- The simple trade-off between incentive and risk, which is crucial to the agency problem, is not a sufficient explanation for the ineffectiveness of a specific output-related pay such as the contract system adopted in the US iron and steel industry during the second half of the nineteenth-century. The high rate of technological innovation along with workers' extensive bargaining power made output-related pay a sub-optimal solution. This stylised fact unveils the conflicting nature of piece-rate pay compared to fixed pay as new technology is introduced and stimulates an analysis of the interaction between technological change, bargaining powers, and payment systems which can be conducive to a better understanding of the agency problem and the use of incentive pay. Key words: Incentive Contracts, Inside Contracting, Unions, Technological Change. JEL Classification: J33, J51, N31, O33

The low cost Q460 and Q550 steel plates were produced in the 4200mm wide and heavy plate mill using Normal Hot Rolling and High Rate Cooling (NHR+HRC) process. The effect of both rolling processes on microstructure and mechanical property was studied. The results indicate that new type process can realize the good match between microstructure and mechanical properties. Meanwhile the new technology can short rolling time, reduce alloying addition, and improve the output of mill, it is also promote iron and steel industry developing continuously.

In recent years, the steel industry is in decline. To reduce environmental pollution, increase corporate profits and promote the sustainable development of China's steel industry, developing steel metallurgical slags comprehensive utilization has a very important significance. This article describe the present situation and problems in China's steel metallurgy slag comprehensive utilization, and reach the conclusion that the present method should be improved and the new method of comprehensive utilization should be further developed.

This paper is devoted to the memory of Professor Ljubomir Nedeljkovic (1933-2020), Head of the Department of Iron and Steel Metallurgy University of Belgrade, Serbia. Assessment of the melt quality is one of the most important casting process parameters, which allowed sound production of intricated cast parts. At the present time, various devices have been applied at foundry floors to control melt quality. Thermal analysis is one of them, widely used for melt quality control in ferrous and non-ferrous casting plants. During solidification, metal and alloys released latent heat, which magnitude is dependent on the type of phases that form during the solidification process. Plotting temperature versus time data during solidification provides useful information related to the actual solidification process. The applied technique is called thermal analysis, whereas the cooling curve is the name of such a plot. The main aim of this paper is to give a short overview of the present thermal analysis application in various foundries and to indicate the future potential use of this technique.

By using scrap miscellaneouszinc materialas raw materials, a new technology with the help of two distillationsby fire method to produce zinc oxide was invented. The scrap miscellaneous zinc materialshave complex sources, containing dust, stone, iron and steel parts and other impurities, and zinc content is more than 15% over a wide range. The presence of zinc is in the form of pure metallic state, alloy state and oxidation state.Distillation process has two steps, the primary for removing the principal impurities and the second for zinc oxide purification. With less investment, low cost, simple equipment, easy operation, environmental protection and other advantages, this method is fit for production of high-purity zinc oxide and can also be used for the production of nanoscale high purity zinc oxide.

Continuing education is a means of promoting technological development in an enterprise. In the past ten years, Wuhan Iron and Steel Company (WISCO) has achieved significant success in this field. From 1986 to 1990, WISCO ran 573 seminars and classes for advanced studies. Participating specialized staff totalled 18 302. In that period, 127 research projects produced successful results, and 85 of them led to instant economic benefits amounting to 38.46 million Yuan. Li Yunzu describes WISCO's approach to continuing education. He stresses the importance of focusing continuing education programmes on the economic development of the enterprise. Full consideration should be given to seminars and advanced courses on special topics, the development of new technology and improving the quality of employees. It is also necessary to establish a pattern of continuing education that integrates education, research and production.

The phase characteristics of calcite "limestone"-marble from Banjany area village (near Skopje, Macedonia) were examined by means of XRD, SEM microscope in polarizing and reflected lights, chemical, DT/TG-analyses. It was concluded as follows: - calcite (CaCO3) is a major mineral component (cca 80-90 %) prevailing in the marble over the other minerals - dolomite is generally of minor importance (cca 10-20 %) in the rock - quartz, micas graphite, pyrite represent typical accessories. As result of the mentioned phase characteristics, this raw materials was for a long time (more than 30 years) used as flux in the iron and steel metallurgy in Macedonia.
