We report on a 28-year-old woman who developed deep cerebral vein thrombosis (CVT) associated with iron deficiency anemia (IDA). Activation of platelet function by IDA may lead to CVT and sometimes results in death when a deep central vein is affected. While IDA is a common condition, especially among young women, proper management of IDA is needed to prevent severe venous thrombosis.

Abstract Background The presentation of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) in association with iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is rare. Case presentation This case report depicts the unusual case of a 31-year-old woman of mixed Jamaican and English heritage with IIH who presented initially as IDA in the context of menorrhagia. Subsequent ophthalmic review, lumbar puncture, cerebrospinal fluid analysis and neuroimaging studies revealed severe bilateral optic disc swelling and raised intracranial pressure in keeping with IIH. Prompt treatment of IDA with blood transfusion and orally administered iron supplements, in addition to medical treatment for IIH, contributed to significant improvement of symptoms and prevented long-term visual deficits. Conclusion The possibility of IDA, albeit rare, should always be considered and investigated appropriately in all patients with IIH, as the treatment of the anemia alone may be sight-saving.

Background: Iron deficiency anemia is one of the nutritional problems that still occur in Indonesia which is common in young women. Early nutrition education is needed to prevent these problems. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of the android-based educational media "Aneminfo" on the knowledge and attitudes of young women regarding iron deficiency anemia. Method: This research was conducted with a quasi-experimental design with a pre-post control group design with a sample of 37 people for each group taken from 2 vocational schools in the city of Semarang. The intervention was carried out using educational media in the form of the “Aneminfo” android application. Changes in knowledge and attitudes between before and after the intervention were measured using a validated questionnaire and tested using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: The results showed a significant increase in knowledge in the intervention group (p = 0.001), and there was a significant increase in attitude in the intervention group (p = 0.011) compared to the control group. The conclusion of this study is the Aneminfo android application can be an alternative media for the government and health workers in providing education about iron deficiency anemia to increase adolescent knowledge and prevent anemia from an early age.

Purpose To raise awareness of the importance of prompt and appropriate imaging in patients presenting with signs and symptoms suggestive of idiopathic intracranial hypertension. Methods Case report with diagnostic tests and discussion of management options. Results A 15-year-old girl presenting with bilateral optic disc swelling was noted to have extensive thrombosis of intracerebral venous sinuses with the clot extending along the internal jugular vein as inferior as the root of the neck demonstrable on magnetic resonance venography. Conclusions Ophthalmologists should be vigilant in obtaining appropriate imaging in cases of optic disc swelling.
