. The climatology of the cold-point tropopause (CPT) and tropopause characteristics in a subtropical area like The Arabian Peninsula is examined using the radiosonde data of the CPT characteristics and NCEP Reanalysis data of the tropopause characteristics. The monthly mean data for January and July are analyzed for three stations, namely Medina, Tabuk and Dammam in Saudi Arabia. The trends of CPT and tropopause characteristics of pressure, height, temperature, temperature anomalies, relative humidity, wind speed and potential temperature are also analyzed.  The trends of these characteristics show that they experienced a sharp change during the 1990s and a significant change for the period from 2000 to 2016. For the whole period of study, the month of July, CPT and tropopause pressure decreased for about 5 hPa, whereas the height increased for more than 100 m. The temperature experienced a sudden drop during the beginning of the 1990s and a smooth decrease during the following years in January. Furthermore, a strong correlation is found between the CPT temperature and the Solar Cycle during the ‘90s period then it decreased sharply after this period.

Data from a moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer instrument onboard the Terra satellite along with a radiative transfer model and a machine learning technique were integrated to predict direct solar irradiance on a horizontal surface over the Arabian Peninsula (AP). In preparation for building appropriate residual network (ResNet) prediction models, we conducted some exploratory data analysis (EDA) and came to some conclusions. We noted that aerosols in the atmosphere correlate with solar irradiance in the eastern region of the AP, especially near the coastlines of the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. We also found low solar irradiance during March 2016 and March 2017 in the central (~20% less) and eastern regions (~15% less) of the AP, which could be attributed to the high frequency of dust events during those months. Compared to other locations in the AP, high solar irradiance was recorded in the Rub Al Khali desert during winter and spring. The effect of major dust outbreaks over the AP during March 2009 and March 2012 was also noted. The EDA indicated a correlation between high aerosol loading and a decrease in solar irradiance. The analysis showed that the Rub Al Khali desert is one of the best locations in the AP to harvest solar radiation. The analysis also showed the ResNet prediction model achieves high test accuracy scores, indicated by a mean absolute error of ~0.02, a mean squared error of ~0.005, and an R2 of 0.99.

AbstractDromedary camels in the Arabian Peninsula distribute along different geographical and ecological locations, e.g. desert, mountains and coasts. Here, we are aiming to explore the whole genome sequence data of ten dromedary populations from the Arabian Peninsula to assess their genetic structure, admixture levels, diversity and similarity indices. Upon including reference dromedary and Bactrian camel populations from Iran and Kazakhstan, we characterise inter-species and geographic genetic distinction between the dromedary and the Bactrian camels. Individual-based alpha genetic diversity profiles are found to be generally higher in Bactrian camels than dromedary populations, with the exception of five autosomes (NC_044525.1, NC_044534.1, NC_044540.1, NC_044542.1, NC_044544.1) at diversity orders (q ≥ 2). The Arabian Peninsula camels are generally homogenous, with a small degree of genetic distinction correlating with three geographic groups: North, Central and West; Southwest; and Southeast of the Arabian Peninsula. No significant variation in diversity or similarity indices are observed among the different Arabian Peninsula dromedary populations. This study contributes to our understanding of the genetic diversity of Arabian Peninsula dromedary camels. It will help conserve the genetic stock of this species and support the design of breeding programmes for genetic improvement of favorable traits.

However, Islam claims that lay out of Civilization was already established before the birth of Holy Prophet (S.A) and all the prophets after Hazrat Adam (A.S) were continuously preaching the salient factors of this civilization, however it was completed and declared in written form (Al-Quran) during the period of Holy Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W).  Reveletion was the core of formulating the creeds and Ideas of an individual, purifying him, creating Links and establishing the building upon which the entire nation is based. Allah said the truth when He said: "Indeed, there has come to you from Allah a light (Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him) and a plain book (Sora Al-Maida: 15:1) This Qur'an. Wherewith Allah guides all those who seek His good pleasure to ways of peace, and He brings them out of darkness by His will unto light and guides them to to a straight way (Islamic Monothesim). Monothesim (Tawheed), Self, Purification, Dignity of Human being, Equality, Social Justice, Moral Values, Tolerance, Rule of Law and Freedom of Expression are some basic characteristics of Islamic Civilization.

The volume presents the proceedings of the second international workshop on the Archaeology of the Arabian Peninsula. Its subtitle, 'Connecting the evidence', portrayed our striving for investigating relationships and connections between different regions, materials and themes of research. The nine contributions straddle the entire expanse of the Peninsula and beyond, in order to counter the present divide in different academic disciplines. The chronological focus spans from the Pre Pottery Neolithic, the Bronze and Iron Ages down to the Islamic Middle Ages. The analyzed themes range from funerary to cultic landscapes, oasis formation and role of metallurgy for desert dwellers in state-of-the-art interdisciplinary perspectives and field case studies.

Striped hyena (Hyaena hyaena) is a member of the Hyaenidae family distributed globally from Africa to Central Tanzania, the Arabian Peninsula, Turkey, Central Asia, and the Indian subcontinent including Nepal. Only a few documented studies have been carried out at a national as well as international level regarding their habit, habitat, threats, and conservation measures. Various open access works of literature including articles, reports, and books published from 1941 to 2021 were assessed through Google scholar and Research gate for this study. We searched, refined, and selected 42 pieces of literature for the study purpose. We found that striped hyenas were recorded from five national parks of lowland Terai regions and they were recorded in six districts lying outside the protected area in Central and Western Terai as well as the hilly region of Nepal. Habitat degradation, decreased prey population, retaliatory killing by poisoning, poaching and road kills are found to be the major threats to these endangered scavengers that require immediate conservation initiatives We believe that this manuscript can fulfill the knowledge gap on this species and suggests conservation initiatives, which could be a landmark for conducting further research and conservation of striped hyenas.

One of the world’s largest humanitarian crises that have been going on in Yemen for the last ten years has highlighted the growing tensions within its society. To better understand the rising antagonism between the North and the South, it is necessary to analyze the significant historic events that influenced the development of the Yemeni identity. For the inhabitants of South Yemen and Hadramaut, many of such events took place in the first half of the sixteenth century. The following article presents an analysis of these events focusing on the available Yemeni sources, especially the “Tārīkh al-Shiḥr wa akhbār al-qarn al-‘āshir”, the annals by Muḥammad b. ‘Umar al-Ṭayyib Bā Faqīh al-Shiḥrī (d. 17th cent. AD). The comparison of this chronicle with other sources reveals how the clash between Hadramaut, the Portuguese and the Ottoman empires, as well as an attempt by the Kathīrī Sultan Badr Bū Ṭuwairiq to establish a centralized South Arabian state, caused deeper integration of this region into global politics. Ironically, it was the Sultan’s loyalty towards the Ottoman Empire meant to ensure the rise of al-Shihr as one of the main trade centres of the Arabian Peninsula that soon contributed to its decline. Lastly, the sources reflect the spread of firearms that had an impact on the stratification of South Arabian society and gave more power to the tribes, allowing them to subjugate the sultans, thereby preventing the creation of a unified state in the following centuries.
