The saltopteran fauna of Portugal was studied between 1992-2000. Sampling took place during field tlips, lasting yearly 5 to 14 days. Several southern, central and northern regions were visited at different times of the year. In total, 76 species (31 of Ensifera and 45 of Caelifera) were recorded, from which a C/E quotient of 1.45 was calculated. For some of the species caught, the song of the male was presented as additional taxonomic character. First records were made for nine species: <em>Tylopsis lilifolia, Conocephalus conocephalus, Platycleis falx laticauda</em>, two <em>Ctenodecticus</em> spp., <em>Mogoplistes</em> <em>brunneus</em>, <em>Tetrix</em> <em>subulata</em>, <em>Paracimena t. bisignata</em>. Uromenus anapaulae was found as new species and described. Using literature data, the species of Saltatoria previously mentioned for Portugal were listed, and some notes added for insufficiently known species. The biogeography of the saltatoria fauna of Portugal is discussed in relation to its origin with the result that 19 (25%) specis are endemic for the Iberian Peninsula.

Six species of Eutardigrada are recorded from Portugal; four of them, Macrobiotus crenulatus Richters, 1904, Hypsibius seychellensis Pilato, Binda & Lisi, 2006, Diphascon (Diphascon) pingue (Marcus, 1936) and D. (Diphascon) patanei Binda & Pilato, 1971 are recorded for the first time in Portugal. Two species, Minibiotus orthofasciatus sp. nov. and Bertolanius (new name of Amphibolus) portucalensis sp. nov. are new to science. Minibiotus orthofasciatus sp. nov. is one of the species of the genus with three macroplacoids, microplacoid and cuticular pores forming transverse bands. The new species differs from all existing species by one or more of the following characters: distribution of the pores, shape of the pores, absence of dots on the legs, level of insertion of the stylet supports on the buccal tube. To the new species is attributed an unembryonated egg similar to those of Minibiotus intermedius (Plate, 1888), M. poricinctus Claxton, 1998, M. floriparus Claxton, 1998, and M. weglarskae Michalczyk, Kaczmarek & Claxton, 2005 but different from them in some details. Bertolanius portucalensis sp. nov. is very similar to the other species of the genus, but it differs from them in having very small cuticular tubercles. From some of them it differs by characters of the buccopharyngeal apparatus and/or of the eggs. This is the first record of the genus and of the Eohypsibiidae family in the Iberian Peninsula.

Little is known about the taxonomy and distribution of terrestrial planarians on the Iberian Peninsula. Few studies have tried to investigate the local diversity of these animals, due to both their lack of economic interest and their low abundance. In this study we have made extensive searches and collections of terrestrial planarians from the Iberian Peninsula, thus gathering new information on their taxonomy and biogeography. The study includes the description of three new species of the genus Microplana, viz. Microplana aixandrei sp. nov., Microplana grazalemica sp. nov., and Microplana gadesensis sp. nov. We present distribution maps summarizing published and new records of land planarians. The present work substantially increases our knowledge on this group of animals in Spain and Portugal and at the same time also evidences the scarcity of data and studies on the biology of these organisms.

The Iberian Peninsula is part of the South European Atlantic Shelf within the Lusitanian ecoregion. Given the characteristics of this region, a great invertebrate biodiversity is expected. Nevertheless, no literature records of Polycladida are known for the Cantabrian Sea. Here, we report the presence of six polyclad species, including one new species.Notoplana vitrea, considered endemic to the Mediterranean Sea, was found in the Cantabrian Sea, demonstrating its presence in Atlantic waters. This species was previously reported for these waters on two natural history photographic websites: the importance of searching, indexing and disseminating this type of record for the scientific community is discussed.Discocelis tigrinais reported for the first time for the Cantabrian Sea, and is the northernmost record to date. In this paper,Pleioplana atomatais reported for the second time for the Iberian Peninsula, yet is the first record for the Cantabrian Sea. Although a literature record ofLeptoplana tremellarisfor the Iberian Peninsula exists, it is considered a misidentification ofL. mediterranea; therefore, this work provides the first record ofL. tremellarisfor the Iberian Peninsula. The cosmopolitan speciesCycloporus papillosusis also reported for the Cantabrian Sea. A new species,Imogine fafaisp. nov., is described and taxonomically compared with other species of the genus.

Pseudoscorpions inhabiting mature Quercus pyrenaica Willd. trees have been surveyed using hollow emergence traps and window traps in Salamanca, Spain. Three new species are described: Neobisium (N.) hispanicum Zaragoza & Hernández-Corral, n. sp., Rhacochelifer gaeli Zaragoza & Hernández-Corral, n. sp. and Rhacochelifer nonidezi Zaragoza & Hernández-Corral, n. sp. The genera Amblyolpium Simon, 1898 and Beierochelifer Mahnert, 1977 and the species Amblyolpium dollfusi Simon, 1898 and Beierochelifer peloponnesiacus (Beier, 1929) are new records for the Iberian Peninsula. Beierochelifer peloponnesiacus jonicus (Beier, 1932) is shown to be a junior subjective synonym of B. peloponnesiacus n. syn. New regional records of five other species belonging to the families Cheliferidae, Chernetidae and Withiidae are given. Keys are given for the species of the genera Pseudorhacochelifer Beier, 1976 and Rhacochelifer Beier, 1932 with elongated keels on posterolateral corners of carapace and anterior tergites in males, and for the Rhacochelifer species of the Iberian Peninsula. Complementary data to the description of the female syntypes from Caravaca (Murcia, mainland Spain) and males from the Canary Islands of Rhacochelifer pinicola (Nonídez, 1917) are given. Brief redescriptions of the female of Neobisium (N.) maroccanum Beier, 1930 and the male of Rhacochelifer euboicus Mahnert, 1977 are provided. The previous record of R. disjunctus from Slovakia is shown to be an error for R. euboicus. New data on the distribution and habitats of species of Cheliferidae, Chernetidae and Withiidae are given.

The caddisfly fauna of Algeria is far from complete. In this study, we present data from Trichoptera sampling in northwestern Algeria (Tafna and Ghazouana River basins) during 2014–2019, enhancing knowledge of this group in the country. We were able to identify 30 species and 17 genera in the study area. Among the listed taxa, five species (Hydroptila fortunata, Ecnomus deceptor, Tinodes waeneri, Limnephilus lunatus, Setodes argentipunctellus,) are new records for Algeria. An updated species checklist of Algerian Trichoptera includes 63 species. We also provide an update of the Maghreb checklist with comments on species distributions. The Maghrebian caddisfly checklist, which includes 44 Maghrebian endemic species, is still very poor in relation to that of neighboring Mediterranean geographical areas and countries, such as the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal), France, or Italy.

Knowledge about the fauna of scutacarid mites (Heterostigmatina, Pygmephoroidea, Scutacaridae) on the Iberian Peninsula is very scarce. In order to increase information on Iberian scutacarids, collections were performed in the south of Andalusia, resulting in one new species Scutacarus tarifae sp. nov. and four new records for the Iberian Peninsula: Diversipes exhamulatus (Michael, 1886), Scutacarus carinthiacus Ebermann, 1979, S. echidna (Berlese, 1905) and S. eucomus (Berlese, 1908). The first descriptions of male and larva of S. eucomus are provided, and the unusual shape of the pharyngeal pumps of S. carinthiacus is discussed.

Minibiotus gumersindoi n. sp. is described. This species was collected on a granite mountain range in Sierra de Guadarrama (Bustarviejo valley, Embalse de la Jarosa and Cercedilla, Madrid, Spain) and on a volcanic island in Parque Natural Caldera de Taburiente (La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain). This new species is characterized by a unique set of characters in the genus: the presence of large round pores in the body and a larger round pore at the distal part of each leg. New records of several known species, for Madrid, Canary Islands and/or the Iberian Peninsula are given.

During several sampling campaigns in the regions of Galicia and Andalusia in Spain and the Algarve region in Portugal, specimens of twelve species of schizorhynch rhabdocoels were collected. Four of these are new to science: three species of Proschizorhynchus (P. algarvensis sp. nov., P. arnautsae sp. nov. and P. troglodytus sp. nov.) and one species of Schizochilus (S. coninxae sp. nov.). The new species of Proschizorhynchus can be distinguished from their congeners by the curvature and length of their stylet, as well as the cirrus sheath and the organisation of the genital system. Schizochilus coninxae sp. nov. has a distinct two-part stylet that is unique within the genus. In addition to these new species, new data are reported for the diascorhynchid Diascorhynchus caligatus and the schizorhynchids Carcharodorhynchus multidentatus, C. tenuis, C. flavidus, Proschizorhynchus pectinatus and P. reniformis. Finally, new records for C. flavidus from the Hawaiian archipelago are presented.

Two new species and a new record of Calycomyza Hendel are described for the Brazilian Amazon: Calycomyza rolandrae sp. nov. and Calycomyza dryas sp. nov. This is the first time we recorded Calycomyza hyptisicola Spencer and Calycomyza richardsi (Spencer) in Brazil. These species can be distinguished by the structure of the male terminalia, but the female terminalia can be an important taxonomic character, especially the ninth abdominal sternite, ninth abdominal tergite and the marginal seta.
