 gauss) at x=0.1. Good microwave properties were shown as isolation of 18.60 dB and insertion loss of 0.45 dB at x=0.2. In addition, the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) linewidth decreased as Zr content increased

Different porosity Y3Fe5O12(YIG) ceramics (32% - 62%) were prepared from ceramic powders, which was synthesised by high temperature solid-phase reactions, and the effects of porosity on their electromagnetic properties were investigated. XRD and SEM were used to analyze the phase composition and microstructure of the porous composites. Electromagnetism properties including alternate current conductivity, permittivity and permeability of the composites were tested by HP4991 impedance analyzer (10 MHz~1 GHz). The results indicated that, the porosity and pore diameter were increasing with the addition of pore former by pressureless sintering; the real permeability and permittivity of YIG ceramic decreased when the porosity increasing, at the same time, the peaks of magnetic loss were moved to high frequency. That is to say, the electromagnetism properties of YIG ceramic composites could be adjusted by its porosity. Yttrium iron garnet ceramic can be widely used for high frequency devices due to its excellent and tunable magnetic properties.

The exsolution of magnetite from a substituted Yttrium Iron Garnet, containing an iron excess may lead to a transitional event. This event is characterized hy the formation of a transitional zone at the center of which the magnetite nucleates (Fig.1). Since there is a contrast between the matrix and these zones and since selected area diffraction does not show any difference between those zones and the matrix in the reciprocal lattice, it is of interest to analyze the structure of the transitional zones.By using simultaneously different techniques in electron microscopy, (oscillating crystal method microdiffraction and X-ray microanalysis)one may resolve the ionic process corresponding to the transitional event and image this event subsequently by high resolution technique.
