In Ayurveda, a wide variety of neuroprotective herbal plants have been reported. Brahmi, Bacopa monnieri, belonging to the family Scrophulariaceae, is one of the foremost nootropic and neuroprotective Ayurvedic herb known from ancient times. It is used in the traditional medicinal system to treat various brain related health problems and as a memory enhancer. In the modern era, it is generally used to upgrade memory, learning and to treat tension, depression and other major problems like cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal, hepatic, neurological and respiratory problems. There are vast reported studies on the Alzheimer's disease also, Brahmi is known to have anticancer, antidiabetic, mitigating, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Bacopa plants contain various phytochemicals which include alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides and saponins. Other important constituents present in this plant are bacosides, bacopasides, and bacopa saponins, which are responsible for its therapeutic properties.

Bacopa monnieri L. (Scrophulariaceae), synoname is Herpestis monniera that provides bioactive compounds, especially triterpenoid saponins (Bacosides) which exhibits an important biological activities, like hypothyroidism, anticonvulsant, memory enhancing and antistress. Because there are no researches about B. monnieri L. plant that grow in Iraq, and there active compounds especially triterpenoid saponin (TS), and there effects. This study was detected the presence of (TS) in, and examined the cytotoxic and the antioxidant activity of these compounds in vitro. The study was included the extraction and identification of TS from the whole parts of B. monnieri L. by using three methods, and the best yield was analyzed by High Performance Liquid Chromatographic (HPLC) to identify bacosides compounds. In vitro, TS was examined the cytotoxic activity against two cancer cell lines, human cervical cancer (Hela), rhabdomyo sarcoma (RD), and rat embryogenic fibroblast (REF) as a normal cell, at concentrations of 62.5, 125, 250, 500 and 1000 ?g/ml at 24, 48, and 72-hr. Free radical 1,1Dyphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) was used for testing the ability of the TS as antioxidant at 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 ?g/ml concentrations. The results revealed that B. monnieri plant had many components of bacosides when detected by HPLC. Cytotoxic study suggested that TS inhibited the growth of cancer cells, and this effect is depending on the extraction of TS concentration. The effect of TS on Hela cell line was more than that for RD, while the highest effect of TS on Hela was at the concentration of 250 ?g/ml after 48 hr. The cytotoxic effect has a significant effect at (P?0.05). The results revealed that TS has high antioxidant influence 99.37% at 100 ?g/ml concentrations, followed by 98.20% in 80 ?g/ml concentration.

Bacopa monnieri, Family: Plantaginaceae, known as water hyssop, herb of grace or Indian penny wort, is one of the traditional medicinal plants in Ayurveda medicine, where it is also called Brahmi, a name derived from Brahma, the creator God of the Hindu Pantheon. It is now being widely promoted to enhance memory, learning and concentration and also to treat anxiety, depression, and systemic disorders like cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, hepatic, neurological and also respiratory problems. Further, Brahmi has been shown to possess anticancer, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Its phytochemical substances are alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, saponins, and the important constituents such as bacosides, bacopasides, and bacopasaponins, which all of these contribute to its remedial properties. This article provides a brief overview of the memory boosting activity of brahmi, (B. monnieri), to further provide an upto-date review showing its importance especially, memory boosting.

Vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizae (VAM) play a crucial role in enhancing the growth of plant by increasing the uptake of nutrients from soil and also is known to enhance the secondary metabolites of plants. The response of VAM Glomus fasciculatum Glomus mosseae and on the growth, phytochemical constituents and antioxidant properties of commonly known a Bacopa monnieri s Brahmi was carried out. was treated with both pure cultures individually and mixe B.monnieri d culture in (1:1) ratio along with uninoculated sample as control and gown in polyhouse condition for varying intervals. The physiological parameters, phytochemical analysis and antioxidant scavenging activities were analysed after 30, 60 and 90 days of VAM inoculation, respectively. Colonization of VAM was seen in the plant samples signifying the symbiotic association. Physiological analysis showed an increase in shoot, root and wet weight of with B. monnieri increase in time The preliminary phytochemical analysis inferred the methanol . ic leaf extracts of treated with B.monnieri Gf, Gm and Gf+Gmcontained alkaloids, avonoids, saponins, tannins, glycosides, terpenoids and carbohydrates which increased quantitatively with time.DPPH free radical scavenging activity showed escalation in result with increase in time of treatment with showinghigher G. fasciculatum scavenging activity compared to and the mixed cultures
