The effect of Alchornea Cordifolia leaf extract on the mechanical properties of mild steel in acidic medium was studied using weight loss method. The first sample was not introduced to any medium. It served as the control1 sample. The second sample was introduced to a medium containing 0.2M Sulphuric acid solution in the absence of the Alchornea Cordifolia leaves extract for 21 days, while the third sample was immersed in a vessel containing 0.2M sulphuric2 acid and 0.5g/L of Alchornea Cordifolia leaves extract as an inhibitor for 21 days. Results obtained showed a substantial improvement on the mechanical properties of mild steel exposed to the medium with the inhibitor. The inhibition of corrosion of mild steel usingPiper nigrumL in different acid medium by weight loss method was investigated. The corrosion inhibition was studied in hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid by weight loss method at different time interval at room temperature. The result showed that the corrosion inhibition efficiency of this compound was found to vary with different time interval and different acid concentration. Also, it was found that the corrosion inhibition behavior ofPiper nigrumL is greater in sulphuric acid than hydrochloric acid. So,Piper nigrumL can be used as a good inhibitor for preventing mild steel material.

In this study, the use of green corrosion inhibitors extracted from coffee husks was investigated on mild steel materials in acidic medium. Phenolic compounds from coffee husks were extracted using acetone solvent, characterised and investigated for their corrosion inhibiting properties. The FTIR and 1H-NMR technique were carried out to characterise the present phenolic compounds extracted from purified coffee husks. The corrosion inhibition efficiency of phenolic compounds from coffee husks extract on mild steel in 1.0 M HCl was evaluated by using weight loss method. The obtained results showed that corrosion rates decreased with the increase of inhibitor concentration, temperature and immersion time. The optimum inhibition efficiency of 86.5% at 25 ºC was obtained with a concentration of 400 mg/L (400 ppm) of coffee husks extract in two hours of experiment. The observed inhibition efficiency was attributed to the physical adsorption mechanism of phenolic compounds on mild steel surface through charged ion formation from protonation of lone pairs of oxygen in phenol or ionic dissociation of carboxylic acid functional group that formed a charged layer over mild steel surface. Furthermore, it was pointed out that the adsorption process obeyed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model at all investigated temperatures between 25 and 40 ºC. The synergistic effect of halide ions such as KCl, KBr and KI on the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1 N sulphuric acid by [Formula: see text]-2,c-6-diphenyl-t-3-methyl piperdin-4-ones with semicarbazone (01[Formula: see text]SC), [Formula: see text]-2,c-6-diphenyl-N-methyl-t-3-ethyl piperdin-4-ones with semicarbazone (02[Formula: see text]SC) and 2,6-diphenyl-t-3-ethyl piperdin-4-one with semicarbazone (03[Formula: see text]SC) has been examined by weight loss method, potentiodynamic polarization measurements and electrochemical AC impedance spectroscopy. Results show that substituted [Formula: see text]-2,c-6-diphenyl piperidin-4-ones with semicarbazone act as the perfect corrosion inhibitors and their inhibition efficiency increases with the addition of halide ions. The inhibitor (01[Formula: see text]SC) shows the inhibition efficiency of 78.28% (0.2[Formula: see text]mM) by using a weight loss method. The influence of I[Formula: see text], Br[Formula: see text] and Cl[Formula: see text] anions raises the inhibition efficiency of the substituted 2,6-diphenyl piperidin-4-ones with semicarbazone due to the synergistic effect. The synergistic effect of halide ions was formed in the following order: KI [Formula: see text] KBr [Formula: see text] KCl.

The corrosion inhibition capacity of sucrose fatty esters for mild steel in 1 M HCl was studied using the weight loss method. It was shown that sucrose fatty ester inhibited corrosion process of mild steel and obeyed Langmuir isotherm. Corrosion rate and inhibition efficiency of sucrose fatty esters were found to reduce with increase of immersion time. The study presented sucrose fatty ester as a promising inhibitor of mild steel corrosion in acidic medium.

The inhibition effect of anisaldehyde on the corrosion of aluminium in sulphuric acid was investigated by weight loss method and characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analyses. The effect of different inhibitor concentrations was studied at varying temperature (308, 313 and 318 K). It was found that the percentage of inhibition efficiency (% I.E.) increases with increase of inhibitor concentration and decreases with increase in temperature. The values of activation energy and half-life were found to be higher in inhibited acid solution compared to uninhibited acid solution, while that for the rate constant reduced from uninhibited to inhibited acid solution. The negative values of Gibbs free energy of adsorption confirmed the spontaneity of the process. Other thermodynamic parameters such as enthalpy and entropy were also evaluated and discussed. The investigation of adsorption isotherm model indicates that the inhibitor fitted to Langmuir isotherm model. Result of SEM analysis shows how the inhibitor reduced the acid attack on the aluminium surface, and FTIR analysis result of the corrosion product proves the formation of thin layer of inhibitor molecules on aluminium surface.

The corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1 N sulphuric acid solution by 2,6-diphenylpiperidin-4-ones with various substituents at 3- and 3,5-positions (01–06) has been tested by weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopic methods, and FTIR and UV absorption spectra. The surface morphology of the mild steel specimen has been analyzed by SEM. The effect of temperature (300 to 323 ± 1 K) on the corrosion behavior of mild steel in the presence of the inhibitors (01–06) was studied using weight loss techniques. The effect of anions (Cl−, Br−, and I−) on the corrosion behavior of mild steel in the presence of the same inhibitors was also studied by weight loss method and the synergism parameters were calculated. The adsorption characteristics of the inhibitors have been determined from the results.
