Aegiale Streckeri, n. sp., ♂.—Expands from2¼ inches to 3 inches. Upper side.—Superiors rich brown, but not as bright, nor has the brown as much red in it, as in yuccœ. There are three sub-apical costal white spots; a lemon-yellow spot at end of cell; there is a row of five yellow spots running across the wing, parallel with the exterior margin; the upper two are small and square in shape; the lowe three are small and triangular, and there is one in each of the three median interspaces. The inferiors have a yellow marginal border about 1/8 inch in width, the wing being otherwise immaculate, and is clothed with long, silky brown hair. Under side.—Superiors have the spots repeated. Inferiors are gray with a varying number of small white spots—one specimen having two and the other five. The female is larger and has the same number of spots as the male; the three sub-apical spots are white and the remainder yellow; in the female the five spots on the wing are in two series, the two upper being nearer the exterior margin, and the three lower are nearer the base; in the other words, they do not form a continuous line as in the male. This species has been confounded, in collections, with cofaqui, Strecker, which was described froma female. The male of cofaqui, is marked practically like the female, but the male has the long hair on the inferiors as in the new species.

Within a short time two very interesting species (4-notatus, Ash., and taurulus, Ckll.) have been added to this genus. I have lately received another new species from Mr. Chas. Palm, of New York City, collected in S. W. Utah, which is even more interesting than the two above mentioned. I describe it herewith:Aphilanthops utahensis, n. sp.—Male: Length, 7.5 mm. Rufous; region of ocelli, mesonotum, metapleura, and fifth and sixth abdominal segments above, blackish. Markings pale lemon-yellow. Head evenly, somewhat sparsely punctate, covered with silvery pubescence, which is very dense on the face, extending over the bases of the mandibles in two pointed tufts. Clypeus with a yellow spot on either side, the median lobe strongly tridentate, the teeth short and blunt. Antennæ with scape yellow; flagellum slightly darker above.

Lasiancistrus (Loricariidae: Hypostominae: Ancistrini) is diagnosed by the unique presence of a ventral strut of the pterotic and the presence of whiskerlike odontodes on the snout. Lasiancistrus has about 16 species assigned to it; however, only four are valid (L. schomburgkii, L. caucanus, L. guacharote, and L. heteracanthus), L. nationi is an Ancistrus, and L. trinitatus is incertae sedis in the Loricariidae. Lasiancistrus maracaiboensis and L. mystacinus are synonyms of L. guacharote; L. pictus, L. castelnaui, L. caquetae, L. guapore, L. multispinis, and L. scolymus are synonyms of L. schomburgkii; and L. planiceps, L. mayoloi, and L. volcanensis are synonyms of L. caucanus. Two new species are described: L. tentaculatus from the río Orinoco basin and L. saetiger from the rio Guama. The species can largely be told apart via color (L. schomburgkii has no or white spots on the fins, L. saetiger has entirely gray fins, and the rest have black spots in the fins), the presence of abdominal plates (L. caucanus, L. saetiger, and L. tentaculatus have naked abdomens, L. guacharote has a few small plates near the insertion of the pectoral fin, L. heteracanthus has a large patch of small plates, and L. schomburgkii is variable), and nuptial male condition (L. tentaculatus has small tentacles along the edge of the snout and the other species have a patch of whisker-like odontodes at the corners of the snout). Most species are widespread in piedmont regions of South America with L. schomburgkii occurring in the Amazon, Orinoco, and Essequibo basins.

A new species of Cribraria, described herein as C. bicolor, appeared in moist chamber cultures on samples of the bark of Eucalyptus sp. collected at two localities in Australia. The morphology of representative specimens was examined by light and scanning electron microscopy, and micrographs of relevant morphological details of sporocarps and spores are provided. The species has a number of distinct and unique morphological features, including a glossy bright-violet globose sporotheca and a two-colored long stalk which is bright-red over the lower one-third and light yellow or lemon-yellow over the upper two-thirds. The combination of these characteristics as well as a shallow calyculus which is dark-violet when viewed under a dissecting microscope and bright red in transmitted light when mounted in lactophenol makes C. bicolor a well-defined morphospecies when compared to all other species of Cribraria. The stability of the taxonomic characters of the species was confirmed by an examination of a number of specimens.

More than ten new species of colonial volvocine algae were described in world literature during recent years. In present review, the published data on taxonomy, geographical distribution and the species problem in this group of algae, mainly from the genera Gonium, Pandorina, Eudorina, and Volvox, are critically discussed. There are both cosmopolitan volvocalean species and species with local or disjunct distribution. On the other hand, the description of new cryptic taxa in some genera of the colonial family Volvocaceae, such as Pandorina and Volvox, complicates the preparation of a comprehensive review on their geography.

A total of 14 species in seven tingid genera have been described from the mid-Cretaceous Burmese (Kachin) amber from northern Myanmar, with very distinct paleofauna. Here, a new species of a new genus, Burmavianaida anomalocapitata gen. et sp. nov., is described from Kachin amber. This new species can be readily distinguished from the other described tingid taxa by the apparently smaller body and the structures of the pronotum and hemelytron. Burmavianaida gen. nov. shares the diagnostic characters with two clades composed of three extant subfamilies (Cantacaderinae + Tinginae) and Vianaidinae and may represent an extinct clade distinct from them. To the best of our knowledge, B. anomalocapitata sp. nov. is the smallest species of Tingidae among over 2600 described species. Our new finding supports the hypothesis of the miniaturization phenomenon of insects in Kachin amber, as suggested by previous studies.

Camelinaneglecta is described as a new diploid species and its relationship to the other diploids of the genus and to the somewhat superficially similar tetraploid C.rumelica and hexaploid C.microcarpa, are discussed. SEM of seed and stem trichomes of the new species are presented.

We sampled two forms of Leptobrachium in syntopy at the type locality of L. pullum at upper elevations on the Langbian Plateau, southern Vietnam. The two forms differed in morphology (primarily in coloration), mitochondrial DNA, and male advertisement calls. One form closely agrees with the type series of L. pullum (but not to its original description due to error), and the other is described as new. Leptobrachium leucops sp. nov. is distinguished from its congeners by having small body size (males with SVL 38.8–45.2), the upper one-third to one-half of iris white, a blue scleral arc, a dark venter, and sexually active males without spines on the upper lip. Leptobrachium pullum and L. mouhoti, a recently described species from low-elevation slopes of the Langbian Plateau in eastern Cambodia, are morphologically divergent but genetically similar, warranting further investigation into geographic variation in the red-eyed Leptobrachium of southern Indochina.

Two new species of Terebrasabella Fitzhugh & Rouse, 1999 are described from eastern Australia. Terebrasabella hutchingsae sp. nov., was found from preserved coral rock debris collected in 1977 on the outer Barrier Reef near Lizard Island, Queensland. Terebrasabella fitzhughi sp. nov., was found alive in burrows in and among spirorbin serpulid tubes on intertidal rocks in Tasmania in 1996. Both species were found in mucoid tubes, and brood their young in a manner similar to the only other described species of Terebrasabella, T. heterouncinata Fitzhugh & Rouse, 1999. Terebrasabella hutchingsae sp. nov., is exceptional as it possesses a type of thoracic neurochaetal uncinus different from the other two species, and which is similar to the notochaetal acicular “palmate hook” seen in Caobangia. Descriptions of both species are given, and the diagnosis for Terebrasabella is emended. Larval and chaetal morphology and relationships among of the three known Terebrasabella spp. are discussed.

Upretia squamulosa is described as new to science from the arid valley of Jinsha-jiang River, China. It is characterized by a squamulose thallus, greyish green to brown upper surface, lecanorine apothecia, and by containing gyrophoric and lecanoric acids. The other species in the genus, U. amarkantakana, differs from the new species by the crustose to subsquamulose thallus with lobate margin and the absence of gyrophoric and lecanoric acids. A phylogenetic tree based on nrITS for Upretia and related genera in the subfamily Caloplacoideae is established to assess the affinities of the new species.

Orthezia cheilanthi, n. sp.—Adult ♀ Length, 3.5 mm. Width, 3-3.5 mm. Length + ovisac, 6-8 mm. Width of Ovisac 3-4 mm. Body above covered with whtie secretion, which forms lateral and sub. dorsal longitudinal keels. A well-defined subdorsal furrow between the keels and the lateral margin formed by 3 or more rows of paltes; these are smaller than the projecting marginal plates, which are flattened; caudal plate and the 3 or 4 plates on each side of it very little longer than the lateral plates. The structure of the secretion is compact; in most of the other species of Orthezia it is fluffy.
