Background: Renal artery to inferior vena cava fistula is a rare event postnephrectomy. We report a case of an adult male in whom a renal artery to inferior vena cava fistula was detected on non-invasive studies following nephrectomy for penetrating trauma. Case Report: A fistula between the right renal artery and inferior vena cava was confirmed with diagnostic angiography. The fistula was successfully embolized using microcoils. Discussion: This case highlights the importance of exploring retroperitoneal hematomas secondary to penetrating trauma.

Abstract Atmospheric aerosol nucleation contributes to around half of cloud condensation nuclei globally. Despite the importance for climate, detailed nucleation mechanisms are still poorly understood. Understanding aerosol nucleation dynamics is hindered by non-reactivity of force fields and high computational costs due to rare event nature of aerosol nucleation. Developing reactive force fields for nucleation systems are even more challenging than covalently bonded materials because of wide size range and high dimensional characteristics of non-covalent hydrogen bonding bridging clusters. Here we proposes a system transferable framework to train an accurate reactive force field (FF) based on deep neural network (DNN) and further bridges the DNN-FF based molecular dynamics (MD) with cluster kinetics model based on Poisson distributions of reactive events to overcome high computational costs from direct MD. We found that previously reported acid-base formation rates tend to be underestimated several times, emphasizing acid-base nucleation observed in multiple environments should be revisited.

Sudden death is a rare event in the pediatric population but with a social shock due to its presentation as the first symptom in previously healthy children. Comprehensive autopsy in pediatric cases identify an inconclusive cause in 40–50% of cases. In such cases, a diagnosis of sudden arrhythmic death syndrome is suggested as the main potential cause of death. Molecular autopsy identifies nearly 30% of cases under 16 years of age carrying a pathogenic/potentially pathogenic alteration in genes associated with any inherited arrhythmogenic disease. In the last few years, despite the increasing rate of post-mortem genetic diagnosis, many families still remain without a conclusive genetic cause of the unexpected death. Current challenges in genetic diagnosis are the establishment of a correct genotype–phenotype association between genes and inherited arrhythmogenic disease, as well as the classification of variants of uncertain significance. In this review, we provide an update on the state of the art in the genetic diagnosis of inherited arrhythmogenic disease in the pediatric population. We focus on emerging publications on gene curation for genotype–phenotype associations, cases of genetic overlap and advances in the classification of variants of uncertain significance. Our goal is to facilitate the translation of genetic diagnosis to the clinical area, helping risk stratification, treatment and the genetic counselling of families.

AbstractIn small business credit risk assessment, the default and nondefault classes are highly imbalanced. To overcome this problem, this study proposes an extended ensemble approach rooted in the weighted synthetic minority oversampling technique (WSMOTE), which is called WSMOTE-ensemble. The proposed ensemble classifier hybridizes WSMOTE and Bagging with sampling composite mixtures to guarantee the robustness and variability of the generated synthetic instances and, thus, minimize the small business class-skewed constraints linked to default and nondefault instances. The original small business dataset used in this study was taken from 3111 records from a Chinese commercial bank. By implementing a thorough experimental study of extensively skewed data-modeling scenarios, a multilevel experimental setting was established for a rare event domain. Based on the proper evaluation measures, this study proposes that the random forest classifier used in the WSMOTE-ensemble model provides a good trade-off between the performance on default class and that of nondefault class. The ensemble solution improved the accuracy of the minority class by 15.16% in comparison with its competitors. This study also shows that sampling methods outperform nonsampling algorithms. With these contributions, this study fills a noteworthy knowledge gap and adds several unique insights regarding the prediction of small business credit risk.

Abstract Liquid argon (LAr) is a common choice as detection medium in particle physics and rare-event searches. Challenges of LAr scintillation light detection include its short emission wavelength, long scintillation time and short attenuation length. The addition of small amounts of xenon to LAr is known to improve the scintillation and optical properties. We present a characterization campaign on xenon-doped liquid argon (XeDLAr) with target xenon concentrations ranging from 0 to 300 ppm by mass encompassing the measurement of the photoelectron yield Y, effective triplet lifetime τ 3 and effective attenuation length λ att. The measurements were conducted in the Subterranean Cryogenic ARgon Facility, Scarf, a 1 t (XeD)LAr test stand in the shallow underground laboratory (UGL) of TU-Munich. These three scintillation and optical parameters were observed simultaneously with a single setup, the Legend Liquid Argon Monitoring Apparatus, Llama. The actual xenon concentrations in the liquid and gaseous phases were determined with the Impurity DEtector For Investigation of Xenon, Idefix, a mass spectrometer setup, and successful doping was confirmed. At the highest dopant concentration we find a doubling of Y, a tenfold reduction of τ 3 to ∼90 ns and a tenfold increase of λ att to over 6 m.

Transit of Venus over the solar disc is an extremely rare event. The phenomenon occurred last time on June 8, 2004 when the entire event was visible from all parts of India. Another Transit of Venus is going to occur on June 6, 2012, though the entire event will not be visible from India. The Positional Astronomy Centre publishes data on Transit of Mercury and Venus in its annual publication ‘The Indian Astronomical Ephemeris’. In this paper an attempt has been made to provide documentation on the methodology for computation of contact timings of the event. Using the methodology, the geocentric contact timings and local contact timings for important places of India for the event of Transit of Venus of June 6, 2012 have been predicted. The result thus obtained for different geocentric phases of the event has been compared with the predicted timings published by The Nautical Almanac Office, United States Naval Observatory and NASA.

A 17-year-old male was referred to the emergency room with sharp abdominal pain, pallor, sweating, and vomiting 12 h after the administration of his first Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). He had abdominal pain, an increase in serum lipase value of > 3 times the upper limits of normal, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings consistent with acute mild pancreatitis (AP). He was started on treatment with fluid therapy and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for pain management, after which he recovered rapidly and was discharged on the fourth day after hospitalization. The available data are difficult to interpret as AP is a relatively frequent disease, but its occurrence after vaccination seems extremely rare. Although it is a rare event, AP should be considered after COVID-19 vaccination, especially in those exhibiting abdominal tenderness and vomiting, which should be promptly treated and adequately investigated.
