Abstract Objectives Conduct a histological comparison of the pulp response to different materials, with a focus on the continuity and morphology of the mineralized barrier after direct pulp capping. Materials and Methods One hundred and eight maxillary first molars of 54 Wistar rats were subject to direct pulp capping and divided into three groups according to the materials used: calcium hydroxide (CH), mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), and Biodentine. All cavities were sealed, and the animals were euthanized at 7, 14, and 21 days. Descriptive histological evaluation of the inflammation and formation of the mineralized barrier was performed. Statistical Analysis Statistical analyses were performed using the Kruskal–Wallis test, which was complemented by the Dunn test; differences with p < 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results The results showed that MTA and Biodentine elicited less intense inflammatory reactions than CH. With respect to the formation and quality of the dentin barrier formed, differences were observed at 21 days between the analyzed groups; the best results being obtained following treatment with MTA and Biodentine. Conclusion MTA and Biodentine induced formation of a more continuous and uniform mineralized barrier with less intense pulp response than CH.

Introduction/Objective. Development of materials which could be used as biological bone substitutes is one of the most valuable and active fields of biomaterial research. The goal of the study was to research the reaction of tissue on calcium silicate- (CS) and hydroxyapatitebased (CS-HA) newly synthesized nanomaterials, after being implanted into the subcutaneous tissue of a rats and direct pulp capping of rabbit teeth. Methods. The tested materials were implanted in 40 Wistar male rats, sacrificed after seven, 15, 30, and 60 days. The direct pulp capping was performed on the teeth of rabbits. Cavities were prepared on the vestibular surface of the incisors. The animals were sacrificed after 10 and 15 days. The control material was mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA). Histological analysis covered the tracking of inflammatory reaction cellular components, presence of gigantic cells, and necrosis of the tissue. Results. Seven days after the implantation, the strongest inflammatory response was given by the MTA (3.3 ?} 0.48), while CS and CS-HA scored 3 ? 0.71. After 60 days, the rate of inflammatory reactions dropped, which was the least visible with CS-HA (0.2 ? 0.45). The least visible inflammatory reaction of the rabbits? pulp tissue was spotted with the CS (1.83 ? 0.75), than with the MTA and CS-HA (2.67 ? 1.53, 3 ? 0.63). Conclusion. The newly synthesized materials caused a slight reaction of the subcutaneous tissue. CS-HA showed the best tissue tolerance. Nanostructural biomaterials caused a slight to moderate inflammatory reaction of the rabbits? pulp tissue only in the immediate vicinity of the implanted material.

Background : Perforation in normal pulp could be happened anytime. In sterile condition, direct pulp capping was the right therapy to maintain the vitality and pulp function. Direct pulp capping agent must contact with the pulp tissue. Generally, body had an immunologic respond with foreign body that contact with tissue. The respond could be inflammatory reaction. The used direct pulp capping agents were calcium hydroxide, and Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) which known as better agent but relatively expensive and difficult to obtain. So that, the alternative of MTA, Portland cement which was the same essential of MTA, was being developed. The aim of this study, to analized inflammatory reaction of the pulp tissue with direct pulpcapping agents calcium hydroxide, MTA, and Portland cement. Methods: Free caries M. Nemestrina’s posterior teeth were prepared to formpin point perforations on buccal surface of the crowns. The teeth were appliedwith one of the three capping agents. Teeth were filled and extracted. Theextracted teeth were proceed into histopatological preparation slides to evaluatethe inflammatic reaction. Results: The result showed no statistically significant differences of pulp inflammatory reaction between calcium hydroxide, MTA and Portland cement in7, 14, 42, and 90 days. Conclusion: The inflammatory reaction of pulp tissue of the three pulp cappingagent (calcium hydroxide, MTA, and PC) were insignificant different.
