Collects of the Roman Missals : A Comparative Study of the Sundays in Proper Seasons before and after the Second Vatican Council

This paper will show the dynamics of change in the celebration of the parish patron’s day at the turn of several decades (before and after the Second Vatican Council) at a Marian shrine in Poland and the cult of Cross from Monjardin in Spain. It will refer to various forms of ritual which are manifestations of popular piety: cultural expressions, services, prayers and songs which form part of the veneration of Our Lady of Sorrows, Chełmno and the Cross in Villamayor de Monjardin. The article will also examine the different ways in which these feasts were celebrated during the period and the impact they had on the religious life of pilgrims. The study will be based on written sources: memories, diaries, newspaper clippings, and historical studies which are instrumental in demonstrating the transformation of how the parish patron’s day was celebrated over time.

Two Sides

The Jesuits were important actors in the Catholic Church in the 1960s when changes in Catholicism occurred before and after the Second Vatican Council (1962–1965). The members of the Society of Jesus were active participants in movements calling for the “inculturation” of Christianity and the “liberation theology” coming from the Third World, two sides of the same process of globalization of Catholicism. It is from this time onward that the center of gravity moved away from Rome to South America, Asia, and Africa. The Jesuits also participated in the transition from a triumphant church to a church based on service to the poor. This is the social, cultural, and theological background in which the future pope Francis, the first Jesuit pope, spent the early years of his ecclesiastical career.

The development of each Church is denoted by one or another landmark, most of which are well-known to all, although there are also few known or those whose influence on the evolution of the Church is not evident. The Second Vatican Council is an event that, without exaggeration, can be a determinant of the time "before" and "after", not only for the Catholic Church, where it took place. Since this Cathedral was a significant stage of qualitative development, or not the oldest continuously existing institution, the consequences of its decisions, including the consequences of the remote, are interesting to study, in particular, from the point of view of their influence on further institutionalization processes in the Church. This is an interesting field of research for many religious scholars, but in this exploration we are currently focusing on the specifics of the course of institutionalization processes in the modern Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church as a special part of the post-assembly Catholic Church, as one that inherited the advantages and problems of the Christian East , and the Christian West.
