This paper examined the needs to revitalize instructional leadership of primary and junior secondary schools headteachers in Nigeria, for successful implementation of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Programme. Instructional leadership, as viewed in the paper, has to do with creating a school culture that makes students’ learning a priority and provides the resources necessary to support teachers’ efforts to improve students’ learning. The need for revitalization of instructional leadership in the Nigerian Basic Education schools emanates from the identified problems of lack of clearly defined general instructional visions in the schools in question, dearth of instructional materials, ineffective instructional supervision by the headteachers, and absence of school-based professional development programmes for teachers. With the introduction of UBE and subsequent curricular review, the paper discovered that there was the need to re-orient teachers towards effective teaching of the newly infused contents of the 9-year basic education curriculum. The paper, based on the identified needs for the revival of instructional leadership has recommended clear definition of schools’ instructional vision, effective classroom supervision, organizing school-based teacher professional development programmes among other things as foremost measures to be taken to improve this vital function of the school headteachers in question.

The study sought to raise the perception of trainees about teaching in the basic education school, based on the experiences developed in the pre-service. The data collection instruments involved questionnaires with 18 interns who participated in the practicum course 1 of the Physical Education degree course at a public university, documentary analysis of the internship reports and the course's pedagogical plan and semi-structured interviews with part of the interns. The experiences developed at internship discipline enabled the trainees: a) To recognize the welcoming of the school's teachers, as well as to identify their different formatives roles in the school; b) To understand the difficulties in the development of the teacher's work in its most varied aspects, highlighting the importance of lesson planning. c) Defining about the engagement (or not) on facing the choice of the teaching profession. Such learning was favored due to the work carried out in partnership between university and school, established as a two-way street, which allowed to promote a joint work with the university, which has been aimed a better quality in the training of teachers for basic education.

The teacher is a major milestone in the world of education, the ability and achievement of students cannot be separated from the role of a teacher in teaching and guiding students. Based on the Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 14 of 2005 concerning Teachers and Lecturers, in Article 1 explained that teachers are professional educators with the main task of educating, teaching, guiding, directing, training, evaluating, and evaluating students in early childhood education through formal education, basic education and education medium. Whereas in Article 4 of the Act, it is explained that the position of teachers as professionals serves to enhance the dignity and role of teachers as learning agents to function to improve the quality of national education.Decision making is an election process, among various alternatives that aim to meet one or several targets. The decision-making system has 4 phases, namely intelligence, design, choice and implementation. These phases are the basis for decision making, which ends with a recommendation.The Preferences Selection Index (PSI) method is a rarely used decision support system method. This method is a method developed by stevanie and Bhatt (2010) to solve the Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM). With the right consideration, this method can be one of the tools to determine policies in decision-making systems, especially the selection of outstanding teachers. This chapter aims at identifying the main determinants of earnings and at estimating the private returns to education in Tunisia. The private rate of return to schooling is relatively low by international standards, especially for basic education. It is argued that in addition to the limited capacity of the economy to create high-productivity jobs, institutional factors may explain the low and heterogeneous returns to education in Tunisia. The returns to schooling are found to increase with the level of education. Regional disparities in earnings and returns to higher education may be explained by the lack of economic opportunities and low exposure to market forces in many inland regions, and also by differentiated early-life conditions as well as inequality of opportunity in access to quality education. These results are used to suggest directions to strengthen the role of public policies in reducing inequality of opportunities in both schooling and earnings.
