This paper highlighted the clinical strategies for implementing minimum intervention dentistry (MID) in dental practice and in dental education in resource challenged practice environments (developing economies). The objectives of each of the 4 phases of minimum intervention treatment plan (MI Identify, MI Prevent, MI Restore and MI Recall) were highlighted and three levels of caries risk (Low risk, High risk and Super high risk) were adopted with the appropriate targeted preventive non restorative treatments. Three evaluation rating scales were introduced (early recall evaluation rating scale, caries control evaluation rating scale and oral health outcome evaluation rating scale) for monitoring the success or failure of counselling, the targeted preventive (non-surgical) treatments and the oral health outcome. Practitioners and academics in resource challenged practice environments should embrace MID with open minds, its goal is maximum preservation of healthy oral tissues with oral health promotion and targeted preventive non- surgical treatments as its cornerstones. Furthermore, MID is mercury free and will safeguard our environment from mercury pollution for the benefit of future generations. Keywords: Minimum intervention dentistry, mercury free dentistry, dental practice, dental education, resource challenged practice environments

Objectives To assess whether adults attending a dental practice for regular dental care have better oral health than adults attending casually in response to a dental problem, and to explore the barriers to asymptomatic attendance. Methods An observational case-control study comparing the characteristics of 100 regular attenders with 100 casual attenders in one general dental practice in North Staffordshire. All study subjects were aged 18 years or over. Sociodemographic characteristics of the two groups were collated, including age, gender, social class, marital status, employment status and smoking status. The primary outcome measure was the observed number of teeth with dentinal caries diagnosed using bitewing radiographs. Results Regular attenders were observed to have better oral health with respect to dental caries and tooth mobility (p<0.05). This was not explained by the observation that casual attenders were more likely than regular attenders to be male, aged 18–44 years, in social class III or IV. Secondary outcomes, including number of subjects with mobile teeth and teeth with >30% bone-loss, were also significantly worse in the casual attenders. However, the median number of teeth present in both groups was 27. In regular attenders, the most common reason for attending was to ‘keep the teeth’ (96%). In casual attenders, ‘fear/dislike of dental treatment’ was the most frequent indicator of non-attendance (56%). Conclusions In our study, adults who regularly attended general dental practice were shown to have better oral health, including less overall tooth decay, mobility and bone-loss, compared with adults who did not attend on a regular basis. Assuming this result to be externally valid, a challenge for the dental profession in the future will be to develop effective oral health promotion initiatives.

The biofilm control is a considerable factor in the prevention and treatment of oral diseases as caries and periodontal disease. However, according to the literature, the collective programs show frustrating results at long-term due to difficulty to change the behavior of the participant individuals. Therefore, taking into consideration the model of the dental practice in Brazil, where the population has an oral health needfulness, the purpose of this study is to introduce different strategies that allow the accomplishment of collective programs, so that they succeed in the promotion of the oral health either in individual or collective level.

OR oral health OR dental practice OR dental education).

Objectives: The study aims to explore the prevalence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and to examine the associated factors with ADHD among primary students by Vanderbilt ADHD rating scale for teacher and parents. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was conducted in 564 students who selected randomly in 4 primary schools in Hue city. Vanderbilt ADHD rating scale for parents and teachers were applied to evaluate the ADHD of children over 6 months ago. Results: The overall prevalence of children who had high risk with ADHD was 4.1% (95%CI: 2.44 - 5.72), including 4.6% and 4.8% in the rating of teachers and parents, respectively. Male was more likely to have ADHD than female (OR adj: 4.64 (95%CI: 1.53 - 14.05) and lack of closely friend (OR adj: 5.11 (95% CI: 2.13 - 12.24). Conclusion: Vanderbilt ADHD diagnosis rating scale for teachers and parents can be used to early recognization children with a high risk of ADHD. Key words: ADHD, Vanderbilt, ratings scale, teacher, parent, children
