Male lappets vivid deep yellow. Dorsal and ventral sides of abdomen deep bright yellow with a narrow black band on the anterior margin of each segment. The appearance of the species is intermediate between eglanterina and hera, differing most conspicuously from these two in wing color. Primaries pale yellow faintly tinged with pink, but much less intense than in eglanterina. Secondaries brilliant yellow.

Head 0·83 mm. long, shiny orange-yellow, with the clypeus and the adjoining portion of the frons shiny black. Eyes black, prominent, extending laterally beyond the anterior lateral margins of the pronotum. Rostrum brownish black, extending to, but not surpassing, the posterior coxae; lengths of the joints: first 0·53 mm., second 0·76 mm., third 0·4 mm., and fourth 0·6 mm. Antennae brownish black, the third and fourth joints somewhat paler; first joint slightly incrassated, length 0·83 mm., second 2·0 mm., third 1·83 mm., fourth 1 mm. Pronotum shiny orange-yellow, posteriorly somewhat suffered with dark brown; length in middle 1·4 mm., breadth at anterior margin 0·8 mm., at posterior margin 2·0 mm.; sides straight, posterior margin moderately convex. Scutellum shiny black, finely rugosely punctate and regularly covered with pale depressed hairs; length in the middle 1·3 mm. Corium and cuneus similar in colour and pilosity to the scutellum; membrane dark smoky brown, veins shiny black, passing the apex of the abdomen. Sternum: mesostethium and metastethium black, the metastethial orifices and the surrounding areas very pale yellow: undersides of abdomen shiny black, covered with very fine pale hairs. Legs: coaxae blackish brown; femora dirty orange-yellow, suffused at base and apex with brown; tibiae dark brown, armed with fine black spines; tarsi black, strongly pilose.

Colour:—Head bright yellow shading to orange at apex of clypeus and on labium; eyes grey-black; a broad shining brownish-black percurrent stripe down middle of vertex, extending slightly round anterior margin of head to frons, and much broader anteriorly than posteriorly. Pronotum shining black with a trace of whitish pruinosity giving a bluish sheen; a narrow transverse yellow band along anterior margin behind each eye, extending outwardly to and along lateral margins, a pair of narrow arcuate whitish spots on anterior disc between eyes and almost meeting in middle line, an impressed whitish spot on each side beyond outer end of arcuate spot and fusing externally with the yellow lateral border, and a large obscure yellowish rounded spot in each of the basal lateral angles. Propleura yellow. Scutellum shining black, covered with whitish pruinosity over impressed region of disc, giving a bluish sheen. Meso- and meta-pleura yellow shading to dark brown towards acetabula, the meso- and meta-sterna dark brown. Tegmina semi-hyaline, sometimes powdered with white pruinosity, which gives them a bluish sheen; the suprabrachial area and the first, third and fourth apical areas slightly infumate, the remainder infuscate; the costal plaque dark brown, veins brown. Wings hyaline, somewhat infumate, the veins (except cross-vein between second and third longitudinal veins) brown. Legs pale yellow, the anterior tibiae and tarsi and the intermediate tarsi infuscate. Abdomen entirely black, with very fine white pruinosity giving a bluish sheen.

During our surveys of fungi of some areas adjacent to the Cholistan desert, Punjab, Pakistan, we collected a new species in Lepiota sect. Echinatae. It was found on loamy soil under Vachellia nilotica and is described and illustrated as new based on the distinct morphology and ITS nrDNA analysis. The new species, Lepiota haroonabadensis, is characterized macroscopically by a light yellowish orange pileus covered with brown squarrose scales, bright yellowish to yellowish red stipe with pale yellow spiny scales, and rudimentary annulus; and microscopically by ellipsoid basidiospores, narrowly clavate to clavate cheilocystidia, cylindrical to sub-cylindrical or ellipsoidal elements of the pileus covering and cylindrical to globose elements of the stipe covering. A full description, color photos, line illustrations and a phylogenetic tree to show the position of the new species are provided.

Microglanis carlae, new species, is described from the río Paraguay basin and distinguished from its congeners by the following combination of characters: paired and anal fins mottled or with thin faint bands, trunk with dark-brown saddles, anterior margin of pectoral spine with serrations retrorse proximally and antrorse distally, tip of pectoral spine as a distinct bony point, continuous portion of lateral line reaching vertical through last dorsal-fin ray, caudal peduncle with irregularly shaped, faint to dark blotch, maxillary barbel surpassing vertical through dorsal-spine origin, and dark bar on posterior flank continuous from base of adipose fin to that of anal fin. The new species is included in the Microglanis parahybae species complex on the basis of color pattern.

The adult male and larva of a new species in the genus Chimarra Stephens, Chimarra paramonorum n. sp., are described, diagnosed, and illustrated based on the specimens collected in Zhejiang Province, China. The larva and adult male were associated by mtCOI gene sequences. The male can be separated from C. monorum and C. thienemanni mainly by small preanal appendages and by wrinkled, hairless endotheca. The larva of the new species can be separated from other congeners by a combination of characters including the notch on the anterior margin of the frontoclypeus, the teeth of the mandibles, and the length of the seta-bearing process of each forecoxa. The larval description is the first for Chimarra in China.

We describe a new species of pimelodid catfish of the genus Iheringichthys from the upper Paraná basin, Brazil. Iheringichthys syi n. sp. is distinguished by the comparatively fine serration along the anterior margin of the pectoral-fin spine, an adpressed dorsal-fin remote from the adipose-fin origin, a large eye (23.2-31.2% of head length), narrow interorbital (16.2-23.0% of head length), long snout (42.0-51.0% of head length), long postorbital length (30.6-34.0% of head length), low adipose fin (4.8-7.8% of standard length), eye diameter 97.0-140.0% of interorbital length, and body with numerous, small dots irregularly scattered on flanks, especially marked on anterior half of flank.

A new freshwater goby, Rhinogobius maculagenys sp. nov., was collected from Hunan Province in Southern China. This species can be distinguished from all congeners by a combination of the following features: first dorsal fin with 6 spines; second dorsal fin with a single spine and 7–9 segmented rays; anal fin with a single spine and 6–8 segmented rays; pectoral fin with 16 segmented rays; 32–34 longitudinal scales; 9–13 transverse scales; 11+16=27 vertebrae; pore ω1 missing; head and body yellowish brown; cheek and opercle yellowish brown with over 30 small orange spots, branchiostegal membrane yellow with over 10 small orange spots in males and white and spotless in females; first dorsal fin trapezoidal in males and nearly semicircular in females, with large bright blue blotch in front of second spine; spines 4 and 5 longest, rear tip extending to base of second branched ray of second dorsal fin in males when adpressed, but just reaching or not reaching anterior margin of second dorsal fin in females; caudal fin with 5–6 vertical rows of brown spots; flank with several longitudinal rows of blackish-brown spots; and belly pale white.

A new species of Gymnopus sect. Androsacei, namely, G. pallipes is described and illustrated based on morphological and molecular phylogenetic evidence. It is characterized by marasmioid basidiomata, a dark brown to reddish brown pileus becoming dull white to yellowish grey with age, whitish to pale yellow stipe and presence of rhizomorphs. Phylogenetic analyses support it as a new species within Gymnopus sect. Androsacei. The detailed morphological description, colour photos of basidiomata, and line drawings of microcharacters are presented and delimitation characters from similar species are discussed. A key to the known species of Gymnopus s. str. from China is also provided.

Abstract We describe a new species of Aratinga—A. pintoi (Sulfur-breasted Parakeet)—from open areas on the northern bank of the lower Amazon River in the state of Pará, Brazil. It was for a long time misidentified as a juvenile of A. solstitialis or a hybrid between that species and A. jandaya. It can be distinguished from other Aratinga species by the combination of the following characters: mantle and wing coverts green, suffused with pale yellow; underparts pale yellow, with pale orange restricted to belly and flanks; and feathers on the underparts with a dark rachis. On the basis of color characters and general morphology, we suggest that this new species should be a member of a group composed of A. solstitialis, A. jandaya, A. auricapillus, and, possibly, Nandayus nenday. A review of taxonomy and distribution of the group is also presented. We describe a new frog species in the genus Rugosa from Sado Island, Japan. This new species, Rugosa susurra, is ge-netically close to R. rugosa Temminck and Schlegel, but is morphologically distinguishable and postzygotically isolatedfrom the latter species. The skin over the entire body is much smoother, and the abdomen and ventral surface of hindlimbare deep yellow whereas these are pale yellow or grayish yellow in R. rugosa. In addition, duration of the advertisementcall of Rugosa susurra is definitely longer than that of R. rugosa. Rugosa susurra is the first endemic amphibian species to Sado Island in Japan.
