The study sought to raise the perception of trainees about teaching in the basic education school, based on the experiences developed in the pre-service. The data collection instruments involved questionnaires with 18 interns who participated in the practicum course 1 of the Physical Education degree course at a public university, documentary analysis of the internship reports and the course's pedagogical plan and semi-structured interviews with part of the interns. The experiences developed at internship discipline enabled the trainees: a) To recognize the welcoming of the school's teachers, as well as to identify their different formatives roles in the school; b) To understand the difficulties in the development of the teacher's work in its most varied aspects, highlighting the importance of lesson planning. c) Defining about the engagement (or not) on facing the choice of the teaching profession. Such learning was favored due to the work carried out in partnership between university and school, established as a two-way street, which allowed to promote a joint work with the university, which has been aimed a better quality in the training of teachers for basic education.

Pedagogical actions linked to school in the physical education initial training. Objective: to investigate the pedagogical actions adopted by professors of a degree in Physical Education to approach the school in the course of the classes. Methods: thirty-one students of a last year course and eighteen permanent professors from a Physical Education degree participated in the study, by a semi-structured interview. The results were treated through content analysis using the NVivo 10 qualitative analysis software. Results: the results demonstrate that professors, in general, establish relationships between content and school through discussions in the classroom university, or they promote simulated classes in which students plan and teach content for their own class in the university environment. However, it has been observed that there are few opportunities in which the approach between theory and practice is approached through meetings, visits, classes and other teaching practices in the school context of Basic Education. Conclusion:  the need to enable the future Physical Education teacher to be immersed in the reality of the school is reinforced as a way of experiencing in practice the basic and applied elements of being a teacher.

This report describes a proposal for Supervised Curricular Training (ECS) in Early Childhood Education, in the specificity of Physical Education as an integral component of this stage of Basic Education. The teaching planning and lesson plans were based on the proposal of the Experience Fields of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) articulated with the ECS Proposal for the Physical Education Degree course at the University of the State of Santa Catarina (UDESC). The objective of this report was to analyze and critically reflect the national, state and municipal curricular documents that precede BNCC, to identify and analyze the studies on Physical Education, Early Childhood Education and BNCC and to describe the collective reflections during interventions at ECS I . The guidelines present in the curriculum documents that precede the BNCCC and the content of the fields of experience, supported and supported the intervention process of the interns at the ECS of Early Childhood Education. It was concluded that it is possible to work in partnership in Early Childhood Education, based on BNCC, respecting the different rhythms, spaces and times of children and in an integrated way with the other moments of the institution during the supervised internships.

The context for the present study is the one-year initial teacher education course for postgraduates specialising in physical education at the secondary level. The research focus is on the conflicts which pre service teachers experience during the school practice element of a University- School Partnership Scheme based on the new government criteria and procedures introduced in the DFE Circular No. 9/92 for England and Wales. Fifty-three postgraduate students completed report forms about their teaching concerns at the end of each week of a six-week and an eleven-week block practice, and, of the 1510 concerns reported, 257 (17.02%) were classed as conflicts. A content analysis of the 'conflict' concerns revealed four general categories of conflict, and these were related to school staff and peers, the school and university working procedures, the demands from the school and the university, and beliefs and values about the teaching profession. The paper argues that such conflicts are viewed with much apprehension by pre-service teachers because of the additional responsibilities and powers placed on school subject mentors and the more limited time available in the university to prepare for the practical activities. Therefore, it is suggested that University-School Partnership Schemes should build in arrangements that give pre service teachers the opportunity to resolve deep-seated problems by being able to approach neutral staff from either the university or the school.

This study explores the question of how two public universities in Africa seek to improve student access, given the decline in public funding. Using resource dependence theory as a guide, qualitative approach via semi-structured interviews and documentary analysis are used to gather data to explore the study’s objective. To examine the reduction in public funding and student access, this study first examines the changes in public funding and student access at the University of the Western Cape and the University of Ghana from 2007 to 2016. This is followed by an analysis of factors that influence the changes in public funding, and their implications for student access at the two universities. The last to be explored is the actual strategies that the University of the Western Cape and the University of Ghana have employed to improve student access in the face of cutback in public funding.

Many stakeholders have attributed the decisions of education graduates who decline to enter the teaching profession after graduation, to the University of Malawi selection policy, and have called for the abolition of redirecting students to courses other than their choices. The purpose of this study was to measure the relationship between the University of Malawi selection ‘re-direction policy’ and ‘entrance of education graduates into the teaching profession’. Cross-section data were collected from the total population of education graduates from the University of Malawi, Chancellor College from 2005 to 2009 (n=760), through document analysis and structured interviews. Using the χ2 test, the calculated  χ2 (1df) was 3.265, p = 0.071 denoting that the university selection policy and entrance of education graduates into the teaching profession were independent.  The study concluded that whether education graduates entered or declined to enter the teaching profession after graduation did not depend on whether they chose or were redirected to education during their university selection.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine participants’ experiences as they transitioned from the skilled trade labor workforce to the school teaching profession. Their goal was to work in the secondary school system as certificated teachers. Design/methodology/approach – The study examined interview data from a 2014 to 2015 evaluation study of participants in the Career and Technology Studies Bridge to Teacher Certification Program in Alberta. Interview comments of 20 participants were analyzed. Findings – Participants earning a bachelor of education degree countered their skilled trade habitus with adjustment to the university habitus, with support provided though the program and strong networks among the students. Individuals demonstrated resiliency, persistence, and optimism. The findings may have significance more broadly for a re-examination of university policies and spaces for non-traditional students. Originality/value – The paper provides an insight into how a well-designed program provides opportunities for individuals to transition from the skilled trade workforce to university. Further, the paper contributes to the scholarly literature in the area of second-career teachers’ habitus, fields, and capitals.

Abstract. The initial training of Physical Education teachers has "undergone" deep changes along with educational reforms. What should remain equally relevant is that students, as future specialist teachers in this area, should be the ones who value the quality of their education. In this research, we use the tool validated by Moreno and Conte (2001), the Assessment and Training on Teaching in Physical Education (V.A.C.D.E.F.), which we applied to 39 Primary Education degree students who attend the program in Physical Education at a Center of the University of Cádiz. Among the most important findings, we emphasize that the majority of students feel well trained for carrying out the future teaching work. They agree with the contents that are imparted in their program, they are interested in the technical elements of sports and the specialty itself, as well as they strive for more practical classes within their training.

The teaching profession, being a profession that above all requires human interaction, is inseparable from ethics (Castilho, 2018). Initial teacher training is recognised by its impact in professional development of pre-service teachers, and cooperating teachers are fundamental in this stage. The ethical-professional attitude is transversal to all knowledge related to initial education. Therefore, it is important to study the perspective of cooperating teachers regarding professional ethics. This article presents case studies concerning Portuguese physical education cooperating teachers’ perspective of pre-service teachers’ professional ethics. We followed a qualitative methodology and data was collected from a semi-structured interview with 5 questions. It was interviewed 5 cooperating teachers of the master’s degree in Teaching Physical Education in the University of Coimbra. Data was analysed through thematic content analysis (Bardin, 2011) and revealed that cooperating teachers focus mainly on the personal conduct shown by pre-service teachers. These results reveal a reductionist perception of the notion of professional ethics and the association of professional ethics to personal ethics.

Background: The time allocation for physical education school-based physical activity is often replaced with other classes in an effort to increase children’s academic performance. However, a growing body of literature suggests that physical activity either had no effect on academic performance or that it enhanced it. Objective: The purpose of this report is to perform a systematic review of the evidence on the associations between physical education and school-based physical activity, and academic performance. Design: Systematic review. Methods: Studies were identified through research of the PubMed, Sportdiscus, and Web of Science databases from 2000 through 2016. The titles and abstracts were screened for eligibility, the methodological quality of the studies was rated, and data was extracted. The main exposure was physical education or school-based physical activity. For the main outcome, studies had to report at least one academic performance measure. Results: A total of 12 articles met the inclusion criteria; four of them were cross-sectional, two longitudinal, two quasi-experimental and four interventional studies. Seven articles found a positive association between physical education or school-based physical activity and academic performance, four found no association and in one there was a positive association for 3rd grade students and a negative association for 2nd grade students. Conclusion: In general, results of the review support that physical education or school-based physical activity is positively associated with academic performance in children.

Abstract: A case study is carried out on a third-year primary school student with physical disabilities from a school in Spain. This research aims to evaluate the participation of Alba in Physical Education sessions and implement strategies that favour her inclusion through the adaptation of tasks. To do this, four phases were conducted during the investigation: phase I, corresponding to a non-participative observation of four non-consecutive sessions of the Physical Education classes that the participant attended; phase II, corresponding to the semi-structured interviews, carried out interviews with the agents involved in the student´s education; phase III, corresponding to the documentary analysis of a Teaching Unit of the teacher, using the TREE model, to detect the possible barriers that the participant must face; and finally, phase IV, corresponding to a proposal to adapt the tasks of that Teaching Unit. Results show a scare participation of the student in Physical Education, because the interaction with the group is limited to the assumption of passive roles or the performance of individualized activities on many situations. There is also a clear lack of knowledge about the student's school trajectory by the agents involved, as well as a lack of communication between them and their family. Based on these results, several adaptations have been proposed to increase their participation in physical education sessions.
