Among the relevant for the modern pharmacy problems, there is a need for the rational complex use of known medicinal plants, as well as the search for new sources of natural biologically active compounds in order to expand the list of official medicinal plants and raw material base. Species of genus Geum L. contain a number of biological active substances and are promising sources of raw materials for the production of antimicrobial, astringent, anti-inflammatory, and hemostatic medicines. Pharmacological activity of these plants results from their multi-component chemical composition, including tannins, flavonoids, macro- and microelements and other compounds. The aim of thе study was to compare the elemental composition of herb and rhizomes with roots of G. urbanum L., G. aleppicum Jacq. and G. rivale L. of Ukrainian flora. The objects of the study were the samples of herb and rhizome with roots of G. urbanum L., G. aleppicum Jacq. and G. rivale L. (dried raw materials) which were collected in the Kharkiv region, Ruski Tishki village, in June-August 2018–2019. The determination of the qualitative composition and quantitative content of elements was carried out by atomic absorption spectroscopy with atomization in an air-acetylene flame using a spectrometer CAS 120 («Selmi», Sumy, Ukraine). In the studied samples, 19 elements were determined, including 5 macroelements and 14 microelements. The data about accumulation of elements in investigated herb of G. urbanum L., G. aleppicum Jacq., G. rivale L. can be arranged in descending order as follows: K > Ca > Si > Mg > P > Fe > Al > Na > Sr > Zn, and in rhizomes with roots as follows – K > Si > Ca > Mg > Fe > P > Al > Na > Sr > Zn. The content of toxic elements such as cobalt, cadmium, arsenic, and mercury was within the permissible limits for plant raw materials and food. For the first time, a comparative study of the macro- and microelement composition in herb and rhizomes with roots of G. urbanum L., G. aleppicum Jacq. and G. rivale L. has been carried out. Using the method of atomic absorption spectral analysis, 19 elements have been identified and their content has been determined, among which К, Ca, Mg, Si, P, Fe, Al, Na, Mn, Zn predominantly accumulate.

This study examined the use of plants in Uzunköprü and surrounding villages in the years 2013–2015 during the flowering and fruiting season of the studied plants (March–October). Interviews were carried out face-to-face with members of the community. Fifty-seven people in 55 villages were interviewed. Overall, medicinal plants from 96 taxa belonging to 45 families were recorded. Traditional medicinal plants were used to treat 80 diseases and ailments such as diabetes, cold, flu, cough, stomachache, and hemorrhoids. According to the results, the largest eight families are Rosaceae, Lamiaceae, Asteraceae, Poaceae, Ranunculaceae, Malvaceae, Cucurbitaceae, and Brassicaceae. The most commonly used species were <em>Anthemis cretica</em> subsp. <em>tenuiloba</em>, <em>Cotinus coggyria</em>, <em>Datura stramonium</em>, <em>Ecballium elaterium</em>, <em>Hypericum perforatum</em>, <em>Prunus spinosa</em>, <em>Pyrus elaeagnifolia</em> subsp. <em>bulgarica</em>, <em>Rosa canina</em>, <em>Sambucus ebulus</em>, <em>Tribulus terestris</em>, <em>Urtica dioica</em>. The herbarium numbers, Latin and local names, families, village numbers, parts used, usage forms, and uses were listed alphabetically in a table. In this study, 219 local names were identified.

Water-propylene glycol extracts of medicinal plants are widely used as active components in therapeutic and cosmetic products for external use. However, sparse data on the extracting efficiency of water-propylene glycol mixtures and chemical composition of water-propylene glycol extracts of plant raw materials are available in the scientific literature. Usually the manufacturer documentation also provides information about characteristics of the products that are not related to their biological activity. The results of HPLC/MS/MS study of Matricaria chamomilla L. flowers have shown that water-propylene glycol and water-ethanol extracts are similar in the composition of phenolic compounds: the dominant compounds of water-propylene glycol extract of Matricaria chamomilla L. flowers are apigenin and its glycosides (apigenin-7-glucoside, apigenin-7-O-6-O-malonyl-D-glycoside, apigenin-7-acetylglycoside, acetyl-malonyl-apigenin-7-O-glycoside), as well as 5,4’-dioxy-3,6,7,3’-tetramethoxyflavone, cis- and trans-forms of 2-O-glucopyranoside 2-hydroxy-4-methoxycoric acid, 7-methoxycumarin. Spectral and analytical characteristics in the UV-visible range of the spectra of water-propylene glycol extracts of a number of medicinal plants most often used in the cosmetic industry were studied to reveal extracts with the highest protective properties against UV radiation in A and B areas (extracts of Salvia officinalis L. leaves, Matricaria chamomilla L. flowers, Achillea millefolium L. grass), free radicals (extracts of Camellia sinensis L. leaves, Hypericum perforatum L. herb), and the highest content of flavonoids (extracts of Hypericum perforatum L. herb, leaves of Salvia officinalis L.) were revealed. When extracting raw materials from the same batch, the optical density at a wavelength of 270 nm is associated with the content of flavonoids, antioxidants and dry matter by a functional relationship, which is very convenient for rapid control of extraction processes in order to obtain a product with reproducible characteristics. Formulas for calculating the content of antioxidants in extracts using the DPPH method in comparison with standard samples of rutin and gallic acid are derived. Interpretation of data on the antioxidant content in different extracts in comparison with other analytical parameters are also presented. Demonstrated high repeatability of the shape of the spectral curves of Matricaria chamomilla L. flowers extract, observed regardless of the source of raw materials can be used in combination with the individuality of the curve shape of the extracts of raw materials of different types as one of the authenticity criteria. The proposed UV-spectrometric method was used to study the dynamics of Matricaria chamomilla L. flower extraction under different process parameters (temperature, propylene glycol/water ratio in the extractant). It is shown that extraction of raw materials with 50% water-propylene glycol for 4 h at a temperature of 50°C is optimal.

An evaluation of elemental composition in medicinal plant is important because mineral contents may be the source of a pharmacological effect. Four elements (Na, K, Mg and Zn) were analysed in wild and cultivated medicinal plants such as Andrographis paniculata, Vitex negundo and Solanum surattense. The present study revealed the presence of minerals such as Na, K, Mg and Zn in all the studied medicinal plants grown in both wild and domestic condition. The presence of those elements indicates the medicinal value of the studied plants. The results show that the cultivated medicinal plants contain more concentration of all the four investigated elements when compared to medicinal plants collected from wild area.

Purpose: This study aimed to document the present status of medicinal plants used to boost the immunity to combat Coronavirus. Materials and Methods: For the assessment and use of herbs during the Covid 19 pandemic, surveys were conducted in different villages of  Seraj block. The surveys were conducted during the spread of the pandemic from 2020 to 2021. Local people were interviewed and information on the utilization of local herbs during this pandemic was recorded. Information on parts used, the procedure of use, habit, habitat, etc. was also collected. Results: A total of 58 species of medicinal plants from 27 families and 42 genera were documented. Among them, the most dominant family was Rosaceae.  Most of the plants such as Morchella sp, Naustratium officinale,Taraxacum officinale ,Urtica dioica ,Allium sp,Withania foraminifera, Curcuma longa, Cannabis, Mentha, Ocimum sanctum are rich in antioxidants and have a wide range of medicinal values used to treat cough, cold, fever, and bronchitis. All these plants were used traditionally to boost immunity. Due to the covid -19 pandemic, the utilization of these herbal plants has increased many folds in the area. These medicinal plants should be made available to scientists to design clinical trials. Integration of this concept would certainly develop drug therapy in the near future. Conclusion: The study found that the use of medicinal plants has increased during COVID-19 and most of the respondents recommended medicinal plants to prevent COVID-19 and to boost immunity. More studies should be conducted to develop certain formulations.
