AbstractThe systematics of Acalymma sensu stricto of North America including Mexico are revised. Acalymma sensu stricto is defined and distinguished from the other species groups of Acalymma. Sixteen species are discussed including four new species: A. blomorum, A. palomarense, A. invenustum, and A. luridifrons all from Mexico. Three new subspecies of A. blandulum (LeConte) are described: blandulum (LeConte) new status, nigriventre, and yucatanense. Acalymma coruscum costaricense Bechyné is placed as a synonym of A. innubum (Fabricius). Keys are presented to all species and subspecies. Habitus and male genitalia drawings are given for all species and distribution maps are given where appropriate.

The tribe Sisyphini sensu stricto Mulsant, 1842 comprises only three genera, the widespread Sisyphus Latreille, 1807 and Neosisyphus Müller, 1942, and the Mauritius endemic, Nesosisyphus Vinson, 1946. In southern Africa, Sisyphus and Neosisyphus are represented by five species groups in each genus. Together, they comprise a total of 33 valid species, of which six are new: Sisyphus auricomus sp. n; Sisyphus australis sp. n ; Sisyphus bicuariensis sp. n; Sisyphus inconspicuus sp. n; Sisyphus swazi sp. n; and Neosisyphus tembyi sp. n. A further Southern African species, Sisyphus crispatus Gory, 1833, is proposed as a nomen dubium. Sisyphus natalensis Balthasar, 1968 (syn. n), and Sisyphus bornemisszanus Endrödi, 1983 (pars) (syn. n) are made synonyms of Sisyphus sordidus Boheman, 1857. Lectotypes and paralectotypes are designated for Sisyphus costatus (Thunberg, 1818); Sisyphus seminulum Gerstaecker, 1871; Sisyphus nanniscus Péringuey, 1901; Sisyphus transvaalensis Péringuey 1901; Neosisyphus spinipes (Thunberg, 1818) and Neosisyphus barbarossa (Wiedemann, 1823). Diagnoses, photographs of habitus and male genitalia, lists of examined material and distribution maps are presented for all species. An identification key to the southern African sisyphine species is provided.

AbstractLyctocoris canadensis new species is described from southwestern Quebec. The other species of Lyctocoris known to occur in North America are L. campestris (Fabricius), L. doris Van Duzee, L. elongatus (Reuter), L. mexicanus Kelton, L. okanaganus Kelton & Anderson, L. rostratus Kelton & Anderson, L. stalii (Reuter), and L. tuberosus Kelton & Anderson. Species are keyed, known information on their ecology is given, and male genitalia and female abdominal segments are illustrated.

AbstractThe large and complex genus Euxoa is divided into six subgenera: Orosagrotis, Longivesica, Euxoa, Chorizagrotis, Pleonectopoda, and Crassivesica. Orosagrotis and Chorizagrotis have until now been considered as valid noctuid genera by many workers. Longivesica and Crassivesica are here described as new. The taxonomy and distribution of North American species in all subgenera except the very extensive subgenus Euxoa are considered in the present paper. Only 49 species in a probable North American Euxoa fauna of some 200 species are included in the five subgenera reviewed here, however.Within the genus, species have been segregated into subgenera and species groups largely on the basis of the structure of the male genitalia, and particularly on the conformation of the vesica of the male. Keys to subgenera, species groups, and species are presented. No new species are described. Subspecies are not formally considered because an adequate analysis of the often complex geographic variation is beyond the scope of this paper.

The Old World water scavenger beetle genus Sternolophus Solier is revised. Six new species are described: Sternolophus acutipenis sp. n., S. insulanus sp. n., S. jaechi sp. n., S. mandelai sp. n., S. prominolobus sp. n. and S. solitarius sp. n. Three taxa are reinstated as valid species: Sternolophus angustatus (Boheman), S. elongatus Schaufuss and S. mundus (Boheman). The subgenera within the genus are rejected and Neosternolophus Zaitzev syn. n. is synonymized with Sternolophus s. str. Lectotypes are designated for Hydrophilus angolensis Erichson, H. angustatus, H. rufipes Fabricius, Sternolophus brachyacanthus Régimbart, S. comoriensis Fairmaire, S. elongatus, S. frater Schaufuss, and S. rufipes var. foveoliceps Kolbe. On the basis of similar morphological characters, two species-groups are proposed for some of the species within the genus: The angolensis group including S. angolensis, S. inconspicuus (Nietner), S. mundus, and S. solitarius, and the solieri group including S. angustatus, S. elongatus, S. mandelai, S. rufipes Fabricius, and S. solieri Castelnau. Sternolophus unicolor (Castelnau) is considered a nomen dubium. Male genitalia and other diagnostic morphological characters are illustrated, and distribution maps are presented for all 17 species.

The taxonomy and systematics of the genus Digitonthophagus Balthasar (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae: Onthophagini) is revised. A detailed study of the male genitalia combined with external morphology suggests that the variability, previously recognized, for D. gazella is hiding a species complex within the Afrotropical region and the Arabian Peninsula. The current study recognizes 16 species; 13 from the Afrotropical region and Arabian Peninsula and three from the eastern portion of the Saharo-Arabian region and the continental Indomalayan region. Species are organized into six species groups based on the results of the morphology-based phylogenetic analysis. The following 12 species are described as new: D. aksumensis Génier new species; D. biflagellatus Génier new species; D. dilatatus Génier new species; D. eucatta Génier new species; D. falciger Génier new species; D. fimator Génier new species; D. namaquensis Génier new species; D. petilus Génier new species; D. sahelicus Moretto new species; D. uks Génier new species; D. ulcerosus Génier new species; and D. viridicollis Génier new species. In order to stabilize nomenclature, lectotypes are designated for Scarabaeus bonasus Fabricius, 1775; Scarabaeus catta Fabricius, 1787, and Onthophagus gazella lusinganus d’Orbigny. A neotype is designated for Scarabaeus dorcas Olivier, 1789 whose status and synonymy need to be altered in order to clarify the status of Scarabaeus gazella auctorum, the widely introduced species with economic importance. A naming scheme is presented for the sclerites of the internal sac. External and male genitalia are illustrated and distribution maps are provided for each species.

A new species of the genus Birdantis Stål, 1863 (Hemiptera: Fulgoridae), B. bhaskarai sp. nov. from Larat Island (Tanimbar), is described. Birdantis collaris (Walker, 1870) stat. rev. and B. trilineata (Schmidt, 1926) stat. rev. are reinstated as valid species, respectively from status of subspecies and as junior synonym of B. delibuta Stål, 1863. These four species, as well as the other one previously described from the Maluku Islands, B. decens Stål, 1863, are illustrated from their type specimens. An identification key, a distribution map, illustrations of habitus and details of male genitalia are provided. The synonymy between Myrilla Distant, 1888 and Birdantis is formally reinstated and all species formerly placed in the subgenus Birdantis (Myrilla) are transferred to Birdantis sensu stricto. Birdantis is transferred to the subfamily Aphaeninae Blanchard, 1847 and now contains eighteen species distributed in Maluku (five species), New Guinea and neighbouring islands (ten species) and Australia (three species).

Cybister (s. str.) poblanus sp. n. is described from the Puebla state in Mexico. The species belongs to a group of members of the genus Cybister Curtis, 1827, which occur only in North America (including the Caribbean Islands) and are characterised by having several distinct ridges on the metacoxae (stridulatory organ) in males. The new species is the third of the genus reported for Mexico and the fourth for North America. It can easily be separated from its congeners by its great size and the shape of the male aedeagus. The habitus, the male genitalia and other details of C. poblanus sp. n. are illustrated and photographs of the male genitalia of the other three Cybister are given for comparison. Megadytes (Bifurcitus) lherminieri (Guérin-Méneville, 1829) and M. (B.) magnus Trémouilles & Bachmann, 1980 are the only other big species of subfamily Cybistrinae which occur in North America. They are externally similar to the new species and can easily be confused with it, hence the illustrations of their aedeagi to facilitate identification. A key to species is given for all species of Cybistrinae occurring in America north of Belize and Guatemala, including Cuba and the Bahamas. Lectotypes are designated for Cybister flavocinctus Aubé, 1838, Cybister explanatus var. fusculus Zimmermann, 1919, and Cybister (Megadytes) aubei Wilke, 1920. Notes are given on material of some Neotropical and Nearctic species of Cybister and Megadytes stored in different museums.

A new material on the Neotropical genus Anaulacomera Stål, 1873 from its subgenera Anallomes Stål, 1875, Stenotegmora subgen. nov., Irisovia subgen. nov. and Munticercora Gorochov, 2020 is considered with description of six new species and one new subspecies: A. (Anallomes) galarzai sp. nov. from Peru (Junin Department: Satipo Prov.); A. (A.) monicae sp. nov. from Peru (Junin Department: Satipo Prov.); A. (S.) adunca sp. nov. from Peru (Junin Department: Satipo Prov.); A. (S.) spinifera sp. nov. from Peru (Ucayali Department: Atalaya Prov.); A. (S.) originalis sp. nov. from Peru (Junin Department: Satipo Prov.); A. (I.) grigoryi sp. nov. from Peru (Junin Department: Satipo Prov.); A. (M.) sclerogenitalis woronovi subsp. nov. from Colombia (“Penas Blancos, Rio Magdalena”). The above-mentioned new subgenera are distinguished from all the other subgenera of this genus by the following features: Stenotegmora subgen. n. by narrower tegmina, and the male genitalia with a large median inflation on the dorsal fold; Irisovia subgen. n. by the male last abdominal tergite with strongly denticulate posterior lobes, the male cerci short but thick and with distal processes having numerous spinule-like setae, and the male genitalia membranous. For A. (M.) psedoepiproctalis Gorochov, 2020 and A. (M.) s. sclerogenitalis Gorochov, 2020, some important geographical mistakes in their type data are corrected (Ecuador and Mexico instead Peru, respectively), and for the latter taxon, a previously unknown female is described.

Two new species of the genusAteuchusWeber are described from the region of Los Chimalapas, Oaxaca, Mexico:A.benitojuarezisp. n.andA.colossussp. n.A diagnosis for distinguishing these new species from the other species of this genus in North America is included. This paper is illustrated with pictures of the dorsal habitus and the male genitalia of the new species. The evolutionary relationships of the species are discussed, as well as their distribution and ecology. It is considered that the species of the genusAteuchuspresent in North and Central America correspond to the Typical Neotropical and Mountain Mesoamerican distribution patterns.

AbstractNine new species of Slaterocoris Wagner are described from North America: pilosus from British Columbia; alpinus from Colorado; apache from Arizona, Colorado, and Utah; flavipes, solidaginis, and sparsus from California; argenteus, grandis, and simplex from Durango, Mexico. The other species in the genus are: ambrosiae (Kngt.), atratus (Uhl.), atritibialis (Kngt.), breviatus (Kngt.), croceipes (Uhl.), hirtus (Kngt.), longipennis Kngt., mohri (Kngt.), pallidicornis (Kngt.), pallipes (Kngt.). robustus (Uhl.), rubrofemoratus Kngt., sheridani Kngt., stygicus (Say), and utahensis Kngt. Strongylocoris uniformis Van D. is placed in synonymy with Stiphrosoma robusta Uhl. Strongylocoris albibasis Knight does not belong to Slaterocoris and will be dealt with in a subsequent paper. All species are keyed and the male genitalia illustrated.
