In this work, we present a general framework for design and risk assessment of hydraulic structures for water control. The framework relies on a “structure-based approach”, accounting for both the statistical behavior of the hydrological load acting on the river system and the hydraulic response of the structure to the environmental load. This approach allows for the reduction of a multivariate and complex statistical problem to a univariate one, focusing on the damage. The framework is applied to an offline detention basin for flood mitigation based on a general, yet simplified routing model. Furthermore, a real-world case study application is presented, with the specific aim of discussing the role of the design parameters and their effect on the probability distribution of damage. Results show the robustness and the effectiveness of the approach for applications to real cases and provide design guidance for practitioners.

Enterprises (business organisations) are increasingly operating under uncertain conditions arising from: governments that introduce new regulations; a market place which is shaped by ongoing change in customer requirements; change in capital markets that orient overall market directions; an advancing base of technology; and increasing competition which can arise from a growing number of sources (Monfared, 2000). Consequently, organisations are expected to change rapidly in response to emerging requirements. Classical theories and more recently ‘method-based’ organisation (re)design and change approaches have been proposed and tried with varying degrees of successes. This chapter contribution discusses the role of enterprise and simulation modelling in support of organisation (re)design and change. The capabilities and constraints of some widely acknowledged public domain enterprise modelling frameworks and methods are reviewed. A modelling approach which integrates the use of enterprise modelling (EM), causal loop modelling (CLM), and simulation modelling (SM) is described. The approach enables the generation of coherent and semantically rich models of organisations. The integrated modelling approach has been applied and tested in a number of manufacturing enterprises (MEs) and one case study application is described.

This case requires you to consider the complexities of auditing in terms of a realistic client-auditor interaction involving difficult accounting issues. The case is loosely based on an actual situation that occurred between an audit firm and its client. In the case you will assume the role of either the auditor or the client as you attempt to resolve inventory and accounts receivable valuation issues for which there are no “clear-cut” solutions. This case includes three sections. First, you will read an article containing an auditor-independence risk framework to help you understand how client-auditor interactions relate to auditor independence risk. Second, you will develop alternative solutions to the inventory and accounts receivable valuation issues in your respective auditor or client group. Third, you will interact with another group assuming the opposite role and you will resolve the valuation issues in some way. By completing the case, you will learn about client-auditor relationship/interaction issues, client-auditor economic incentives, and auditor independence risk issues.

This article describes some parameters that should be taken into consideration during designing English for Specific Purposes course for combined major programme 6B015002 ‘Chemistry and Biology’ at Suleyman Demirel University. English for Specific Purposes courses focus on specific field or discipline, such as engineering, law, management, marketing, accounting, medicine or science in our case. English for Specific Purpose teaching requires real life learning situations which might be achieved with the help of appropriate course that is designed after considering parameters that detect whether the course should be intensive or extensive, assessed or non-assessed, common-core or specific, homogeneous or heterogeneous, fixed or flexible, or deal with immediate or delayed needs and finally identify the role of English for Specific Purposes teachers. After studying all parameters of course design listed above everything is put in a nutshell as a result of the case study of English for Specific Purposes course on chemistry-biology specialty at Suleyman Demirel University.

We believe that the preschool period is key to encouraging the development of all existing potentials in children, and proper detection and multiple stimulation can develop more intensively and express the child’s talent best in the preschool development period. The crucial role in this is played by the family, but also by the educational institutions in which children spend a large part of their time. Therefore, the role of the pedagogue as a professional associate in the educational institution for the proper detection of gifted children, and the design, guidance and interpretation of ways and effects of working with them is very important. The topic of this professional paper is the recognition of giftedness in kindergarten, a look at pedagogical practice and ways of working with potentially gifted children in some preschool institutions in the Sarajevo Canton. The paper briefly presents the theoretical framework, necessary for understanding the topic and the concept of giftedness, as well as other related concepts and definitions. In order to determine how to identify gifted children in one of the kindergartens in the Sarajevo Canton, a potentially gifted four-year-old V.Z. was identified and monitored. from Sarajevo through a case study.

Law No. 6 of 2014 on Villages, provides an important position for the village to play its role in development. The important role of the village is the local authority possessed by the village in managing its household. Urgency of the implementation of village authority in village development main flow lies in the ability of village financial management. The form of self-reliance of village management among others is the application of the principle of the principle as set forth in the regulation, as regulated in Permendagri 113 of 2014. This study aims to identify and analyze the application of the principles of village financial management, including; Principles of Transparency, Principles of Accountability, Principles of Participation, Orderly Principles and Budgetary Discipline. The type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative and case study, application of village management principle in certain village. Locations in Jatiroto Village Jatiroto District Lumajang District with participants from the Village Head, Village Secretary, Village Treasurer, Implementation Team, Village Assistant, BPD and Community Leaders The results show the implementation of Jatiroto village financial management as follows; (1) The application of the principle of transparency has generally been implemented, although it needs to be optimized with media enrichment. (2) Accountability of village financial management is quite good, but there are some things that need to be strengthened, and improve management performance. (3) The management of village finances in Jatiroto village is quite participatory, some of the things that demonstrate this principle is the involvement of the community in the process of running activities, although it still needs to be improved, (4) The application of orderly principles and budgetary discipline, is basically already underway in every stage of village financial management that is run, some obstacles due to technical problems, such as facilities, competencies, and workload
