In the traditional civil engineering industry, only abstract theoretical concepts are applied to express complex realistic contents, but this method of information transmission is sometimes very limited for engineering participants, because its expression is not comprehensive and specific and also makes the recipients have difficulty in understanding its information. The rise and development of virtual reality (VR) technology has become a good assistant to overcome this difficulty, providing an extremely effective means for displaying and simulating civil engineering project in real time. This paper introduced the methods and principles of VR platform system and structure dynamic analysis, conducted virtual scene design and three-dimensional modeling of civil engineering project, analyzed the synthetic debugging and simulation roaming of the virtual environment, proposed the engineering model of virtual construction process and planning structure calculation, discussed the realization method of virtual project management and visualization, and finally performed the simulation and its result analysis of panoramic display and planning of civil engineering project based on VR technology. The results show that the VR technology can simulate various environments and activities of civil engineering projects in advance, analyze the rationality of various schemes, and modify their different functional parameters, so it can achieve the simulation optimization of project planning, design, and construction.

Macquarie Dictionary define ‘Risk’ as the chance of an adverse event depending on the circumstances. In the field of engineering, the risk is often described as a specific unwanted event and including the consequences or loss. Usually residual risk from civil engineering project would lead to serious effects. The control of residual risk is an important subject in modern civil engineering management research. In this paper, a residual risk controlling methods will be present. Firstly, the definition and other mentioned concepts will be introduced. It includes the definition of residual risk and other concepts of risk that are often confused. Next, basic ways of dealing risk will be mentioned.

In order to improve the effectiveness of performance evaluation of civil engineering project procurement, according to the characteristics of civil engineering project procurement management, the procurement performance evaluation method is established based on the fuzzy mathematics theory. Taking a civil engineering project procurement as an example, the implementation effect of the procurement performance evaluation of the civil engineering project is evaluated. The evaluation results are basically consistent with the actual situation, which verifies the effectiveness and reliability of the method. It provides an effective and reference solution for the practical application of procurement performance evaluation in other civil engineering projects.

Construction projects are usually associated with several challenges owing to the varying process during the project lifetime. Hence, the final cost of any civil engineering project is influenced by many factors. There are numerous ways of determining the final cost of a project, however, the most essential approach is the Estimate at Completion (EAC) technique. This technique is mostly favored because it considers the probability of risks and project performance. Furthermore, EAC helps project managers in the definition and determination of the critical problems expected during the project period and the likely solutions toward these problems. In this review research, the basic empirical, regression and advanced soft computing methodologies adopted for the EAC computation, were surveyed and reported in detail. The review established on the base to recognize the modern advancement of the soft computing in computing the EAC with accurate, reliable and robust manner. The review was highlighted the main literature limitation, current status and possible future direction.

Setting cost, time and quality targets for civil engineering project is motivated by the need to have an instrument that would dictate and control activities of the contractor towards delivery of product that meets client’s expectations. This study, which examines the relationship between cost, time and quality performance of civil engineering project, is premised on the importance of showing whether cost, time and quality performance of civil engineering project demonstrates different correlation patterns on one part or exhibit different significance relative to contractor prequalification criteria on the other part. It uses questionnaire to obtain the needed data and analysis achieved through spearman’s rank correlation and regression methods. It establishes the nature of the cohesion between these three parameters. Consequently, both strong and weak positive relationship exists between contractor prequalification criteria and cost, time and quality performance of civil engineering project at p?1%. In spite of this, interconnectivity between these three variables is demonstrated by contractor prequalification criteria. Cohesion also exists between cost, time and quality performance of civil engineering project at p?5%. Therefore, criteria for contractor prequalification firmly bind cost, time and quality performance of civil engineering project. Also, the firmness of cost time and quality performance of civil engineering project depends of contractor prequalification criteria. Hence, client and representatives should take the cohesiveness of cost, time and quality performance into consideration when determining the choice of contractor prequalification criteria for civil engineering project.
