A six-year-old, male Yorkshire terrier was presented with acute vomiting, anorexia, depression, watery diarrhea and sudden blindness. On the basis of a transabdominal ultrasonographic examination, the presence of a prominent aortic aneurysm was established. The aneurysm of the aorta was confirmed at post-mortem examination. Unexpectedly, a pheochromocytoma of the left adrenal gland was found to be involved with the aneurysm. In this case report, the unusual occurrence of a large, unruptured abdominal aortic aneurism (AAA) concurrent with a pheochromocytoma in a male Yorkshire terrier dog is discussed.

SummaryThree clinical cases of dogs with Pearsonema plica infection were detected in the western part of Slovakia. All cases were detected within five months. Infections were confirmed after positive findings of capillarid eggs in the urine sediment in following breeds. The eight years old Jack Russell Terrier, one year old Italian Greyhound, and eleven years old Yorkshire terrier were examined and treated. In one case, the infection was found accidentally in clinically healthy dog. Two other patients had nonspecific clinical signs such as apathy, inappetence, vomiting, polydipsia and frequent urination. This paper describes three individual cases, including the case history, clinical signs, examinations, and therapies. All data were obtained by attending veterinarian as well as by dog owners.

SummaryAn inflammatory periorbital cyst with secondary pressure atrophy of the maxilla was treated by surgical creation of a drainage opening to the nasal cavity in a 4-year-old Yorkshire Terrier. Following treatment, clinical signs resolved and computed tomography 5 weeks after surgery confirmed the permanence of the drainage opening. Eight months later, the dog showed no clinical abnormalities. Therefore, the procedure described in this report may offer a suitable treatment option in cases where the cyst’s size or localization prevents complete excision.

Objective This article aimed to compare measurements of anatomical angles of the femurs, based on radiography, in Yorkshire Terriers without or with various grades of medial patellar luxation (MPL) based on radiography. Methods The skeletally mature Yorkshire Terrier dogs without MPL and with various grades of MPL were included in this prospective study. Cases with other orthopaedic disorders were excluded. For inclusion of the dog, it was required that standardized digital radiographs of both femurs in craniocaudal and axial directions were available. Measurements of the anatomical lateral proximal femoral angle, anatomical lateral distal femoral angle, femoral varus angle, anteversion angle and femoral inclination angle were performed. Results Forty-two Yorkshire Terriers (84 hindlimbs) were included in the study. They were divided into five groups according to grade of MPL as healthy (n = 12), grade I (n = 9), grade II (n = 44), grade III (n = 10) and grade IV (n = 9) dogs. The anatomical lateral proximal femoral angle and anteversion angle were significantly lower in dogs with grade IV MPL, while anatomical lateral distal femoral angle and femoral varus angle were significantly higher. The femoral inclination angle values did not differ significantly. Clinical Significance Yorkshire Terriers affected with grade IV MPL had severe femoral deformities or femoral varus and external rotation of the distal femur. Reference range can be used as an aid in diagnosis, determining indications and surgical planning for corrective osteotomy.

A 2-year-old Yorkshire Terrier was presented with haematuria and dysuria. On the ultrasonography, an irregularly shaped, cystic, intraluminal urinary bladder mass was identified at the left ureterovesical junction. The computed tomographic excretory urography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a pouch-like cystic mass arising from the distal ureter embedded at the ureterovesical junction. The distal portion of the mass prolapsed into the proximal urethra and obstructed the urethral lumen. The multimodal imaging findings were consistent with a prolapsed ureterocele and were further confirmed with surgery and histopathology. After surgical removal of the mass, the clinical signs clearly improved. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of multimodal imaging characteristics and the outcome of a prolapsed ureterocele in a dog.

SummaryA seven month old female Yorkshire Terrier was admitted with severe contracture and scarring of the ventral abdomen, thorax and limbs, after a scald injury. Surgical management consisted of multiple releasing and reconstruction skin flaps. Keratinocytes, harvested from a 1 cm2 full thickness skin biopsy, were cultured on a lawn of irradiated feeder cells, and used as a cultured epithelial autograft on the remaining skin deficits. Epithelialisation of the deficits was complete at the first dressing change, five days after application. This is the first report of successful culture of canine keratinocytes suitable for use in skin reconstruction in a clinical case.
