Mineral mining and processing Industry of Vietnam is facing a number of huge challenges at present, but there are also great opportunities for its growth in the future. Mineral processing plants need to make breakthrough improvements in the process designing, technology and equipment utilisation in order to meet requirements of the new era. These challenges force our miners and mineral processing operators to constantly make efforts in researches and to bring best solutions to improve plant operations to ensure the requirements of safety, market demands, product quality, sustainable development and environmental friendliness. Specifically, the issues that need to be addressed urgently are capacity and quality of the workforce, tailings treatment, fine particle processing, ores of low washability, recovery rate increase and maximisation of recoverable valuable minerals, environmental issues and workplace safety monitoring and control, maximasation of production efficiency and reduction of operating costs. This report presents the current key challenges of the mining and mineral processing industry in order to help professionals and policy makers in the field of mineral mining and processing to bring rational directions for action initiate appropriate studies and improve management methods; to help mineral processing plants in improving the production efficiency and recovery of valuable minerals; to reduce operating costs and to become environmentally friendly and to develop sustainably.

Abstract Water generated from the fish processing industry is contaminated with organic matter. This organic matter present in wastewater increases the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD). A new technology, hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) is used to deal with this wastewater produced in fish processing plants. The orifice plate is used in the HC reactor to generate a cavitation effect. The intensification of this technique was carried out with the help of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and TiO2. The treatment of this wastewater is reported in terms of percent degradation in BOD and COD and in biodegradability index (BI). Operating parameters like inlet pressure, pH, operating temperature and H2O2 doses were used to find the optimum condition. 15 g/L of H2O2 gave 69.5% reduction of COD in the 120 min of treatment that also increases BI value to 0.93 at inlet pressure 8 bar, Plate-5, temperature (30 °C), and pH 4. In the ultrasonic cavitation (UC) reactor, COD reduction is 68.7% without TiO2 and with TiO2 it is 71.2%. Also, this HC and UC reactor reduced CFU count to a great extent at the same operating conditions.

This paper analyzes the performance of the Hungarian meat processing industry in the wake of the global financial crisis. Between 2011 and 2013 many high-capacity meat processors went bankrupt in Hungary. Possible reasons for that could be unfavorable market situation and inefficiency in production. In this paper, the latter hypothesis is examined. Two different types of production function estimation techniques are used to calculate firm-specific inefficiency estimates. Based on the estimation results, the lower bound of average firm-level efficiency is 0.50, while the upper bound is 0.88. Estimated firm-level inefficiencies are compared to the characteristics of the given firms. Pre-tax profit, company size and domestic ownership are associated with lesser inefficiency. On the other hand, time trend of inefficiencies indicate that the global financial crisis negatively affected the production efficiency of the meat processors. This can be a reason behind the bankruptcies happened. Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) codes: C33, L66

In this paper, the pretreatment approaches in the textile processing industry are discussed and two case studies which have been carried out in two textile processing plants are delineated. Case studies include the phases of process and pollution profiles, treatability study, conceptual design and evaluation of one-year actual treatment plant performances. One of the treatment schemes applied was chemical coagulation while the other was activated sludge. Therefore a comparison of two main types of pretreatment has been realised. Results indicate that biological treatment is more efficient and reliable in terms of organic matter removal as compared to chemical coagulation. Comparisons of cost of initial investment, cost and ease of operation, and sludge production are also made and discussed.

The aim of this study was to determine the potential presence of the airborne Listeria spp. and its correlation with the aerobic mesophilic bacteria and Listeria carcass contamination in three red meat slaughtering and three processing plants. Airborne L. seeligeri and L. innocua were determined using 8 (5.06%, n = 158) air samples taken on the locations characteristic for aerosol generating and in a chilly environment. The positive airborne samples of Listeria spp. were in an insignificant (P > 0.05) relation with the highest airborne bacteria counts. On the carcass, only 1 positive case (0.69%, n = 144) of L. innocua was determined, presumably owing to the low airborne Listeria counts and its unpredictable settling rates. In addition, insignificant (P > 0.05) influences of air moisture and airflow on the airborne Listeria were found. Nevertheles, the methods currently used to determine the airborne Listeria and its relationships to aerosol viable mesophilic bacteria and carcass contamination need to be reconsidered in future investigations.
