Ovarian torsion after hysterectomy is a rare event. The diagnosis of ovarian torsion is challenging because symptoms are nonspecific. We present a case of ovarian torsion 2 years after laparoscopic hysterectomy (LH). Furthermore, we performed a literature review about ovarian torsion after hysterectomy. This case shows that, in cases of acute onset pelvic pain in patients with history of hysterectomy, the adnexal torsion must be kept in mind in the differential diagnosis, especially in those women who had undergone LH.

In addition to a concise review of the meaning and definition of shariah, the chapter introduces the sources of shariah, including the two main types of revealed and rational sources and their subdivisions. The history of shariah (“the way to the watering place,” or “the path to correct guidance, salvation, and relief”) is occupied with scholastic developments and the embodiment of what became known as fiqh, which consists mainly of the practical rules of Islamic law that regulate the daily lives of Muslims. Shariah is a broad concept that is not confined to legal rules but comprises the totality of guidance that God Most High has revealed to humankind, pertaining to the dogma of Islam, its moral values, and its practical legal rules.

The history of typing strains of the genus Salmonella is a matter, perhaps, causing anxiety to those choosing to do research with this microorganism. The nomenclature and taxonomy of microorganisms of great Public Health importance, such as Salmonella, are causing proliferation of opinions and information representing various "schools of thought". They produce a difficult to manage bulk of scientific information, eventually deterring inexperienced newcomers in this field of research. In overcoming this confusing proliferation of information, international bodies, having the responsibility of summarizing and officializing available knowledge, publish regularly "landmark decisions" on nomenclature and taxonomy. The present concise review of the history of Salmonella nomenclature aims in guiding the inexperienced researchers studying salmonellosis in animals and man toward the sources of accurate information.

Liver regeneration in mammals is a unique phenomenon attracting scientific interest for decades. It is a valuable model for basic biology research of cell cycle control as well as for clinically oriented studies of wide and heterogeneous group of liver diseases. This article provides a concise review of current knowledge about the liver regeneration, focusing mainly on rat partial hepatectomy model. The three main recognized phases of the regenerative response are described. The article also summarizes history of molecular biology approaches to the topic and finally comments on obstacles in interpreting the data obtained from large scale microarray-based gene expression analyses.
