The article describes the structure and the principles of operation of the test system for the investigation of safety of height rescue equipment used by rescue services. The system is composed of a portable computer, data acquisition block and measurement modules equipped with own power supply sources and radio transmission modules. Some of the modules constitute original, mechatronic measurement devices with specific metrological properties. The system is intended particularly for accreditation tests for height rescue equipment used by Fire Brigades.

An inexpensive but versatile data acquisition system has been developed with the use of a modified IBM-DACA (IBM Personal Computer Data Acquisition and Control Adaptor). With the modification described, the IBM-DACA can be operated in more various modes of operation. Data can be read either by software trigger or by hardware trigger mode. Also, all the three channels of the on-board timer/counter can be fully utilized for complex or accurate timing and experiment control. This allows gated data acquisition with user-specified timing and a maximum A/D throughput to memory of up to 18520 samples/s in a single channel. With its menu-driven software, this system can be used in various scientific data acquisition environments with minimal expense.

Rolling machines are often used for forming flat elements or pipes. Problems occur when used to produce cylindrical elements other than pipes, or when experimental materials are used. It is required to introduce flexible control of the rolling process parameters in such cases. It is necessary to monitor the device operating parameters. When a rolling machine works with experimental materials, there are no typical control and acquisition data systems available. The article presents the concept and capabilities of the control and computer data acquisition system supporting the rolling process. The main task of software system is acquisition of force and kinetic parameters related to the analysed process of the compression during rolling. This system allows current recording and analysis of five physical values. The acquisition data application is developed in National Instruments LabVIEW environment. The software algorithm is based on the state machine. The article contains a detailed description of hardware and software implementation of the functions mentioned.
