It is natural for students to expect appropriate behaviours from their teachers. Not only students but also every human being appreciates care from surrounding individuals. Within the classroom, students can feel less motivated to take part in the learning of the given course with the teacher who has offensive behaviours. The purpose of this study was to explore students’ reflections about what they consider to be appreciable behaviors of mathematics teachers, for students to be motivated to learn. The study also intended to find out whether there is a link between teachers' behaviours and students' career development.  A total number of 53 students comprised of 16 primary pupils, 26 secondary students, and 11 graduate students participated in this study. Purposive, inconvenient, and systematic sampling methods were used to collect data. The findings showed that teachers’ behaviours can influence learners’ interest to learn mathematics. However, the study showed that there is no link between mathematics teachers' behaviours and learners' career development. Therefore, teachers are advised to be approachable, responsive, and behave in a way that motivates students to learn mathematics.

In statistical inference, importance of sampling is recognized as one of its key concepts, which has allowed its incorporation internationally in different curricular guidelines and specifically in the Chilean curriculum, since the first notions of sampling are introduced in 7th Grade. This paper presents an analysis of the responses to an open-ended written questionnaire, designed to evaluate understanding of sampling, that was applied to a sample of 1,241 Chilean secondary students of 8th, 10th and 12th Grades in six different secondary schools. A mixed methodology was used, with qualitative description of responses and a quantitative analysis of their frequencies. The results reflect outstanding difficulties in the use of elements related to sampling and its properties in different problem situations. For example, students can distinguish the concept of sample in contexts close to their experiences; but when faced with different sampling methods, they are not able to identify biases associated to sample selection. Thus, when deciding if a sample is representative, they mostly identify cases in which the given sample is not.

The quality of teaching and teacher plays a significant role in enhancing students’ cognitive and motivational development. The purpose of this study was to identify longitudinal trajectories of student perceptions of mathematics teachers’ professional competence, and to examine how these trajectories were related to students’ engagement and achievement in mathematics and their choice of college major. The data used for analysis were obtained from the Seoul Education Longitudinal Study, a study of 2714 secondary students who were followed up for five successive years. Results showed four heterogeneous trajectories of students’ perceptions of teacher competence, and these trajectories were associated with students’ engagement and achievement in mathematics. In addition, those who consistently perceived their mathematics teachers to be highly competent and whose perceptions of their teachers’ competence became more positive over time were more likely than other students to choose math-intensive majors. These findings imply longitudinal links between mathematics teachers’ professional competence as perceived by their students and students’ choice of college major as well as their engagement and achievement in mathematics.

In the past, the majority of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers were focused on careers in academia. Times have changed, and many are now considering careers outside of academia and are aware of numerous exciting career opportunities in industry and nonprofit and government organizations. However, although it is easy to find resources about academic careers, the same cannot be said for positions outside the ivory tower. Here, on the basis of my experience as a scientist and as someone who works with graduate students and postdocs to help them enter nonacademic career paths, I provide a perspective on career development and how to find a job.

The study investigated the competence of elementary mathematics teachers’ knowledge of students about some numbers. Studies have shown that there are common misconceptions that students exhibit in dealing with numbers. This study wanted to determine how competent elementary teachers are in identifying and dealing with such students’ misconceptions. A sample of 30 teachers was randomly selected as participants in this study. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire designed for teachers to respond to through detail explanations in writing. Participants were presented with the problem situations and were expected to respond to the questions or tasks. The problem situations were a given problem and the hypothetical students’ solutions of the given problem. The study revealed that while some teachers were competent in addressing students’ misconceptions in the topic area, others had difficulties themselves in understanding the problem situations and the hypothetical students’ solutions.

Food is something that can not be separated from the life of every human being. Its variation makes a lot of people interested in tasting many types of food, even they have not known yet. The detail information of restaurants, especially their location could be a problem. So, the restaurants recommendation website is made to help them. The recommendations are given by the Squeezer algorithm using the user’s input as references. The accuracy of the given recommendations are determined from the amount and consistency of the user at the time of selecting the item. The Term Frequency Ranking is used as a searching feature to display the search results in ordered manner by their relevancy rank. Experiment result shows that the Term Frequency Ranking gives high value of Recall, 1, and 0.46 for the Precision value. Index Terms—Recommended System, Squeezer, Term Frequency Ranking, Website.
