Short-term (26 weeks) Tg.rasH2 mouse carcinogenicity studies have been conducted as an alternative model to the conventional 2-year mouse carcinogenicity studies, using urethane as a positive control material. In these studies, urethane was used at a dose of 1,000 mg/kg/dose, administered intraperitoneally on days 1, 3, and 5. Urethane consistently produces lung adenomas and carcinomas and hemangiosarcomas of the spleen, proving validity of the assay. We conducted 3 pilot studies at 3 different sites of Charles River Laboratories using a lower dose of urethane (500 mg/kg/dose), administered on days 1, 3, and 5, followed by a 12-week observation period. Our results demonstrate that a lower dose can be used successfully with fewer number of animals per sex to prove the validity of the assay. However, based on our cumulative experience with this model, we propose to eliminate positive control dose groups in future Tg.rasH2 carcinogenicity studies.

Sr-doped lanthanum manganite (La1-xSrxMnO3) is characteristic of thermochromic, which can act as a smart thermal control material used in the variable-emittance devices. In the present study, La1-xSrxMnO3 thin films were prepared on MgO(100) substrates by pulsed laser deposition, and the effect of Sr-doping (x = 0 ~ 0.4) on the structure and infrared emissivity was investigated. Single-phased La1-xSrxMnO3 films with (100)-orientation were obtained, which showed a dense texture with smooth surface. The ratio of Mn4+/Mn3+ in the films was increased with increasing Sr doping, leading to the enhancement in double-exchange interaction and electrical conductivity. As a result, the phase transition from metal to insulator was observed with the increasing of test temperature. For the La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 thin film, a large value of emittance (De = 0.28) was obtained, indicating good variable-emittance by appropriate Sr doping.

For most of the newly built nuclear power plants, the computerized main control rooms (MCR) are adopted. The soft control, the typical feature of computerized Human-Interface System (HIS) in the computerized main control room and mediated by software rather than by direct physical connections, is comprised of safety and non-safety control interface which provides the operators with manual control for component-level, and allows both continuous control of plant process and discrete control of components in nuclear power plant. The safety soft control and information system (SSCIS) is used to give the safety commands to and check the immediate response of the safety process. This paper describes the application of the system design basis, functionality, communication, operation faceplate and system modes for SSCIS which is firstly introduced in CPR1000 nuclear power plant. The design criteria and basic design features of SSCIS is developed to be as the design basis of the design implementation. The ISG-04 ‘Highly-Integrated Control Rooms-Communications issues (HICRc)’ provides acceptable methods for addressing SSCIS communications in digital I&C system design. The NUREG0700 ‘Human-System Interface Design Review Guidelines’ is applied as reference for human factor engineering requirement in the SSCIS design. And the SSCIS design has also fully considered the possible customer usual practice.
