The remote virtual design system based on B/S framework is investigated in the paper. On reviewing the current virtual design system situation, the control system dynamics simulation is integrated into the virtual design system of roller gear cam mechanism. Simulink and Matlabserver are employed to realize the dynamics simulation for the system, and COM and VRML technologies are used to browse the virtual model on the network platform. The prototype system indicates that the system can serve as an effective tool for designing roller gear cam mechanism with the better properties of interactive dynamics performance design and expansion usage.

A Web-based prototype system has been setup for users to carry out visualization-based manipulations and process planning of design models to support distributed design and manufacturing analysis. The process planning module, which has been deployed as services in the Internet, includes four intelligent approaches, and a Tabu search-based approach is explained to illustrate the optimization process. The Web-based system has been integrated with a distributed feature-based design system, and the latter can generate design models and re-represent them in an XML representation based on VRML and attributes of features to provide the input of the former. Through effective utilization of the Web and Java technologies, this system is independent of the operating system, scalable and service-oriented, and can be used by a geographically distributed design team to organize concurrent engineering design activities effectively.

Based on the survey of existing research work on collaborative design and on our experiences and work in product growth design theory, a feasible approach—collaborative product growth design method to integrate the genetic engineering methodology, collaborating tools and web based information into the automatic design activity has been proposed in this paper. Firstly, the product growth design strategy and its characteristics are studied based on automation technology in the product structure design. Then, to guarantee a successful transformation and good use of existing product data and related product series on internet, the information exchange model and web based virtual design gene pool model in the process of product growth design are put forward. Finally, the mechanism of the combination of product growth design and collaborative design process are described, and the framework of collaborative design based product growth design system is introduced. Through theoretical study and hard development work interesting and useful results have been obtained.

E-commerce is one of the innovations that has started to become a new norm in this millennium. Due to the time-consuming physical shopping activities, the increase in living expenses, and the increase of responsibilities, people tend to find new ways to adapt to this new norm. Thus, buying groceries online has also been the preferred way for many people nowadays as it could save time and reduce daily hassles. This paper discusses the design and development of a web-based Groceries Ordering System with QR Code that was built using the web-based applications such as PHP, HTML and MySQL. The design and development of the prototype system involves three main phases, which are the system design, system development and system testing and took into consideration five criteria of the end-user satisfaction of an online shopping system, which are the system’s content, accuracy of information, format of the information displayed, ease of use and timeliness. The prototype system will also incorporate the QR code technology where it provides functions for information of products’ purchases and transactions. Upon completion of the prototype system, testing for usability among potential end-users was conducted, where it focusses on system’s usefulness, information quality and interface quality. Forty participants have completed the usability testing, and the results have showed that the Groceries Ordering System with QR Code has fulfilled all the five criteria of end user’s satisfaction
