Abstract This article contrasts hostility toward visual and literary art in English radical Puritanism before the late seventeenth century with the central role of art for Dutch Mennonites, many involved in the commercial prosperity of Amsterdam. Both 1620s Mennonites and 1650s–1660s Quakers debated the relationship between literal truth of the Bible and claims for the power of a personally felt Holy Spirit. This was the intra-Mennonite “Two-Word Dispute,” and for Quakers an opportunity to attack Puritans who argued that the Bible was literally the Word of God, not the “light within.” Mennonites like Jan Theunisz and Quakers like Samuel Fisher made extensive use of learning, festive subversion and poetry. Texts from the earlier dispute were republished in order to traduce the Quakers when they came to Amsterdam in the 1650s and discovered openness to conversation but not conversion.

The beauty and usefulness of a literary piece lie basically on the author’s diction. The expression, ‘literary art’ stems from the fact that literary artists are able to create interesting works of art by proper manipulation of language(s) that among other things entertain and educate their reading audience. For young minds, literature is not only didactic; it also boosts their language acquisition. In recognition of the crucial roles played by literature, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board recommended an appreciable number of textbooks for the study of literature in English. These books run from 2010-2011, 2011-2012, 2012-2013 academic sessions. The thrust of this study is to ascertain the grammatical level of the language of some of these texts, particularly the genres of prose and drama. Error analyses of three texts namely: Decree of the gods, Wishful Bliss and That’s My Girl randomly selected from basic 7-9 were carried out. Concord incongruity, omission/superfluous use of articles and misuse/omission of pronouns were specifically sought for. A simple survey design was adopted for the study and the errors were collated, analyzed and classified based on their types-syntactic, morphological, and concord errors. The study reveals that the texts are replete with concord errors, misuse of articles, omission and improper application of prepositions in structures. The implication of the findings in the teaching and learning of English is discussed and suggestions for improvement made.Key words: Literary art(ist), Language acquisition, Grammatical level, Error analysis, Concord incongruity, Articles and Pronouns

Art is subversive when it crosses the boundary of the generally acceptable, though over time such art can and does become mainstream. A much more complicated question is what is subversive in aesthetics? Ecocriticism has already become, along with ecofeminism and animal studies, an academic discipline. It can be defined as subversive if it is understood in terms of an attitude, which is not anthropocentric. And here is the catch: how can the human also encompass the alien? The question that emerges here is all but rhetorical: how can we decentre and amplify our human consciousness and perspective to include zoocentric, biocentric or geocentric positions? At this point the contemporary theory creates contrasting opinions, which cross the boundaries of aesthetics, poetics and ecocriticism since they reach out to the fields of metaphysics and antimetaphysics. Within the phenomenon of perception the other always appears, as Deleuze said in his Logic of Sense, as “a priori Other”. We have to deal, henceforth, with a kind of pre-reflexive level of consciousness and amplified sensory perception, which, as we know, is the basic condition of artistic creation. Thus, this paper – because it seeks to penetrate into the node of these questions – takes literary art as its starting point. In the spirit of the above-mentioned observations, I have attempted to investigate in ‘minority literature’ (female authors of contemporary Polish and Slovene literature) how this decentred attitude, which Jure Detela, a Slovene poet, poetically defined, corresponds to our thesis on a particular ecocritical stream, which can be defined as an ecofeminist aesthetics. ABSTRACTIn fact, the cultural relationships between different groups are not something specific to contemporary society, but the globalized world is the place where cultural communities relate in a more intense and complex way. The dynamics of globalization approach groups of different cultures causing tensions and resistances. In the Arts, this phenomenon is represented in different ways. In Literature - in this case addressed to youth - understood as a cultural and symbolic production, there are various practices of meaning, which are responsible to build ways of seeing, being and living. These practices point out the perception of plural identities. Artists, with the construction of their aesthetic and political projects, can refuse hegemonic discourses, fighting against prejudice, disrespect, exclusion, denying the ideology based on dominant values. The main purpose of this study is to analyze, in the new perspectives of Comparative Studies, the role of literary art and their intercultural dialogues.RESUMOApesar de os entrecruzamentos culturais não serem algo específico da sociedade contemporânea, é neste mundo globalizado que as comunidades culturais se relacionam de maneira mais intensa e complexa. A dinâmica da globalização cada vez mais aproxima grupos de culturas diferentes, provocando tensões, negociações e resistências. No campo das artes, esse fenômeno cultural é representado de diferentes formas. Na literatura - neste caso a que se destina à juventude - compreendida como produção cultural e simbólica transformadora, agenciam-se práticas de significação, ou seja, formas de construir modos de ver, de ser e de estar no mundo que favorecem a percepção das identidades múltiplas. Pela elaboração de seus projetos - estético e político -, os artistas põem em revista os discursos hegemônicos, marcados muitas vezes pelo preconceito, pelo desrespeito, pela exclusão, desnudando relações de poder, classificações e rotulações instituídas a partir de uma ideologia forjada a partir de valores dominantes. O objetivo deste estudo é analisar, dentro das novas perspectivas dos Estudos Comparados, o papel da arte literária em seus diálogos interculturais.
