Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose a data mining approach for mining valuable markets for online customer relationship management (CRM) marketing strategy. The industry of coffee shops in Taiwan is employed as an empirical case study in this research. Design/methodology/approach Via a proposed data mining approach, the study used fuzzy clustering algorithm and Apriori algorithm to analyze customers for obtaining more marketing and purchasing knowledge of online CRM systems. Findings The research found three hard markets and one fuzzy market. Furthermore, the study discovered two association rules and two fuzzy association rules. Originality/value However, industry of coffee shops has been always a fast-growing and competitive business around the world. Thus, marketing strategy is important for this industry. The results and the proposed data mining approach of this research can be used in the industry of coffee shop or other retailers for their online CRM marketing systems.

In data mining approach, quantitative attributes should be appropriately dealt with as well as Boolean attributes. This paper presents an essential improvement for extracting fuzzy association rules from a database. The objective of this paper is to improve the computational time of mining and to prune extracted redundant rules simultaneously for an actual data mining application. In this paper, we define the redundancy of fuzzy association rules as a new concept for mining and prove essential theorems concerning the redundancy of fuzzy association rules. Then, we propose a basic algorithm based on the Apriori algorithm for rule extraction utilizing the redundancy of the extracted rules. The essential performance of the algorithmis evaluated through numerical experiments using benchmark data. Fromthe results, themethod is found to be promising in terms of computational time and redundant-rule pruning.

Since transactions may contain quantitative values, many approaches have been proposed to derive membership functions for mining fuzzy association rules using genetic algorithms (GAs), a process known as genetic-fuzzy data mining. However, existing approaches assume that the number of linguistic terms is predefined. Thus, this study proposes a genetic-fuzzy mining approach for extracting an appropriate number of linguistic terms and their membership functions used in fuzzy data mining for the given items. The proposed algorithm adjusts membership functions using GAs and then uses them to fuzzify the quantitative transactions. Each individual in the population represents a possible set of membership functions for the items and is divided into two parts, control genes (CGs) and parametric genes (PGs). CGs are encoded into binary strings and used to determine whether membership functions are active. Each set of membership functions for an item is encoded as PGs with real-number schema. In addition, seven fitness functions are proposed, each of which is used to evaluate the goodness of the obtained membership functions and used as the evolutionary criteria in GA. After the GA process terminates, a better set of association rules with a suitable set of membership functions is obtained. Experiments are made to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Data mining applications have enormously altered the strategic decision-making processes of organizations. The application of association rules algorithms is one of the well-known data mining techniques that have been developed to cope with multidimensional databases. However, most of these algorithms focus on multidimensional data models for transactional data. As data warehouses can be presented using a multidimensional model, in this paper we provide another perspective to mine association rules in data warehouses by focusing on a measurement of summarized data. We propose four algorithms — VAvg, HAvg, WMAvg, and ModusFilter — to provide efficient data initialization for mining association rules in data warehouses by concentrating on the measurement of aggregate data. Then we apply those algorithms both on a non-repeatable predicate, which is known as mining normal association rules, using GenNLI, and a repeatable predicate using ComDims and GenHLI, which is known as mining hybrid association rules.

Abstract Background: Previous research has shown success of data mining methods in marketing. However, their integration in a knowledge management system is still not investigated enough. Objectives: The purpose of this paper is to suggest an integration of two data mining techniques: neural networks and association rules in marketing modeling that could serve as an input to knowledge management and produce better marketing decisions. Methods/Approach: Association rules and artificial neural networks are combined in a data mining component to discover patterns and customers’ profiles in frequent item purchases. The results of data mining are used in a web-based knowledge management component to trigger ideas for new marketing strategies. The model is tested by an experimental research. Results: The results show that the suggested model could be efficiently used to recognize patterns in shopping behaviour and generate new marketing strategies. Conclusions: The scientific contribution lies in proposing an integrative data mining approach that could present support to knowledge management. The research could be useful to marketing and retail managers in improving the process of their decision making, as well as to researchers in the area of marketing modelling. Future studies should include more samples and other data mining techniques in order to test the model generalization ability.

Association rules extraction is one of the important goals of data mining and analyzing. Aiming at the problem that information lose caused by crisp partition of numerical attribute , in this article, we put forward a fuzzy association rules mining method based on fuzzy logic. First, we use c-means clustering to generate fuzzy partitions and eliminate redundant data, and then map the original data set into fuzzy interval, in the end, we extract the fuzzy association rules on the fuzzy data set as providing the basis for proper decision-making. Results show that this method can effectively improve the efficiency of data mining and the semantic visualization and credibility of association rules.

The objectives of this study is to analyze a large amount of data that often appears to create a knowledge base that can be utilized by firm to enhance their decision support system. The authors used the association rules with rapid miner software, data mining approach, and predictive analysis that contains various data exploration scenarios. The study provides important evidence for adopting data mining methods in the industrial sector and their advantages and disadvantages. Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI) has a type of computer maintenance activity. Currently, a numerous errors often occur due to the accuracy in computer maintenance which has a major impact on production results. Therefore, this study focuses on association rules using growth patterns that often appear on variables that have been determined into the algorithm (FP-growth) which results in knowledge with a 100% confidence value and a 97% support value. The value results of this study has support and trust are expected to become knowledge for top management in deciding evergreen IT-business routines.
